ABBYY Announces OCR Integration Product Strategy For Cloud Infrastructures and Platforms

Wednesday, April 21, 2010

Two New Beta Trial Programs Give Developers Scalable, Robust Solutions for Generating Mobile Applications and Processing Large Data Volumes.

PHILADELPHIA -- ABBYY®, a leading provider of document recognition, data capture and linguistic software, unveiled at AIIM Expo and Conference, two new beta trial programs which will allow ISVs, mobile application developers, enterprise IT developers, and business process outsourcers (BPOs) to develop OCR (Optical Character Recognition) solutions within cloud-enabled environments. The limited beta trial program will include two products; ABBYY Mobile Web Services and ABBYY's AMI (Amazon Machine Image).

Both programs are being made available for beta testing to a select group of developers for testing and feedback. The program will include integration of ABBYY's award-winning optical character recognition (OCR), barcode recognition, and PDF conversion technologies into online and offline mobile applications as well as SaaS applications running on Amazon's Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) infrastructure.

ABBYY Mobile Web Services and AMI betas represent the most feature-rich and accurate development products for capture and conversion technologies in the Cloud. They can be applied, to integrate capture and conversion into mobile applications via Web Services, or to enhance your SaaS application on EC2 with ABBYY OCR Technology Features.

"There's no question emerging Cloud technologies will impact every organization's IT deployment strategies going forward. The scalability and ease of deployment that comes with cloud infrastructures and platforms are opening up new doors of opportunity," said Dean Tang, CEO at ABBYY USA. "ABBYY's beta products are the most comprehensive set of recognition technologies ever available to the emerging SaaS and Mobile development community. We're looking forward to working in tandem with developers to create the new solutions that are emerging from the combination of capture with Mobile and Cloud technologies."

ABBYY Mobile Web Services provides developers with a fast, secure and simple solution for accessing ABBYY's Mobile Software Development Kit (MSDK) via remote Web Services. The product is designed for mobile application developers who need to combine their own resources, application and data, with other external web services for robust OCR, barcode recognition, business card recognition and text conversion integration.

Using ABBYY Mobile Web Services, a developer can offload maintenance and upgrade activities that are common with embedding the OCR SDK in the application. Plus, because it's all enabled on Amazon EC2 it provides a platform-independent integration solution, making the development of mobile capture solutions faster and easier for developers, while lowering upfront IT costs. Because ABBYY hosts and maintains the tools, cumbersome administrative chores for developers are reduced, increasing ease-of-use to implement and improve time-to-market for their applications.

In addition to Mobile Web Services, ABBYY is also introducing ABBYY AMI (Amazon Machine Image). ABBYY's AMI gives business process outsourcers (BPOs), enterprise IT teams and ISVs currently hosting SaaS applications on Amazon's EC2 environment a tool for using ABBYY's world class technology to manage large volume document capture and conversion projects. ABBYY's AMI gives any organization the scalability and elasticity they need to meet high processing spikes very quickly, in ways that normally cannot be handled by internal data centers. IT professionals can obtain processing volume for these kinds of technology projects on an as-needed basis, since AMI lets them scale up to the number of servers they need, providing a highly economical solution.

The ABBYY Mobile Web Services Beta Trial Program will be available to a limited number of developers as of April 20, 2010. To register for the trial, go to https://mobilecloud.abbyyusa.com/Cloud/. ABBYY is currently testing the products with a limited number of developers. The ABBYY AMI Beta Trial Program will be available to a limited number of developers as of June 16, 2010.
