Computex 2010: Sequans WiMAX chips adopted by Gemtek, AWB Tweet

Sequans Communications, a 4G chipmaker supplying LTE and WiMAX chips to equipment manufacturers and mobile operators worldwide, has announced that Taiwan-based Gemtek Technology and Accton Wireless Broadband (AWB) have both adopted its chips for their new WiMAX products, which will be debuted at the upcoming Computex 2010 (June 1-5).

Gemtek has developed a new and cost-effective mobile WiMAX CPE based on Sequans' WiMAX chip, and will deploy the new device for Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL)'s WiMAX network in India. The new Gemtek WIXS-181 outdoor CPE delivers high speed internet access, and operates at 2.5GHz.

"Gemtek's new CPE is a powerful solution that will eventually serve millions in India with Mobile WiMAX service," said Sequans CEO Georges Karam. Sequans claimed its new generation mobile WiMAX semiconductor solutions deliver baseband and triple band RF in a single 65nm die, delivering ultra-low power consumption and ultra-high performance at a very low cost. The chips also deliver two transmit channels and adaptive closed loop diversity (2T-CLD) on the uplink, technology pioneered by Sequans that can nearly double cell coverage.

Sequans also announced AWB has adopted its chips for several new WiMAX products. Its SQN1200-series chips integrate baseband and triple-band RF in a single 65nm for dramatically reduced cost, power consumption and size, in addition to the dual transmit uplink capability. The integrated RF covers all three global WiMAX bands - 2.3GHz, 2.5GHz and 3.5GHz.

New Gemtek and AWB WiMAX products featuring Sequans' solutions will be showcased at Sequans' Computex booth (Hall 1, TWTC, 1F A0418a).
