Jefferson City, Mo. — Warm summer nights at the State Capitol will come alive this summer with a family-friendly series of movies sponsored for the third year in a row by U.S. Cellular, Jefferson City Parks and Recreation, the Missouri River Regional Library and the Downtown Jefferson City Association. The various pre-show activities begin at 7:30 on the evenings of June 11, July 16 and August 6, and the “Stars Under the Stars” movies start at dusk (approximately 8:30 p.m.).
The movies will be shown on the South Capitol Lawn and are open to all ages. Families are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs, along with food and drink (alcohol is not permitted) and enjoy a fun summer evening at the movies.
During the June 11th event, local residents will have the opportunity to play tee-ball or wiffle ball at the U.S. Cellular tent and can register to win a pair of tickets to the Cardinals vs. Cubs game on August 15. And, for the showing of “The Wizard of Oz” on July 16, Elaine Horn, a famous young Judy Garland impersonator from California, will be attending the event as “Dorothy” to visit with the children and take photos, courtesy of U.S. Cellular and Jefferson City Parks and Recreation.
“This is a great opportunity for everyone in the city to connect and enjoy a little bit of Hollywood for free,” said Nathan Waddell, director of sales for U.S. Cellular in Missouri. “We believe relationships are important and our associates enjoy the sense of community that comes with bringing their neighbors, family and friends together to have a good time.”
Below is this summer's movie lineup:
* Friday, June 11: “A League of Their Own”
* Friday, July 16: “The Wizard of Oz”
