South Africa was Not Ready Organizes World Cup 2010

Monday, June 14, 2010

High rates of crime and theft cases to teams participating in 2010 World Cup began to worry. They also seemed to start not believing in the local police in maintaining security of personal items when abandoned when practicing or competing. Some teams began to hire private security to keep all their personal equipment. It continues to oversee security duty room of players, coaches, and officials. Thus, the team can quietly do the exercise or compete for their room will be guarded 24 hours.

Previously, cases of theft are the teams to make the World Cup participants are worried and anxious. Chamber of Greece World Cup team has entered a thief, and money from the three players missing. Soon, the thieves also entered the room Uruguay World Cup team and tackle money of 12,000 dollars. Greece and Uruguay, the team had reported to the police. However, they apparently did not get a satisfactory answer. In fact, the police even accuse their own people in the Uruguay team that conduct theft.

Now the World Cup teams in 2010 have now hired private security. This is imitating a lot of South African citizens hired private security because it is more satisfactory service and trustworthy. Security firm hired by several team claimed the World Cup in 2010. They were asked to keep an eye on 2010 World Cup team room so that no thief crashed. Officers Spy Shop, Dave Miller, said it also hired a team from Europe to oversee the 35 rooms of players and coaches.

This shows that public confidence to the international and domestic South African security forces is down. For, indeed very strange if the team room participants can take in World Cup skeleton because they always get rations superketat security. Security seems to continue to be a problem in South Africa. In fact, now the steward had already started the boycott and strike. It happened in Cape Town during the match Italy vs Paraguay.

This 2010 World Cup left a lot of problems, where South Africa is poor countries that are simply not ready for this big event, and many of the visitors who come to South Africa to suffer losses due to theft and robbery.

Developer's dream: Androids...in space!

Danny Pier wants to send a smartphone into space. An Android smartphone.

Why? Well, because. Also, he is concerned that U.S. space exploration might not be progressing apace. His parents and grandparents got to witness an astronaut land on the moon, while Pier, 25, worries that he will have to wait until 2035 to see a man step on an extraterrestrial surface (Mars, according to plans laid out by President Obama).

So while Piers waits for middle age, he wants to try shipping the first smartphone into the stratosphere as a symbol of his belief in the importance of the space race. Preferably, that phone will be his HTC Evo 4.

"Great phone," he says. "I think it's meant for something greater."

The phone would be attached to a helium-filled weather balloon, which should, if all goes according to plan, burst at its maximum altitude and be easily recovered via location information logged by the phone and sent Earth-ward. The handset would also take pictures and video.

The end goal of the "Astdroid Project," Pier says, is "to have a stable Android application that has been proven to aid in getting a smartphone high into the atmosphere, taking pictures and video along the way, and subsequently retrieved."

Pier--a Denver software engineer who created the browser extension TwitterEyes--is currently seeking financial backers to help pay for Astdroid Project materials, with different contribution levels yielding various rewards.

For a pledge of $5, for example, your name will show up online and in the Astdroid application. And so on, up to $150, which also nets you an 8x10 photo taken from an Astdroid flight, the Astroid app, plus a weather balloon, recovery parachute, and other materials needed (excluding helium) to replicate the smartphone-in-space project if you are so inclined. Who knows? Maybe he will even follow NASA's lead and send your mug into space along with the smartphone.

Pier says he will blog the project as it progresses, as well as share video, and, if possible, use UStream for live launches, and maybe even live video from the craft itself. And yes, phones may be harmed in the making of this project.

Rumor: New OTA Going Out to Nexus One

A few sources are reporting that a new OTA update is starting to roll out to Nexus One owners. From what we can tell, the report orginates with Sizzled Core, who include the screenshot seen here. The build number, FRF72, indicates a Froyo build subsequent to FRF50, the pre-release Froyo build that was OTA'd to a small number of Nexus Ones recently.

The OTA is reportedly only 1.8 Mb, and so would presumably be an incremental update to those who already received FRF50. Sizzled Core reports that the changelog mentions only updates to the browser, including better Flash support.

The skeptical folks at XDA-developers note that this screenshot could be faked fairly easily, but also point out a Google employee who tweeted about receiving a Froyo update today.

What do you think? Real or not? Presumably we'll know more soon.

Update: We've not seen reports of Nexus One owners receiving this update since this post went up, leading us to conclude that either this rumor is entirely false, or that FRF72 is an internal QA build not being distributed OTA.

Update 2: We've seen several Google employees make reference to getting a Nexus One Froyo update, in some cases even referencing FRF72 as the build number. Looks like this is a real build going out OTA but only internally to Google employees for now.

Confirmed: HTC Legend launching on Bell June 16th

We’ve been covering the HTC Legend for sometime – this is coming to both Bell and Virgin. Thanks to our Bell tipsters who let us know the official launch date has been set for June 16th.

In the internal document that we received it states that “The HTC Legend is one of the most anticipated Android smartphones. From a hardware perspective, its form factor has captured the attention and praises of the press with its sleek aluminium unibody design, vibrant 3.2” AMOLED capacitive touchscreen and brushed metallic finish. The design is certainly one-of-a-kind, conveys a confident message of class and feels expensive yet solid in your hands… The user also benefits from the same features offered to any other Android users out there. Legend comes with Android 2.1 out-of-the-box, the latest and greatest version of Google’s mobile platform with a range of updates including a revamped Android Market, improved virtual keyboard, support for more apps from the Market and more”

In addition, it looks like Bell is targeting this device to go head-to-head with the Rogers Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 and the Telus HTC Hero. They have broken down the specs and features and compared it to each device. Pricing is set to be $79.95 on a 3-year contract, $249.95 on a 2-year; $349.95 on a 1-year and $399.95 no contract.

Chinese Version of Nokia E71 – a Fake Without Nokia Logo On It

Mobile-review have posted a review of a Chinese Nokia E71 clone. Here is a video and their final impression.

The sound quality is below average and in the busy street you may not hear the interlocutor. It can be helped with the software to change the standard sound settings. The ringtone sound is loud enough, there are no creaks or squeaks, but at times you cannot hear the tune well due to the location of the speaker. The vibro is weak and you can miss it when the phone is in the pocket. The connection quality is typical of modern phones. There are no problems here.

At large we have an interesting model: tough body, good build and nice materials. I think that in future the Chinese manufacturers will be able to put fonts on keypads better and the quality benchmark will be higher. Current tendency shows that similar phones will improve and the quality will catch up.

This model will attract attention of young people, who use social networks a lot, send Twitter or ICQ messages. You can proudly take it out from the pocket in front of your friends, but do not show them what is inside. It offers good value for money and you cannot find any other phone on the market with such a price tag to target young adults.

Social Handset Maker INQ Bets on Android & Multitouch

Frank Meehan, chief executive officer of London-based social handset maker INQ Mobile, said at our Mobilize 09 conference last fall that his company would adopt Android as its main platform. Yesterday, Meehan told GigaOM that it will launch the first of its phones based on Google’s OS, a multitouch device, sometime in the fourth quarter.

“We are going all-Android and touch,” said Meehan. The shift will be yet another blow to Qualcomm’s BREW OS, the underpinning of current INQ devices. But INQ, which was spun out of 3 of the UK after it launched a Skype phone that used its 3G network, will continue to focus on developing devices that revolve around popular, fast-growing Internet applications. And the connections of Chinese billionaire Li Ka-Shing, the sole backer of INQ, will continue to help the company gain traction in China.

INQ in recent months launched a socially aware, Facebook- and Twitter-friendly QWERTY phone, the INQ Chat 3G, of which Meehan told us it’s sold more than 1.5 million units. He expects a big sales spurt soon as his phone company’s handsets are made available in new markets. INQ’s big markets currently include UK, Italy and India.

The Pivot

The shift to Android and touch devices is part of bigger pivot being made by the company. While Meehan declined to give any details, INQ clearly sees a bigger opportunity in selling pricier devices, two in particular.

The first is in retail. While INQ started out making handsets that were “budget” and carried low margins, it spent lavishly to build its brand, which is actually more premium than the products it offered. But in order to get traction in the retail channel, it needs to keep its salespeople happy. Low-end margins bring marginal commissions, which in turn offer little incentive to your salespeople to push your phones. From that perspective, it makes sense for INQ to pursue a different strategy.

Secondly, the world of mobile phones is in a massive flux. Thanks to the introduction of Apple’s iPhone and Google’s Android, the whole mobile industry has been up-ended — and some of the traditional handset makers such as Sony Ericsson and Nokia have been having a tough time. Instead of traditional feature phones, the market is likely to move towards the smartphone form factor. Which offers a golden opportunity for new entrants to establish a presence.

HTC, for example, is going after the high end of the Android smartphone market. INQ is focus on the market segment just below HTC, in the process taking on Sony Ericsson, LG and Samsung. Does it sound crazy? I don’t think so. INQ has an important thing in common with Apple and Google (via HTC): It’s a software company that does hardware – — specifically hardware that revolves around web services.

Nokia 5330 Mobile TV Edition review: As seen on TV

Gsmarena have posted a review of the Nokia 5330 Mobile TV Edition. Here are the phone's key features, main disadvantages and their final impression.

Key features:
* Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE support
* Tri-band 3G
* 2.4" 16M-color QVGA display with excellent sunlight legibility
* 3 megapixel enhanced fixed-focus camera with LED flash
* QVGA video recording at 15fps
* DVB-H TV receiver
* Series 40 UI, 6th edition
* Stereo FM radio with RDS, Visual radio
* Bluetooth (with A2DP)
* Standard microUSB port (charging)
* microSD card slot (16 GB supported, 1GB included)
* 3.5mm audio jack
* Dedicated touch-sensitive music keys
* Great audio output quality
* Maps for S40 preinstalled

Main disadvantages:
* No WLAN
* No HSDPA
* No GPS receiver
* S40 is feature-wise outdated, though visually updated
* No preinstalled document viewer
* No smart dialing
* Below par video recording capabilities
* Poor build quality

The Nokia 5330 Mobile TV edition is a device that’s hard to recommend. Sure it looks pretty sleek at first but turns into a greasy scratched mess so quickly that you won’t have enough time to enjoy it.

It does bring a feature to the mid-range that we have only met once before but the problem is that DVB-H streaming TV is still only available to a very small audience. Even if you’re among the lucky ones, we aren’t particularly sure if watching a limited number of TV channels on such a small screen is enough to warrant spending the extra money on this device, especially given its limited feature set.

Even if you aren’t into touch-driven phones (where Nokia offers some great bang for your buck), there are still plenty of better alternatives than the Nokia 5330 Mobile TV edition. Let’s list a few.

The Sony Ericsson C903 might be a bit dated but it comes with a Cyber-shot camera, packs a more advanced user interface and costs less than the Nokia 5330 Mobile TV.

If your budget is fixed anyway the Sony Ericsson Hazel will even throw in GPS, Wi-Fi, splash-resistance and a bigger screen on top of that for the same kind of cash as the Nokia 5330. It’s hard to beat that.

We couldn't help but notice that in-house competition looks even more threatening. The Nokia 6700 classic is a definite contender despite its age. We actually feel it has the upper hand and if having a smartphone isn't a necessity, it represents great value for money.

Elsewhere from within Nokia’s own stables, the 6700 slider and the bar-shaped Nokia C5 will give you smartphone capabilities, a better build and the choice between GPS and Wi-Fi. And with Nokia smartphones a built-in GPS equals free lifetime voice-guided navigation with Ovi Maps so the offer is definitely worth a look.

To finish up, we would say that if you happen to be among the lucky ones with DVB-H broadcasting in your area and you are a real TV addict you might consider the Nokia 5330 TV edition. After all it’s not that expensive and if it allows you to enjoy one of your favorite pastimes on the go it definitely sounds like a deal.

However if you don’t have DVB-H where you live, or you do not plan to use it, then avoid this handset. It’s overpriced, badly built and packs a user interface that no longer cuts it against the competition. Sure the battery life and the decent screen might have some value but it’s peanuts compared to what similar-priced non-TV devices can offer.

Broadway 'Goes Green' With Energy-Efficient Washers and Dryers From LG Electronics

As Premier Sponsor of The Official Talent Gift Lounge Backstage at The Tony Awards(R) LG Electronics Donates 45 Laundry Pairs to Broadway Theaters.

Stars Support Broadway Green Alliance By 'Airing Their Dirty Laundry' with LG.

NEW YORK -- Home appliance leader LG Electronics USA, with assistance from stars from the stage and screen, including Tony Award winners Scarlett Johansson and Viola Davis, as well as Helen Mirren, Sean Hayes, Nathan Lane, Raquel Welch, Kristen Chenoweth and the band Green Day helped make the Great White Way "green" last night at the 64th Annual Tony Awards®.

As the premier sponsor of The Official Talent Gift Lounge backstage at The Tony Awards produced by On 3 Productions, LG pledged to donate an ultra energy efficient washer and dryer to a Broadway theater in the name of each visitor to the Lounge. In cooperation with Broadway Green Alliance (BGA), LG will outfit all 45 Broadway theaters with new laundry pairs, among the most energy efficient washers on the market, to drastically reduce energy and water usage for years to come.

Over the past two years, BGA members have implemented a host of greener practices including major recycling programs, switching to more eco-friendly cleaning products and converting marquee and outside lighting to more efficient LED or CFL bulbs. The BGA also has encouraged facilities to switch to more efficient appliances.

On average, a Broadway theater does six loads or 54 pounds of laundry each day. By replacing traditional top-loaders with LG's new energy-efficient models, it is estimated that the theaters can save 146,000 Kilowatt hours of electricity and 1.5 million gallons of water annually, for a total savings of $23,000 a year. According to the BGA, that's enough to light all of the marquees on Broadway for three months.

"When you think of Broadway, you probably don't think of laundry. But the reality is that the theater community generates thousands of pounds of laundry a week, which results in a huge expenditure of water and energy," said Susan Sampliner, co-chair, Broadway Green Alliance. "By partnering with LG to replace theaters' older laundry pairs with new ultra efficient washers and dryers, we will be able to drastically reduce our energy and water consumption."

Stars who stopped by the Gift Lounge not only helped LG assist Broadway in going green, but also "aired their dirty laundry." Celebrities, including Antonio Banderas, Melanie Griffith, Mark Sanchez, Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Ricky Martin, Matthew Morrison, Paula Abdul, Chris Noth and David Hyde Pierce, autographed a t-shirt made of recycled bottles and shared their juiciest secret or best tidbit of Hollywood gossip.

The shirts, featured phrases such as "Whose dirty laundry would you want to wash?" Paula Abdul answered Simon Cowell, and Laura Bell Bundy thought Jesse James' needed the most laundering. Members of Green Day revealed that Tre Cool has the dirtiest laundry in the band, while Justin Bartha said Zach Galifianakis took the title on the set of "The Hangover."

"LG enthusiastically supports the Broadway Green Alliance and their efforts to make the country's most famous theaters more eco-friendly," said Peter Reiner, senior vice president, marketing, LG Electronics USA. "By outfitting dozens of venues with our ultra-efficient washers and dryers, we are helping to transform Broadway into something greener and something better."

LG's Direct Drive washer features innovative 6Motion™ technology that allows the drum to tailor each load with a combination of motions including rolling, stepping, swinging, scrubbing, filtration and tumbling. 6Motion technology allows for advanced washing options like ColdWash™, which uses cold water and enhanced motions to penetrate deep into fabrics, providing consumers with the cleaning performance of warm water, though using up to 51 percent less energy. Like all LG washers, the new models are Energy-Star rated and use up to 40 percent less water than conventional top-load machines.

SAFECode Releases First Industry-Developed Guidance on Software Integrity Controls

New Report Outlines Assurance-Based Approach to Securing the Software Supply Chain.

ARLINGTON, Va. -- The Software Assurance Forum for Excellence in Code (SAFECode), a non-profit organization exclusively dedicated to increasing trust in information and communications technology products and services through the advancement of effective software assurance methods, today released "An Overview of Software Integrity Controls: An Assurance-Based Approach to Minimizing Risks in the Software Supply Chain." The new report provides actionable recommendations for minimizing the risk of vulnerabilities being inserted into a software product during its sourcing, development and distribution. The paper was jointly developed by SAFECode's members, which include Adobe Systems Incorporated, EMC Corporation, Juniper Networks, Inc., Microsoft Corp., Nokia, SAP AG and Symantec Corp., and is based upon an analysis of the real-world actions these companies take to secure their supply chain processes.

"Software assurance is most commonly discussed in terms of security engineering, or in other words, building security into the software as it is being developed. However, another important aspect of assurance is securing the supply chain processes for software sourcing, development and distribution to protect the integrity of delivered software," said Paul Kurtz, executive director of SAFECode. "SAFECode's latest paper addresses this emerging area of assurance and represents the first industry-led effort to identify and analyze the software integrity controls used by software vendors to protect software from the insertion of vulnerabilities as it moves along the global supply chain."

The software integrity controls identified in the paper are used by major software vendors to address the risk that insecure processes, or a motivated attacker, could undermine the security of a software product as it moves through the links in the global supply chain. The controls aim to preserve the quality of securely developed code by securing the processes used to source, develop, deliver and sustain software. The controls identified in the report cover issues ranging from contractual relationships with suppliers, to securing source code repositories, to helping customers confirm the software they receive is not counterfeit. The work builds upon SAFECode's previously released "Software Supply Chain Integrity Framework," which defines a taxonomy for describing supply chain security in the context of software assurance.

"By basing our analysis on the actual practices and controls being used by SAFECode members today, we were able to identify software integrity controls that are not only effective, but also practical, repeatable and verifiable," said Gunter Bitz, Head of Product Security Governance at SAP and a key contributor to the report. "We believe that broad industry adoption of software integrity controls can greatly improve customer confidence in IT systems. To help achieve this goal, SAFECode encourages other producers and distributors of software to tailor and adopt these controls into their own supply chain processes, as well as continue future study and analysis on additional methods to improve software integrity."

The paper also identifies areas that SAFECode believes deserve future industry-led collaboration and study. The ideas proposed include improved supplier management and communications along the supply chain, additional research on software testing, and the development of effective strategies for software assurance measurement. To continue the discussion, SAFECode encourages public comment on this paper and will consider feedback collected for future projects. To comment, please visit www.safecode.org.

"An Overview of Software Integrity Controls: An Assurance-Based Approach to Minimizing Risks in the Software Supply Chain" is available for free download at www.safecode.org.

Somers Point, New Jersey, Residents Benefit From Verizon Wireless’ 3G Network Expansion

New Cell Site Added to Keep Residents Connected to Text, E-mail, Music and Mobile Web
• Company Continues to Invest in Unmatched 3G Coverage in Region
• Improves coverage and capacity along Route 9 in Somers Point
• Provides access to high-speed wireless broadband service
• More than $1.3 billion invested in Philadelphia Tri-State Region since 2000

SOMERS POINT, NJ — Wireless calling, text messaging and surfing the Mobile Web on the Verizon Wireless high-speed 3G network will be easier and faster for residents and visitors in Atlantic County, thanks to the activation of a new cell site in Somers Point. The new site increases coverage and capacity along Route 9 and Route 152.

With the improved network coverage, customers can use their wireless devices to send and receive e-mail and text, picture and video messages; view high-quality videos; and access VZ Navigator®'s turn-by-turn directions, while enjoying clearer reception and fewer dropped calls. The Verizon Wireless network also is built for reliability during emergencies, such as power outages and extreme weather conditions, with redundancy capabilities in place to maintain service for customers when they need it the most.

These network enhancements are part of Verizon Wireless' aggressive multi-billion dollar network investment each year to stay ahead of the growing demand for the company's voice and data services. Verizon Wireless invested more than $163 million to enhance services and coverage across central, northeastern and southeastern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey and Delaware during 2009. The network investment is part of more than $1.3 billion invested in the region and more than $59 billion invested across the nation since the company was formed in 2000.

Verizon Wireless has the largest and most reliable 3G network coverage area in the United States. It’s 3G data network provides its customers in more locations than any other wireless carrier the ability to browse the web faster with quicker page loading times, quickly download and play music, watch streaming video, send e-mails with attachments, download and play 3D games, video conference with contacts and rapidly share files. View a map of Verizon Wireless’ 3G coverage, compared with competitors’ 3G coverage here.

"We've always believed even the most advanced cell phone is only as good as the network it runs on," said Mario Turco, president of Verizon Wireless’ Philadelphia Tri-State Region. "Our 3G high-speed Mobile Broadband network is the largest and most reliable in the United States, and field tests are underway that will enable us to become the first wireless company to offer commercial LTE (Long Term Evolution)-based 4G service in the U.S., starting in 2010."

Demand for Verizon Wireless services continued during the first quarter of 2010 when the company reported a total of nearly 93 million customers. The company also recently earned recognition from J.D. Power and Associates for “Highest Call Quality Performance among Wireless Cell Phone Users in the Mid-Atlantic.”*

Nationally, Verizon Wireless' real-life test men and test women drive 100 specially-equipped vehicles nearly one million miles each year on the country's most frequently traveled roadways to confirm that voice calls and data connections are successful on the first attempt and stay connected. Vehicles are equipped with computers that automatically make more than 3.5 million voice call attempts and more than 19 million data tests annually on Verizon Wireless' network and the networks of other carriers.

AT&T Announces 'Ease'-Y to Use Quick Messaging Phone from Pantech

New Pantech "Ease" is First Quick Messaging Phone Designed Specifically for Simplicity Seekers.

For experienced mobile phone users, the ins and outs of wireless devices are second nature, but for some, ease-of-use is paramount. AT&T* today announced the Pantech Ease, the first quick messaging phone from AT&T with menus and features designed for users who seek simplicity in their wireless device. With a large and comfortable touchscreen, Ease will be available for new and existing AT&T customers online at www.wireless.att.com and in AT&T stores nationwide June 20.

Ease is the latest offering in AT&T’s focused initiative to deliver a streamlined mobile experience. The handset is also the first simplicity-centric phone to feature a full keypad and touchscreen to keep customers better connected with family and friends. With the original Pantech Breeze having launched in 2008, the Pantech Breeze II in May 2010 and now Ease, AT&T is committed to customers who want the latest technology in a convenient form.

“Ease emphasizes our commitment to meeting the needs of all AT&T customers,” said Jeff Bradley, senior vice president, Devices, AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets. “The first quick messaging phone targeted for simplicity seekers, it fulfills our goal to create a highly functional device for everyone – from children to great-grandparents.”

Ease’s uncluttered design contributes to its straightforward user experience. Ease offers a bright 3.2” full touch screen display, a full keyboard, intuitive menus – all at an affordable price. And, while it is easy to use, Ease is not just a basic phone. The handset can also be switched from Easy mode to Advanced mode for a more traditional quick messaging user experience with a quick settings change. Customers of all types may enjoy the Easy mode, especially seniors.

“The seniors market remains a significant opportunity for the operators to expand their businesses. But as iGR’s research has found, the challenge is to provide a solution that meets the specific needs of the seniors with sufficient functions and capabilities yet is easy to use and intuitive, " said Iain Gillott, president of iGR, a market research consultancy focused on the wireless and mobile industry. "Our research has shown that seniors primarily want to make calls, to send and receive photos in text messages, to get driving directions and to read their email. And they want an attractive design that would make their family members envious - the Pantech Ease, with an easy-to-use interface developed collaboratively by AT&T and Pantech and attractive yet senior-friendly form factor, seems to address those needs squarely. ”

Ease will be compatible with AT&T’s High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) 7.2 Mbps technology. This technology provides a considerable boost to the nation’s fastest 3G network when combined with expanded backhaul.

”AT&T customers have come to rely on Pantech’s ability to create phones that meet their unique lifestyle needs,” said Jim Berridge, vice president of sales and marketing, Pantech Wireless. “Ease is a phone that incorporates the latest customer requests – a touch screen – yet does so in a manner which is easy to use. We have a winner with Ease and we’re confident that customers will be impressed with both the design and functionality of this handset.”

Ease takes into account user experience design principles to ensure an easy-to-use experience.

* Streamlined, Targeted Menu – Navigating the phone’s features is straightforward with the Easy Mode, which minimizes scrolling and highlights the features customers want to access most.
* Large Font – Ease uses a highly visible large font. Additionally, users can increase or minimize the font of received messages with either touch or physical zoom in or out keys.
* Easy-to-Use Buttons – Well spaced, backlit buttons on the device respond with a tactile click when pressed, and remain illuminated while in use. Specialized buttons such as the Quick Contact key provide easy access to top 3 contacts and voicemail and the “Say A Command” key allows a user to make a call, start a text or open an application with their voice.
* Camera – Activated from the home screen menu or with the dedicated camera key on the side of the phone, the 2-megapixel camera with 7x zoom can quickly switch between picture taking and video recording, allowing users to capture life’s moments as they happen and share them easily with family and friends.
* Specialized Tools – The Ease comes with a number of specialized apps to make the users’ life easier. Users can track their steps and see up to a seven-day history with Pedometer. Readout mode audibly announces callers, text message senders and reads out text message text and Voice Mode allows users to dictate a message instead of typing it.

In Easy Mode, the Ease also boasts quick access to:

* AT&T Mobile Browser – combines full HTML browsing with unique customization features so customers can easily surf the Internet; view location-aware local news and weather; and read the latest headlines from popular news, sports and entertainment sites.
* AT&T Navigator – offers turn-by-turn voice and onscreen driving directions, automatic rerouting, real-time traffic monitoring and more. AT&T Navigator is available for $9.99 per month, and new subscribers receive their first 30 days of their subscription for free.
* AT&T Address Book – syncs contacts to an online address book so customers can access and manage their mobile contacts from their handset — or their PC. There is no additional charge to use AT&T Address Book.

Ease will be available at AT&T retail stores nationwide and online at www.wireless.att.com on June 20 for $69.99 (Pay $119.99 and after mail-in rebate receive $50 AT&T Promotion Card. Two year service agreement and a minimum $20 messaging or combination of messaging and data plans required.)

AT&T Receives Frost and Sullivan Market Leadership Award for U.S. Wholesale Carrier Ethernet Services

AT&T* announced that it has received the Market Leadership Award for U.S. Wholesale Carrier Ethernet Services from global research and growth consulting firm Frost & Sullivan. The award is presented to the company that has demonstrated accomplishments in marketing Wholesale Carrier Ethernet Services.

The award from Frost & Sullivan recognizes AT&T's combination of excellent marketing strategy and utilization of strategic acquisitions to effectively sell a broad portfolio of offerings. According to Frost & Sullivan, AT&T held first position, in terms of revenue share, in U.S. Wholesale Carrier Ethernet services, with a revenue share of 27 percent, thus retaining its leadership position.

“With its extensive portfolio, extended footprint and in-depth knowledge of different wholesale customer segments, AT&T is in a unique position to tap the market potential,” said Roopashree Honnachari, senior industry analyst at Frost & Sullivan.

According to Frost & Sullivan, wireless carriers, as a customer segment for wholesale Ethernet, was the single largest segment driving double digit revenue growth in 2009. Wholesale carriers saw great demand for Ethernet both for mobile backhaul and aggregation, and Frost & Sullivan expects this trend to continue. AT&T Wholesale saw significant demand from the wireless operator space in 2009 for its Ethernet services, both at cell sites as well as aggregation networks. Frost & Sullivan also noted that ISPs continue to buy high-speed Ethernet ports for IP transit applications and represent a significant revenue share.

The growth of mobile broadband is driving significant opportunities and AT&T Wholesale offers a suite of solutions to help customers take advantage of these opportunities. Wholesale customers are migrating services to Ethernet – the scalability, lower equipment cost, and the continued rise of VoIP are all factors in the surge in the interest for Ethernet-based services.

“Ethernet is a key technology in the networking solutions we design, deploy and manage for our wholesale customers. This award underscores our commitment to providing customers with carrier-class Ethernet solutions to deliver high performance and help manage the substantial growth we are seeing,” said Sherry Charles, vice president, Wholesale and GEM Solutions Marketing, AT&T Operations, Inc. “It’s critical for us to scale as demand increases to not only support today’s unprecedented growth in mobile data traffic, but also the future demands of next-generation networks.”

AT&T Wholesale offers carrier-class Ethernet solutions that meet the stringent quality, reliability, capacity and redundancy demands of carriers, wireless operators, cable providers, ISPs and content providers. The portfolio is widely available, covering more than 360 metro areas and 240 long distance POPs, extensive interconnections with certified Ethernet access suppliers, and more than 36 countries via a common MPLS core network. AT&T’s entire suite of Ethernet services was certified by the Metro Ethernet Forum’s (MEF) test lab and passed the industry association’s most stringent MEF-14 evaluation for performance.

Whether wholesale customers are looking to help end-user customers meet their businesses' requirements for Ethernet access for small branch offices, high speed capacity to mission-critical data centers, or end-to-end connectivity for their own network, AT&T Wholesale has a flexible solution.

* Seamless inter-networking and ability to mix speeds by location and application to support high-speed data, VoIP and video applications
* Switched solutions starting at 2 Mbps and point-to-point solutions starting at 50Mbps
