Gothenburg, Sweden’s second largest city, will soon enjoy ultra high-speed mobile broadband services. Under a contract signed in January 2010 for radio network roll out, TeliaSonera´s Swedish subsidiary Telia is gearing up to launch 4G/LTE services in Gothenburg using Nokia Siemens Networks’ Flexi Multiradio Base Station. Sweden is at the forefront of 4G/LTE, and the commercial launch is a significant step for the development of the technology worldwide.
“The demand for ultra high-speed mobile broadband is significantly increasing in Sweden, and after TeliaSonera´s world premiere last year with 4G services, we are now continuing a fast roll out in Sweden. Nokia Siemens Networks, as one of two LTE vendors, is now providing the radio network in Sweden’s second largest city,” said Erik Hallberg, senior vice president and head of Mobility Services Sweden in TeliaSonera.
“We have a long relationship with TeliaSonera both globally and in Sweden and are happy to be a technology partner in providing 4G/LTE services,” said Jan Lindgren, head of the TeliaSonera team at Nokia Siemens Networks. “4G/LTE will bring a new era in mobile broadband where customers can feel the difference in speed and quality, whether they use a laptop or a smartphone to access content or applications.”
Under the two-year radio network contract, Nokia Siemens Networks is supplying its awardwinning Flexi Multiradio Base Stations that could result in up to 70% network energy savings compared to previous base station generations. Nokia Siemens Networks has also provided its NetAct network management system to monitor, manage and optimize the operator’s network. Services including network planning, integration and optimization as well as a full range of care services are part of the overall offering.
