Taiwan-based handset makers do not expect to receive more orders from Japanese brand vendors despite continous consolidation.
At the moment, Arima Communications, Compal Communications, Inventec Appliances, Qisda and Quanta are producing handsets for Japanese vendors but orders are limited. Japan's handset companies have always kept the majority of research and development and production in house, and will likely continue to do so, said sources from Taiwan-based handset makers.
Handsets from Japanese vendors have no cost advantage and is rapidly losing market share internationally, the sources pointed out. Coupled with the contraction of the Japanese market, the vendors are merely surviving thanks to telecom carriers playing favorites in the domestic market.
However, some Japanese vendors have begun to focus on the emerging nations with closer partnership with Taiwanese makers in the 2G segment, said industry observers, noting that some of the devices are based on MediaTek solutions to improve cost competitiveness.
In early June, Fujitsu and Toshiba were reportedly to be in talks about a possible merger of their respective handset businesses. Both companies have since denied the rumors.
NEC has recently acquired Casio Hitachi Mobile Communications to form NEC Casio Mobile Communication (NCMC). In 2008, Kyocera purchased Sanyo's mobile phone business.
At the moment, Japan's main handset brand vendors are Sharp, Panasonic, NCMC, Fujitsu, Toshiba, Kyocera and Sony Ericsson.
South Korea's smartphone exports topped US$300 million in May 2010, up 135% on year, according to the Ministry of Knowledge Economy.Overall handset exports however, declined by 29.8% from a year earlier to US$1.75 billion due to lower ASP and increased production overseas.
In the first quarter, South Korea's vendors grabbed a 5.4% share of the global smartphone market, up modestly from 5.2% in the fourth quarter of 2009.
With strong sales in the emerging markets for feature phones with touch panels, South Korea-based vendors owned a 32.1% share of the handset market worldwide in the first quarter.
GLOBAL - Can an old dog learn new tricks? If it taps into the Ovi Store, it certainly can. The Ovi Store isn’t just about solving problems and making your life easier using the library of apps available; it can also teach us a thing or two, or three for that matter. This week’s selection of three apps, from OviDailyApp, has us attempting a touch of star gazing; brushing-up on our salsa and cooking the perfect egg. Fancy grasping a new talent? Join us after the jump.
Kicking-off our journey of discovery is Norbsoft’s SkyMap. As the name suggests, SkyMap offers a complete map of the sky above our heads. The app will locate where you are in the world and your current time-zone, before offering opening up the layers of information above you. Choose to view either: planets, stars, constellations, sun and moon, messier objects, grid azimuth or labels. If, like us, you have no idea what these labels are, select them all. Fiddling done; sit back and explore the skies. If you want to know more about that star that sits in the middle of Orion’s belt, just zoom in, hook-up to the internet and you’ll be challenging Patrick Moore with your astronomy knowledge in no-time.
At £3.00, Norbsoft’s SkyMap is a decent offering if you have an interest in the stars, or just want to answer the odd question from an inquisitive family member.
Second in our new talent show we have Salsa Basics. Latino lovers take note; this is an app that puts a latin dance teacher in the palm of your hand. Aimed at both males and females, CubicVideo’s Mobile Dance Trainer – the bods behind Salsa Basics – uses a clever and effective combination of animations and video of live dancers to instruct beginners in basic steps and movement of the upper-body. Use up-to six different angles to follow your tiny dancers as they whizz around the screen. Each angle is synchronised to the others, making it possible to study all of the movements required of each partner – and equally important, how each of individual movement meshes together with the others, beat by beat.
The first set of instructions, Salsa Basic Step – for men, is available free in Ovi Store. The lady’s view of the app is available, too. To see the other steps available, take a look at all of the titles available from CubicVideo GmbH.
If auditioning with your teddy for Strictly Ballroom isn’t your thing, can we tempt you with some cooking? Our third, and final app, solves the problem of cooking the perfect egg. According to the app, created by Pico Brothers Ltd., the answer for the perfect egg comes in the form of one number: the time that the egg should be left in the pan once the water starts to boil. To get that one number, The Perfect Egg asks you to choose whether you’d like your egg to be liquid, soft, or hard. It also takes into account the size of the egg, the altitude at which the egg is being cooked, and the temperature of the egg when it is placed in the pot. Who knew that cooking the perfect egg was like solving a mathematical puzzle? Once you’ve cracked it, you’ll be dishing out the perfect egg and soldiers in no time. If you’re not sure what boiling an egg looks like, check-out the handy video below. The Perfect Egg can be downloaded from the Ovi Store. It is priced at £1.50.

SINGAPORE – The Nokia Connection event has just started over in Singapore with the launch of two new mobiles in the entertainment-oriented Xseries range of consumer smartphones. The phones in question are the new Nokia X5-01 model and the Nokia X6 8GB. Join us after the break for full details, pictures and a video of the Nokia X5 in action.
The Nokia X5 plugs part of the gap between the Nokia X3 and Nokia X6, but as you can see from the pictures, is a pretty unique device in its own right. You might be reminded of a MiniDisc player in its visual stylings and the musical connection is definitely correct when it comes to this device’s specialisms. The Nokia X5 features excellent sound quality, dedicated music keys and loud speakers, and will include access to Ovi Music, and to Comes with Music in some regions.
But this is also a social media maven’s mobile. There’s a full QWERTY keyboard under the dashboard, ready to deliver tweets, status updates and text messages at your convenience. The device supports all the major IM and webmail services out of the box and also offers easy access to major social networking sites (Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and Hi5). The camera offers 5 megapixels, 4X digital zoom and an LED flash. Onboard memory comes in at a modest 200MB, but there’s a 2GB Micro-SD card included, which can be upgraded up to 32GB. Like most recent mobiles from Nokia, the battery life also looks impressive, with up to 16-days standby time or 24 hours music playback from a full charge.
The device also features some inventive new input options. Budding DJs can spin the phone to switch to a new random track; while shaking it reveals the number of unread messages waiting from your friends. At present, the device is destined to launch in Indonesia during Q3, at an estimated retail price of EUR 165 before taxes and subsidies. Its availability in other markets is as yet unknown.
The event’s second launch – the Nokia X6 8GB – is rather more familiar, acting as a baby brother to the original Nokia X6 device – which came with 32GB – and the 16GB version that followed. It is expected to begin shipping during Q3 2010, and will sell at an estimated price of EUR 225 before taxes and subsidies.

Many people who perform a variety of ways to make their new blog indexed in search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing. They perform a variety of ways such as buying backlinks from blogs that have high page rank, submit to various directories, social bookmarking and so forth.
I've done it that way, there is a successful, but many have failed. In fact, my new blog entry is quite difficult search engines index it, despite already having done that way. After I check, it was just entered and indexed in Google after one week, at Yahoo and Bing for a month. Because I like to try, then I created another new blog. My blog content with six original articles. That articles not write in one or two days, but I write for three days.
It turned out after one week I checked on Google, Yahoo and Bing, my blog that contains six articles are already in the index. Then I typed with my targeted keywords on Google search engine, and the result is the main keyword got on the second page of one million pages. Then I check on Google Webmaster Tools, and the results were encouraging. Because some visitors clicked on the targeted keywords.
Well, from my story above, I'll give the secret to our blog or site indexed and getting good position on search engines within a short time:
1. Make at least six of the original article. I've made hundreds of articles that I get from various sources, and the results were disappointing. Because, the blog that contains articles from others will be difficulties in the index because the search engines appreciate the patent.
2. Make your internal links between pages and do not have external links. With my experience, the internal links more important than backlinks from the outside even though high page rank. Search engines prefer internal links to new blog.
3. Update routine, when the crawler search engines find your blog, it will be seen how often the blog are updated. Appropriate my experience, the blog updated regularly, would often be visited by search engines, although for the new blog.
4. Do not ever seek or give backlink. Although the backlink is very important, but if the blog is still new, this will be considered spam by search engines. You can build backlinks when the blog is already one month or more.
I am sure, you have own experience of SEO techniques. My experience is still learning SEO, may not be relevant anymore, but it does not matter. If you had an interesting experience to make the blog indexed within a short time, please share in the comment form.
