Explore apps for Android

See your world differently
Layar is a clever app that shows off the world around you in a new way. Download it for free, then point the camera on your Galaxy S at a location. You'll see information like where to find good bars - or where your friends just sent their tweets from.

Great for connections
Need to find train times without searching a website? The Trainline app gives you all the latest info. Or maybe you need to stay connected to your Facebook friends - there's an app for that too.

Android Market™
The online Android Market is crammed full with over 30,000 amazing apps. Choose the ones that are right for you - whether that's an app to give you the local weather or one that brings you the latest sports results.

Get ready for HD

Shoot in high definition
Direct your own HD video clips - then enjoy your movies in amazing quality on the large 4" AMOLED screen. Or use the 5 megapixel auto-focus camera to take incredibly clear photos.

Hook it up to your TV
Want friends and family to see your high definition handiwork? Just plug your Samsung Galaxy S into your TV and share your directing skills with everyone.

Room for hours of video - and more
With 16GB of storage built in to your Samsung Galaxy S, there's loads of room for your home movies - and your photos, music and files. Need more space? Add up to another 16GB with a microSD card.

The web - only faster

Fly through websites
When you're in a 3G area, you can hit some pretty impressive speeds. Because the Galaxy S is not only built for fast internet access, but also has a 1GHz processor inside - it's the quickest you can get on a phone.

Open lots of windows at once
Here's a breath of fresh air - you can open lots of web browser windows at once on your Samsung Galaxy S. That'll help you get to the things you want without waiting around.

Zoom in and out in a pinch
You'll find it's a breeze to zoom in quickly on photos and web pages. Put your finger and thumb on the touchscreen, move them apart. Simply bring them together again to zoom out.

HTC Sues Apple: The Complaint and Patents [DOC]

Earlier this morning, HTC said it has filed suit against Apple (AAPL), accusing the company of infringing on five HTC patents. Below, a copy of the suit and a list of the intellectual property at issue in it, which, frankly, pales a bit in compared with the patents in Apple’s complaint against HTC.

Sharp releases IS01 Snapdragon-Android MID developer version and SDK

While many of us were interested in the announcement a few months ago of the Sharp IS01 smartbook, with its 1GHz Snapdragon CPU, 5" capacitive touchscreen (960 x 480) with multitouch, trackball, clamshell form factor, and Android OS, the release date certainly put a damper on our excitement. A developer's version was promised in May but somehow the consumer version was said to be coming in October.

It's not. I don't know who came up with that date, but the Sharp IS01 is actually being released next month. I should be getting one then so we'll talk all about it later.

In the meantime, the developer's version (JN-DK01) became available today, along with the SDK and an Android developer's website called SH Developers Square. Developers are being asked to create 854 x 480 resolution applications using the basic Android 1.6 API and Sharp's proprietary extended API for "infrared data transfer, LED flashlight, camera, opening and closing [notifications], and file picker." They are locked out of the FM transmitter, 1Seg tuner, EVDO radio, and phone functions, some of which may not even be present at all in the unit.

The JN-DK01 doesn't come with any of the Google goodies (Gmail, Android Market, YouTube, etc.) or Sharp's apps either and is only offered in brown, so unless you plan to do all the legwork yourself and don't mind the color, then I'd suggest waiting until next month for the black or light blue IS01.

LG Ally for Verizon review

LG might be a bit late to the game, but its new Android 2.1 powered Ally for Verizon is a nice piece of kit. It features a good touchscreen display, a very nice keyboard, and some genuinely nice LG developed widgets and UI tweaks. With speed like that of Motorola's DROID, the Ally is looking pretty good.
