Huawei and Nucleus Connect successfully host inaugural Next Gen NBN Summit in Singapore

Huawei, a leader in providing next-generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world and Nucleus Connect Pte. Ltd. (Nucleus Connect), Singapore' s Next Generation Nationwide Broadband Network (Next Gen NBN) Operating Company (OpCo) today successfully hosted the inaugural Next Gen NBN Summit in Singapore, which attracted over 200 attendees from 100 operators and industry players worldwide.

Themed "To Enrich Life through the Next Generation Nationwide Broadband Network", the one-day summit was jointly organized by Nucleus Connect and Huawei in response to rising interests on Next Gen NBN' s deployment and operation worldwide. Nucleus Connect is the official Next Gen NBN Operating Company appointed by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore to build, design and operate the active infrastructure of the Next Gen NBN in Singapore.

At the summit, Mr David Storrie said, "We have put in a world-class infrastructure that will be able to meet any future surge in the demand for bandwidth services within Singapore for a long time. The commercial roll out of the Next Gen NBN enabled by Nucleus Connect will play a significant role in fulfilling the Singapore's vision of transforming the nation into a truly networked knowledge-based society by 2015."

On 6 May 2010, Nucleus Connect also launched its two Central Offices which house highly advanced optical network equipment that will empower the Next Gen NBN based on Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) and Optical Ethernet (OE) access technologies. Strategically located at the East and North of Singapore at Tai Seng Drive and Yishun respectively, they also house a state of the art Operations and Business support system (OSS/BSS) that will function as the heartbeat of the Next Gen NBN.

The launch of Nucleus Connect' s Central Offices underscores its commitment to enable Retail Service Providers (RSPs) to develop their service offerings more quickly, so that they are able to offer a wide range of services to the end-users from the second half of this year. For a start, co-location, patching and interoperability testing services are now made immediately available to the prospective RSPs.

In his opening speech, Huawei Global Marketing Vice President Mr. Kevin Zhang said that national broadband initiatives were booming across the globe and will transform the telecom landscape, opening up opportunities in both developed and emerging markets. "A national broadband initiative must satisfy bandwidth-hungry applications, such as video conferencing, home surveillance, streaming video, and HDTV. Based on similar projects around the world, Huawei' s research indicates that 30 to 100Mbps is the inevitable short-term minimum range. Singapore' s iN2015 project, for example, requires 100Mbps downlink and 50Mbps uplink speeds in 2010," said Mr. Zhang.

Mr. Zhang also stated that public and private sector collaboration is essential for national broadband success, given the variety of stakeholders that span government, operators, vendors, and service providers. "Network planning, implementation, and operation require a complete and mature eco-system. Experience indicates that operators with the strong backing of partner vendor are a major force in implementing the national broadband initiative, by helping governments draft blueprints, investing in line with government policy, maintaining networks, and delivering services," he added.

Huawei Launches New Metropolitan OTN to Enable Operators to Handle Future Bandwidth Demands

Huawei, a leader in providing next-generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, launched the OSN8800 T16, a next-generation metropolitan OTN system, at the 2010 WDM & Next Generation Optical Networking event in Monaco. This new transport system accommodates bandwidth-heavy services such as data, video, and storage, and significantly reduces operator costs with easy maintenance, energy-efficiency, and space-saving features.

Poised to enable operators to handle future bandwidth demands, the OSN8800 T16 achieves 40G/100G transport and offers full-service cross-connection capabilities that support ODUk wavelength and packet cross-connections, offering more flexibility and efficiency in wavelength utilization. By utilizing OTN cross-connections, which reach 640G and easily upgrade to 1.6T, OSN8800 T16 provides easy maintenance and fast service provisioning similar to SDH. Huawei Takes Top Spot as Ericsson and Nokia Siemens Experience Large Sequential Drops.

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. -- Dell'Oro Group, the trusted source for market information about the networking and telecommunications industries, announced that the wireless packet core market contracted 30 percent sequentially during the first quarter this year due to seasonal factors, an extraordinarily strong previous quarter, and order and revenue volatility. Despite this very large drop in the first quarter, however, the market is forecast to grow in the remainder of 2010.

"First quarter results were only a bump-in-the-road for the wireless packet core market this year," said Greg Collins, Vice President at Dell'Oro Group. "Data usage and smartphone penetration continue to increase and will drive the need for more signaling and bandwidth capacity. Because of these strong demand drivers and despite lower than expected first quarter results, our forecast for 2010 remains essentially unchanged at $2.1 billion, or almost 10 percent growth versus 2009," he added.

The report indicates that Huawei surpassed both Ericsson and Nokia Siemens in the first quarter to capture the top spot in the market with more than 25 percent revenue share. Given a very strong fourth quarter in 2009 in North America for GGSN and SGSN equipment, Ericsson and Nokia Siemens both saw very large sequential declines in the first quarter this year due to order volatility. With the anticipated growth in wireless data and signaling needs, it is likely that both of these vendors will rebound in the coming quarters.

Huawei Receives Three Accolades at Global Telecoms Business Innovation Awards

Huawei, a leader in providing next-generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, announced that it received three top industry awards at the Global Telecoms Business Innovation Awards on June 7th. The publication honoured Huawei for its outstanding performances in BT' s "Transforming service enablement through software developer kit" project, TalkTalk' s "Dancing on Ice – cost-free contestant voting" campaign and Vodafone' s "Green wireless solution - affordable for all communities" campaign.

The awards, judged by an independent panel, acknowledged Huawei' s strong innovation abilities across different telecom sectors from wireless, to wholesale and customer service, underpinned by close collaborations with the world' s leading operators.

"We are proud that TalkTalk' s ‘Dancing on Ice' cost-free constant voting project was well received by our customers and the industry," said Clive Dorsman, managing director of TalkTalk Technology. "TalkTalk and Huawei spearheaded the initiative to provide customers with value for money by offering free votes based on over-load control software solutions. Huawei, a leader in providing next-generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, announced that it has won the 2010 3G CDMA Industry Achievement Award for Network Technology Innovation presented by the CDMA Development Group (CDG) at the second annual CDMA World Forum in Shanghai in recognition of its consistent contributions and innovations in CDMA technology.

The 3G CDMA Industry Achievement Awards are presented annually by the CDG to honor businesses and individuals making notable contributions to wireless technology in technical innovation, standards development, consumer entertainment services, or enterprise solutions over the prior year. Final selection of the winners was made by senior CDG executive members as well as representatives of industry associations and the trade media community.

Huawei Leads Both the Business Services NMS and Residential Broadband NMS Markets

Huawei, a leader in providing next-generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, was ranked first in both the business services NMS (IP&Optical) and residential broadband NMS (Network Management System) markets, with 25% and 29% shares respectively, by the world-renowned consulting firm Analysys Mason in its research report Analysys_Mason_NEMs_NMS_market_share_Apr2010.

Partnering with global industry-leading carriers, Huawei has developed a wide array of end-to-end IPTime network solutions. As an important integrated part of the IPTime solution, Huawei' s network operation and maintenance (O&M) solution, is designed incorporating the ideas of "Single OSS(Operation Support System)", "Continuous Innovations", and "Customer-centric". 'Movistar unveils Ivy low-cost Android phone with Huawei'

Movistar, in partnership with Huawei, will launch a low-cost Android-powered handset. Dubbed Ivy, the Huawei U8100 device is produced by Huawei, and enables HSDPA mobile broadband access at speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps. The Android 2.1 handset also features support for WiFi y Bluetooth, 3-megapixel camera and 2.8-inch touch screen. The Movistar IVY comes with the Google applications, including YouTube, Gmail and Google Maps. It also includes a GPS sensor that automatically scans the area around the user's position, Ruta Movistar Navigation service, and allows satellite navigation software to be obtained from third-party vendors. The phone comes preloaded with MovistarAeA's multiplatform social network Keteke, as well as Youtube and Facebook.

The Ivy includes a 2GB memory card and can be synchronised with a PC by using the included USB cable, in order to exchange emails and update calendars and tasks. Users can also use their phones to share photos, songs and other files with their friends via Bluetooth or by connecting to local WiFi networks. Movistar voice service subscribers can also activate a pay-per-use internet option. Customers can access Movistar's mobile internet services for EUR 1 per day. Ivy users can also deactivate the data service at the end of the day to avoid charges for unintentional use. Starting 1 June, the low-cost Android device will be available for prices ranging between EUR 0 and EUR 95, depending on the selected tariff plan. The device will be available free of charge for new subscribers and ported customers.

T-Mobile Hungary bring Android 2.1 to Huawei Pulse

Android 2.2 is hot news right now, and it is quite possibly the first version of Android which really hits the spot for all the different types of people out there that demand slightly different things from their smartphone. Nonetheless, plenty of Android phones are still running much older iterations of the little green robot. Indeed, Android fragmentation has been a hot topic for a while now. Brazil' s NET Expands Its Broadband Metro Network Using Huawei' s IPTime Broadband Metro Solution

Huawei, a leader in providing next-generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, announced that it was selected by NET, the largest cable TV operator and the second largest broadband service provider in Brazil, to deploy its IPTime broadband metro solution as part of an initiative to expand and restructure NET' s IP metro network. This initiative will provide subscribers with high-quality, high-definition (HD) video service throughout the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

As a result of a 30% increase in subscribers since 2009, NET faces challenges such as aging equipment, soaring OPEX, little support for new bandwidth heavy HD and 3D video services, and exhaustion of IPv4 (Internet Protocol version 4) address resources. To address these challenges, NET initiated its "NET Virtual Routers" project using Huawei' s IPTime broadband metro solution to update its existing metro network and include new coverage areas to extend service reach.

Huawei's solution, featuring "SingleMetro, MultiPlay", uses innovative technologies such as video packet retransmission and fast channel change (FCC) to deliver high-quality video services. The converged SingleMetro platform - the industry' s most comprehensive IPv6 evolution option with a flexible "pay-as-you-grow" design - supports NET' s seamless evolution to future networks, while achieving maximum investment protection.

"As a leading broadband service provider in Latin America, NET focuses not only on the advanced and future-proof network with its diverse IP service offerings, but also on high returns on investment and long-term investment protection. Huawei Wins LTE Innovation and Commercialization Awards at LTE World Summit 2010

Huawei, a leader in providing next-generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, announced that, in recognition of their advancements in the commercialization and research and development of LTE technology, the company won two top awards at the LTE World Summit 2010 in Holland. These awards include "Significant Progress for a Commercial Launch of LTE by a Vendor" and "Best Contribution to Research & Development for LTE."

The LTE World Summit 2010 attracted more than one thousand attendees, including operators, vendors and organizations from across the LTE ecosystem. Huawei was selected by an independent panel of judges and honored for their significant contributions to the LTE industry chain.

Huawei Provides China Unicom with Integrated Solution for Mobile and Fixed-line Video Communications

Huawei, a leader in providing next-generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, announced that it has deployed an integrated solution for providing multi-media video communications between mobile callers and traditional fixed-line customers using a VIG (video interworking gateway) for Beijing Unicom, a subsidiary of China Unicom.

This solution is part of Huawei' s mobile softswitch and allows multi-media video interworking between fixed and mobile networks without additional equipment. Using the VIG, China Unicom customers can have flexible multi-media services that leverage the advanced 3G network. Huawei' s integrated VIG solution simplifies operation and maintenance for China Unicom, as opposed to a separate video gateway solution, and it can also provide IMS (IP multimedia subsystem) and IM-MGW (IP multimedia media gateway) capabilities, which will allow China Unicom to easily implement complete fixed-mobile convergence.

Huawei Wins "Solution Excellence Award" at TM Forum

WiMAX Industry Outlines Future Growth Opportunities and Direction

Call for increased collaboration and across-the-board interoperability to enable flexible deployments.

Huawei, a leader in providing next-generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, along with WiMAX industry partners Clearwire, Intel and the WiMAX Forum, outlined an agenda that explored opportunities for the future of WiMAX at the 2010 Global WiMAX Business Development Forum held in Hawaii. Forum attendees from across the global WiMAX industry ecosystem concluded that the development of the WiMAX industry worldwide has taken off.

Participants believe the future of WiMAX is tied to its increasing capacity to offer across-the-board interoperability that helps lower costs, broaden bandwidth and enable highly flexible deployment. WiMAX' s ability to deliver high quality data speeds, fast transmission and abundant services is largely enabled by the adoption of advanced, future-oriented technologies, such as 4T4R (4 transmitters and 4 receivers), MIMO (multi-input multi-output), and Beamforming, which are now commercially available by Huawei.

To reach the next level for the WiMAX industry, Mr. Tang Xinhong, president of WiMAX, Huawei, called for increased collaboration across the industry. He stated: "If the challenges of WiMAX development, such as standardization, technology, industry maturity, commercialization, and spectrum, can be addressed one by one, undoubtedly the development of WiMAX will be accelerated. Only in collaboration with our partners, can we prompt the evolution of WiMAX."

At the Forum, Clearwire outlined the strength of its current WiMAX capabilities. Clearwire is the world' s largest WiMAX operator, with its commercial network covering approximately 41 million people today in the United States. Clearwire' s 4G networks in Hawaii and Seattle - which Huawei provided, deployed and services - are the world' s first to adopt 4T4R MIMO technology, and can be upgraded to Beamforming through software upgrades. Huawei's multi-carrier technology and fourth-generation base station platform enable Clearwire to significantly reduce expansion costs in the future.

Huawei Takes Lead in HD Services Powered by IP & OTN Synergy

Huawei, a leader in providing next-generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, successfully demonstrated the benefits of IP & OTN synergy for high-definition (HD) services in Shenzhen at the end of last month. Huawei' s SingleBackbone solution enabled the concept of "IP & OTN synergy" to become a reality.

As the dominant trend in services, HD services will narrow the convergence ratio of metropolitan area networks (MAN) from 16:1 to 2:1, while dramatically challenging backbone network capacity. Instead of following traditional methods of converging or separating the IP and OTN optical layers, Huawei's SingleBackbone pursues a balance between the two, which achieves traffic, protection, and management synergy across the two layers. This technique considerably increases resource utilization and network reliability, efficiently cuts operation, administration, and maintenance (OAM) costs, and helps operators confidently address pressures facing the future backbone network.

"Interworking between the optical transmission layer and the IP layer is emerging as an important feature for service providers looking to optimize network architectures and reduce cost," said Ron Kline, Principal Analyst Network Infrastructure, OVUM. "Huawei' s demonstration showed early evidence of progress in reaching this goal."

In Shenzhen, analysts from around the world witnessed demonstrations of Huawei's end-to-end SingleBackbone solution, covering network planning, traffic switching, and OAM. The solution enables cross-layer network planning through a set of tools and management systems, backed up by resources for highly-efficient, easy OAM at lower costs. Huawei's SingleBackbone responds to traffic changes and allows for the switching of HD traffic services across layers, thus balancing traffic between the router and the OTN network and effectively mitigating pressures that irritate router capacity and alleviating the impact of burst traffic on signal quality.

Christian Chua, president of Converged Backbone Solution Department, Network Product Line, Huawei, said, "As part of Huawei ALL-IP convergence strategy, our single Backbone solution enables operators to increase network efficiency, mitigate pressures on the backbone network and optimize network reliability, while slashing OM costs."

Huawei has participated in the development of approximately 100 backbone networks, with more than 30,000 OTN products shipped, and more than 1,000 cumulative sets of NE5000E core routers and associated cluster systems worldwide. According to OVUM, Huawei ranked first in the 2009 global WDM market and third in the 2009 global core router market, and was the only vendor to be listed among the top three market leader boards of both WDM and core routers.

(Telfort), a subsidiary of KPN B.V., today unveiled a preview of Telfort 2.0, Europe' s first Next-Generation Business Support System (NGBSS). The system, named "Telfort 2.0" by Telfort, is a new innovative customer care and billing solution. This new solution began serving a selected number of new customers in a few of Telfort' s shops in April 2010. It provides customers and users with economical, user-friendly services. In June 2010 all of Telfort' s postpaid customers will be transferred to this new platform. In the years to come, it will also serve Telfort' s prepaid and internet customers.

Telfort has partnered with Huawei to deliver a future-proof, next generation business support system (NGBSS) that will integrate Telfort' s complicated IT landscape, will increase its business efficiency and will enable Telfort to keep up with market-driven innovation with this state of the art solution. The new system is based on service oriented architecture (SOA) and combines TM Forum Frameworx (also known as Next Generation Operations Systems and Software, NGOSS) enhanced Telecom Operation Map eTOM and Shared Information/Data Model SID standards, which are the basis for future evolution and transformation.

By optimizing business processes, simplifying the creation and deployment of new products and services and enabling customers to handle a much wider range of activities through self-service, Telfort' s new system will reduce the company' s Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) significantly. Huawei Wins More than 60% Market Share of China Mobile IMS Deployment

Huawei, a leader in providing next-generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, announced that it obtained the largest market share of China Mobile IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) deployment. After ranking first overall in technical capabilities tests, Huawei was awarded contracts in 19 provinces, including Guangdong, Jiangsu and Zhejiang, serving more than 60% of China Mobile' s subscriber base for the entire project. Four other vendors share the remaining portion.

The IMS procurement process was started in 2009 and mainly driven by the China Mobile full service / convergent strategy. The project covers 31 provinces and has the capacity to provide advanced services to 14 million subscribers. It is by far the largest IMS deployment to date. The first deployment phase will target businesses, households and individuals upon demand and will provide multimedia telephony, convergent IP Centrex, and other services such as MRBT (Multimedia Ring-Back Tone). Huawei worked closely with China Mobile to design the solution, write the specifications and proceed with the testing. This allowed Huawei to fully understand China Mobile' s needs and requirements.

The study covers the following products: softswitches, IMS (CSCF), media gateways, signaling gateways and session border controllers (SBCs). As of February 2010, Huawei won more than 120 commercial and trial IMS contracts.

It is also the world' s first WiMAX network to adopt cutting-edge 4T4R (4 transmitter and 4 receiver) and Beamforming technology, delivering wireless access speeds comparable to most ADSL2+ connections.

Beamforming maximizes transmission power so that consumers can receive a better signal and a higher data rate. It also provides a 20% increase in coverage radius. The deployment of ngHLR can serve 10 million subscribers in Sri Lanka and enable Dialog to realize centralized management, simplify its network, and support future subscriber growth.

Huawei' s ngHLR solution addresses the challenges operators face by enabling them to improve reliability of HLR networks and reduce the high OPEX of HLR.
