HTC Wildfire Deals Spread To T-Mobile, Free From £20 Per Month

Tuesday, June 22, 2010

The socially-savvy HTC Wildfire has arrived onto the T-Mobile network, filling out its role as the affordable Android device by being available for free from £20 per month.

For that you get a generous 600 minutes and 500 texts, as well as a flexible booster and unlimited shedloads of mobile internet. Actually, the magenta carrier is most generous when it comes to all-you-can-surf data, with a whopping 3GB data limit on snazzy smartphones.

Looking like a shrunken HTC Desire, the Wildfire is actually a great smartphone for both the budget and fashion conscious, with a 3.2-inch display, a media player with FM radio, a compact form factor and exclusive app recommendation and networking widgets.

Equipped with Android 2.1 (also answering to Eclair), the Wildfire loses nothing in the Google-phone stakes, fully kitted with Gmail, the Android Market and support for the free turn-by-turn navigation of Google Maps.

Soon to be available in a variety of new colourways, the HTC Wildfire is proof that the smartphone revolution is already here…

Welcome to the Device Tune-up Beta - Info and FAQ's

Friday, June 18, 2010

Background:
T-Mobile is continually looking for ways to bring new innovation to our customers. Within the My Account application, we are adding new functionality in the My Device section called Device Tune-up. Device Tune-up is built to run in the background at all times and ‘tune-up’ the device by closing unused services that are running.

Device Tune-up is different from most task killers because it does not require you to do anything. Device Tune-up will default to 'on'. While on, Device Tune-up proactively closes services to help the device and battery perform at their best. Most pre-loaded applications will not be affected by Device Tune-up. For our non-technical users, this may mean you never even realize Device Tune-up is running; your device may simply run better.

Getting Help & Providing Feedback:
Do not contact Customer Care for help or feedback regarding the Device Tune-up Beta.

We are looking for as much feedback as we can get! If you need any help at all, please post any questions, issues or suggestions you have in our Device Tune-up Beta board. We will do our best to help you as quickly as we can. :smileyhappy:

Requirements:
* This beta will work on all T-Mobile Android devices running 2.1 and below. If installed on a device using 2.2, the you may see the My Device BETA icon but you will not have the Device Tune-up functionality.
* This beta has not been tested on any devices running custom software outside of T-Mobile approved versions. It is recommended you do not install this beta if you are running a custom ROM.

T-Mobile Expands Super-Fast Network and Availability of T-Mobile® webConnect Rocket™ USB Laptop Stick to Cover 25 Major Metropolitan Areas

BELLEVUE, Wash. — T-Mobile USA, Inc. announced the expansion of its super-fast mobile broadband network, now offering 4G speeds1 to more than 25 major metropolitan areas across the U.S., and expects to cover more than 75 million Americans with HSPA+ by the end of June. Complementing the network expansion is the availability of the T-Mobile® webConnect Rocket™ USB Laptop Stick, the first HSPA+ capable device from a national U.S. wireless carrier, in T-Mobile retail stores in these new areas.

Now HSPA+ and the T-Mobile® webConnect Rocket™ USB Laptop Stick are available in major metropolitan areas across the country including Los Angeles; Dallas; Atlanta; Houston; Seattle; Tampa and Orlando, Fla.; Pittsburgh; Charlotte, Greensboro, and Winston-Salem, N.C.; Oklahoma City and Tulsa, Okla.; New Orleans; and Charleston, S.C. In addition, HSPA+ has been expanded to Bentonville, Ark.; Anderson, S.C.; and Fayetteville, N.C. T-Mobile’s HSPA+ mobile broadband service is already live in New York; Philadelphia; Las Vegas; Memphis; Upstate New York; Connecticut; Providence, R.I.; and the Washington, D.C., suburbs.

“T-Mobile has rolled out HSPA+ service to more than 25 major metropolitan areas in four month’s time, as we drive towards having the most pervasive mobile broadband network delivering 4G speeds in the country,” said Neville Ray, senior vice president of Engineering and Operations for T-Mobile USA. “T-Mobile is delivering unprecedented value to our customers with the availability of a super-fast mobile broadband experience combined with compelling and affordable devices and data plans.”

T-Mobile’s rapidly expanding HSPA+ mobile broadband footprint makes it easy for customers to enjoy 4G speeds on the HSPA+-enabled T-Mobile® webConnect Rocket™ USB Laptop Stick. In addition, T-Mobile currently has 15 3G devices that can benefit from enhanced speeds when they’re on the HSPA+ network, including the newest smartphone available from T-Mobile today — the Nokia E73 Mode.

T-Mobile has made considerable progress in the number of areas with faster mobile broadband — and expects to continue this aggressive pace to deliver HSPA+ speeds in 100 major metropolitan areas with backhaul in place, covering 185 million people in the U.S. by the end of this year.

“With the rapid expansion of its HSPA+ network this year, T-Mobile is in a great position of being able to deliver high-speed data service to a broader number of customers today,” said Peter Jarich, principal analyst, Wireless Infrastructure, Current Analysis. “Ultimately, consumers don’t care what technology powers the network they’re using — they care about the quality and experience of their mobile data service, the cost of those services, and the devices available to access them. HSPA+ has the potential to deliver higher data rates across a broader lineup of devices in the next one to two years than competing technologies.”

Step 1.
Place the Contents of "Slide Root.zip" into your Android SDK Tools folder.

Step 2.
Open Command Prompt or Terminal and CD to the SDK/Tools Directory.

Step 3.
Power on the Slide into the bootloader by Holding Down ( Volume Down + Power Button )

Step 4.
Now run your loop file from the prompt (either type "loop" in windows or "./loop.sh" in a *nix like)

Step 5.
Once your loop is running in your prompt, select Recovery from the bootloader menu.

Step 6.
When recovery loads, you should Have an Offline Device. You can use ctrl+c to stop your script & see.
If this doesn't happen, Power Off and try again..

Step 7.
Un-plug your USB cable from the back of your phone & Plug it back in for it to Detect ADB Correctly!!! This is an important step. At this point you can adb devices to see if you can see your device and that it is in recovery mode.

Step 8.
Select Update.zip from the menu. (This will fail, but we already know that! Select it anyway).

Step 9.
adb push ota.zip /sdcard/update.zip (*nixlike users add a ./ in front of all terminal commands please.)

Step 11.
adb push slideroot.zip

Step 12.
This is Very important!! Have this Command ready in your prompt before applying update.zip again!!

adb push update.zip /sdcard

step 13.
Hit run update.zip, as soon as you see a Little Bar appear under the text push Enter to execute the command in your prompt (adb push update.zip /sdcard )

Step 14.
In successful, you should see Clockwork Recovery. If unsuccessful, repeat steps 12 & 13.

Step 15.
Now, go to the Partitions menu and Mount System

step 16.
Go back one level & select install any zip from sdcard. Select slideroot.zip & apply update from zip (This will finish the Root process).

Step 17.
Reboot your phone & wait for it to load completely. To confirm that your slide is connected as a device use the command adb devices. If this works, you will see it as a device. Your prompt will say something like:

$ ./adb devices
List of devices attached
HT05YUP12710 device

Step 18.
adb install Superuser.apk (If this looks like it works, but says it cannot locate directories, make sure you can find your device using adb devices… If things still don't work, my best advice is to start over)

Step 19.
After Superuser is installed try to use adb to shell to your device.

adb shell
you will get a $

Then type su

Superuser should pop-up asking if you give permission, do so.
Your $ should turn into a #. If so, you have root.

Congrats.

Big thanks to Eugene_373 for doing all the legwork on this & for kingofyo1 for the helpful video.

That's it, you now Have Root... I'll clean this up a bit, But it's the same Root method as the HTC Incredible... I Just added Su & fix the Script, Plus figuring out how-to get it to write to system to Paul O'Brien:

T-Mobile Celebrates Dads with Unprecedented, One-Day-Only Every Phone Free Event on Sat., June 19

T-Mobile Declares “No More Ties for Dad” for Father’s Day; New Poll Notes Most Dads Would Trade-in Every Tie in Their Closet for a New Mobile Phone.

BELLEVUE, Wash. – To help celebrate dad, T-Mobile USA, Inc. announces the mother of all Father’s Day offers: on Sat., June 19, for one day only, every phone in every T-Mobile store is free.* This first-of-its-kind promotion will “untie” families from giving dad the traditional, same-old gift, instead offering him something he craves — a new smartphone.

T-Mobile will break the traditional gift-giving mold by offering every phone in every store for free. This Saturday, starting at 8 a.m., simply visit a T-Mobile retail store and switch to any family plan, or add a new line to an existing family plan, and walk out of the store with a new phone for every new line with a two-year agreement — customer’s choice — while supplies last.

“For this very special day celebrating dad and the entire family, T-Mobile is thrilled to offer an industry-first promotion that helps families stay connected,” said Adrian Hurditch, vice president of marketing, T-Mobile USA. “This unprecedented event champions dad and helps families stick together with the latest phones — all for free.”

With affordable unlimited calling, texting and data family plans, T-Mobile is giving our most connected customers options that take advantage of the latest devices. With the Father’s Day promotion, dads can choose from a selection of 30 devices, no phones excluded, including a variety of brands such as HTC, Motorola, Nokia, RIM, Samsung, SonyEricsson, and Sharp. All phones will be available while supplies last, so customers are encouraged to arrive early to stores to secure the latest and most popular new devices, including the most recently launched smartphones from T-Mobile:

* myTouch 3G Slide™: Combines a slide-out QWERTY keyboard with an incredibly crisp, high-performance touch screen powered by the latest Android™ software. The device hosts unique new features that will help dads connect more easily, more quickly and more often, including the Faves Gallery™, myModes and Genius Button™.
* HTC HD2: Offering the largest touch screen size on a smartphone in the U.S., this slim and sleek device comes ready with a blazing-fast processor and access to millions of eBooks, movies, television programs and more, keeping dad constantly entertained.
* Garminfone™: For the adventurous dad, this new Android™-powered smartphone is fully-integrated with Garmin’s premium navigation experience and includes voice-guided and on-screen directions, real-time traffic, weather, and gas price updates.

“No More Ties” - Dads Want SmartphonesT-Mobile’s celebration of dads couldn’t come at a better time with new T-Mobile survey results showing that more than half of dads received Father’s Day gifts they didn’t want. In fact, 53% of dads don’t recall the gift they received just two years ago. According to the poll, one in four dads would ban ties as gifts for Father’s Day, and the majority of dads (56%) would trade all ties in their closet for a new phone. Nearly three quarters (74%) of dads polled said they would be excited to get a new phone for Dad’s Day, and more than half believe their current phone is out of date. Dads want a gift they’ll actually use, with two-thirds admitting they’ve received a Father’s Day gift they’ve never or hardly ever used. If dads had their way, not only would they ban ties but 19% said they would ban golf balls, 17% would ban coffee mugs, 14% would ban cologne and 11% would ban desk sets. Dads have one day to get the phone they’ve really been craving – and he can ensure the rest of the family can join him in staying connected. T-Mobile’s free phones Father’s Day promotion is one day only, June 19, in every T-Mobile store across the country. For additional promotion details and a list of participating stores, visit http://www.t-mobile.com/celebratefamilies.

*The offer is valid at T-Mobile owned and operated locations only. New activation on qualifying family plan with two-year agreement required. Limit five lines per family plan. Mail-in rebate and restrictions may apply. Store hours may vary. See store for details.

T-Mobile Hungary bring Android 2.1 to Huawei Pulse

Android 2.2 is hot news right now, and it is quite possibly the first version of Android which really hits the spot for all the different types of people out there that demand slightly different things from their smartphone. Nonetheless, plenty of Android phones are still running much older iterations of the little green robot. Indeed, Android fragmentation has been a hot topic for a while now. A number of entry level devices are still running on Android 1.6 so it is great news when we hear of one upgrading.

The Huawei Pulse is alleged to receive an upgrade to Android 2.1 via T-Mobile Hungary. This news comes to us via Eurodroid, but is available for anyone to see over at the T-Mobile Hungary website. Check it out translated into English here. This page offers a step-by-step guide along with a link to the files you need to download the get this thing moving. For anyone looking to try this at home, as T-Mobile themselves point out, after upgrading to ‘the 2.1 software, the transition to version 1.5 can not be restored.’

T-Mobile USA CEO Robert Dotson to Leave Company in May 2011; Philipp Humm Named as CEO Designate

DT CEO René Obermann: Respect for Dotson Decision;
DT Confirms Commitment to U.S. Business

BELLEVUE, Wash. — Robert Dotson, president and chief executive officer of T-Mobile USA, Inc., has informed Deutsche Telekom (DT) of his intent to transition to new opportunities in 2011 after 15 years of service with T-Mobile USA. In order to ensure a smooth transition of leadership, Dotson has committed to stay actively engaged in the business until
May 2011. His designated successor is Philipp Humm, an experienced DT executive and former CEO of T-Mobile Deutschland. Humm is currently responsible for sales and service in Europe as chief regional officer (CRO) Europe. After a period of transition with Dotson, it’s the intention that Humm will take over as CEO of T-Mobile USA in February 2011, while Dotson will remain on as a T-Mobile USA non-executive board member until May 2011.

“For 15 years it has been a privilege to lead the talented T-Mobile USA team in its journey to become a leading U.S. wireless provider. The time is right to ensure a thoughtful leadership transition to position T-Mobile USA for the next 15 years of opportunity,” Dotson said. “It has long been my intent to step away from the business at this stage in my life in order to devote more time to family and to take on entirely new and unique challenges. That change can only be made possible if a suitable successor is in place. Over the next year, it will be my relentless focus and responsibility to work closely with Philipp to ensure marketplace success, and to enable a seamless leadership transition.”

René Obermann, CEO of Deutsche Telekom, said, “I sincerely regret Robert’s decision to leave, however I absolutely respect his decision, and am most grateful that he has offered to stay on for another year in order to work with Philipp to ensure continuity in running the business. Robert’s pioneering leadership in establishing T-Mobile USA as one of the leading players in the U.S. mobile market has not only been recognized by us at Deutsche Telekom, but by the industry as a whole. An agile mind, business acumen, strong leadership, entrepreneurial spirit and team work – these are some of the many excellent qualities that have made Robert such an invaluable leader within the DT Group.”

Coming to T-Mobile USA as president and CEO designate, effective July 1, 2010, Humm brings significant experience in the U.S. marketplace. Before joining Deutsche Telekom, Humm worked for ten years for a number of U.S.-based companies including McKinsey & Company, Procter & Gamble, and Amazon in senior level positions. Humm has since served as CEO of
T-Mobile Deutschland from 2005 until 2008. He took over a company in a declining market and successfully turned it around during his tenure to become Germany’s leading mobile operator in both subscribers as well as service revenues. He was also responsible for the successful market introduction of the iPhone® in Germany in 2007.

Humm, 50, has strong international experience, and in his present position as CRO Europe, he is responsible for international sales and customer service, as well as steering the five national mobile companies in Austria, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, the UK and Poland. In this role he has played a pivotal part in the recent, successful establishment of the joint venture in the United Kingdom between T-Mobile UK and Orange UK of France Telekom.

“With Philipp, we have an excellent leader with an outstanding track record in the mobile industry,” Obermann added. “During his five years at Deutsche Telekom, Philipp has proven bold leadership and intense determination to succeed. His strong vision within the industry as well as his courage to transform, combined with his entrepreneurial qualities, ensures that he has all the credentials to lead T-Mobile USA as a strong competitor in a very dynamic market. I am more than confident that both Robert and Philipp will work closely together to create a smooth transition of leadership, as well as moving the business forward.”

Humm said, “It is a privilege for me to take over the reins from an established leader such as Robert. I look forward to working with him and the T-Mobile USA team during the transition phase, and I relish the prospect of leading such a proud company as T-Mobile USA – a force to be reckoned with in one of the largest markets in the world. It is a great challenge, and I am grateful for having been given the chance to make a difference.”
