Subscribers of Mosaic Telecom, a rural service provider in the United States, will soon enjoy guaranteed access to 3G services around their homes and offices. The operator is offering personal, mini, 3G base stations, connected via fixed broadband, to support high-quality quad-play services and mobile broadband in their premises. Mosaic has selected Nokia Siemens Networks’ industry-first 3GPP standard compliant femtocell network solution and Airvana’s 3G HSPA femtocell to provide personalized 3G coverage.
“Femtocells ensure subscribers enjoy the best indoor mobile voice, video and data services, and help offload traffic from the broader 3G network,” said Rick Vergin, chief executive officer of Mosaic Telecom. “In addition to securing higher customer satisfaction, we also expect this implementation to drive data traffic growth in the network, leading to increased average revenue per user (ARPUs).”
“The femtocell mini base station is important in further promoting 3G in rural areas,” said Mike Jurcy, head of channels for Nokia Siemens Networks in North America. “Mosaic Telecom has been a leader in the rural market, delivering top-quality 3G services to its customers, and this implementation will further improve the variety and quality of services, increasing customer loyalty levels and revenue generation.”
“In the past, femtocell deployments have been based on proprietary solutions,” said Amit Jain, vice president, femtocell product management, Airvana. “With the industry’s first 3GPP Release 8 standards based femto CPE device, we are helping the operator break new ground, encouraging an open ecosystem for future growth.”
Femtocells are small cellular access points that use a broadband Internet connection to provide consumers with an enhanced mobile connectivity experience in their premises. The end-to-end solution will comprise the Nokia Siemens Networks 3G Femto Gateway, Operation and Maintenance Server (OMS) and Provisioning Manager. Nokia Siemens Networks’ Value-Added Reseller (VAR), Pario Solutions, will commence the deployment of the solution in the third quarter of 2010.
