Cellphoning drivers blitzed

Monday, March 29, 2010

Some 3,800 Big Apple motorists were nailed yesterday for using their cellphones while driving in an NYPD crackdown.

The summonses were issued during the first part of a routine 24-hour dragnet designed to stop motorists from chatting or texting up a storm and endangering drivers, passengers and pedestrians, police said.

As of 6 p.m., cops had tallied 3,753 summonses. During the last ticket blitz, on Jan. 21, they handed out nearly 7,500 to chatty or text-happy drivers.
