Despite being a start-up set up only in May 2009, AcSiP's Wi-Fi modules received validation from MediaTek in July last year, allowing the company to enter into the component supply chain of MediaTek platform-based handsets, the sources noted.
AcSiP's Wi-Fi modules have since then found their ways into more than 100 handset makers in China, mostly the gray market handset vendors, the sources indicated.
Although current Wi-Fi module shipments to the gray market account for 60-70% of AcSiP's total shipments, the ratio of shipments to China-based branded handset vendors will increase substantially in 2010, stated AcSip president HT Chen.
