Taiwan-based second-tier players including Sitronix Technology, Weltrend Semiconductor, Ene Technology and Integrated Technology Express (ITE), have slashed their prices more aggressively, the sources noted.
Demand for touchscreen controllers have extended from smartphones to multimedia and even to mid- and high-end feature phones, the sources explained.
Sales of the mid-range feature phones launched by Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics (LGE) that are built with resistive touchscreen controllers have been successful, encouraging other vendors to follow suit, the sources added.
Nokia reportedly plans to also venture into the segment with plans to launch 3-5 mid-range touchscreen handsets in the second half, the sources revealed.
