Sony Ericsson OpenAPI Program launches with TrackID Charts API and updated WebSDK

Saturday, March 20, 2010

At Mobile World Congress, Sony Ericsson announced our vision for the future of mobile entertainment - ‘Co-creation’ – facilitating the evolving needs of consumers, content publishers and developers, creating a community and a movement where they come together to personalise, share and continuously evolve and co-create mobile content.

The Sony Ericsson WebSDK fits perfectly with this vision, since it enables rich applications to be created, shared and reworked using common html, css and javascript skills. Today we launch the latest Beta 1.2 which makes app creation even simpler. We also present our OpenAPI program, which perfectly complements the WebSDK, making it possible to access Sony Ericsson services.

New WebSDK Beta 1.2

Cross-platform development is now even easier with the latest Sony Ericsson WebSDK Beta 1.2 available here. The new version of the tool, based on the increasingly popular PhoneGap framework for development of Web applications across mobile software platforms, contains many new features, a better User Interface and improved performance. Targeted at web and mobile application developers, it enables a single creative effort to make innovative applications for Android, Symbian, and other mobile platforms, with all the power and security of the native platforms but the familiar building blocks of the Web.

Sony Ericsson OpenAPI Program

The OpenAPI program enables developers to access Sony Ericsson’s APIs and content from the company and content partners and build rich features and capabilities into their own applications.
Commencing with the TrackID Charts API, the program will extend to cover more innovations and content including the recently announced Creations™ service.

We have created a developer portal for the OpenAPI program at api.developer.sonyericsson.com. The portal provides a rich set of services for developers, including documentation, case studies, and reports on how SEMC APIs are being used in developers’ applications.

To use our OpenAPIs, including the TrackID Charts API, simply:

1. Go to api.developer.sonyericsson.com and register
2. Get the API documentation you need right there on the portal
3. Follow the procedure to get up and running

TrackID Charts API

TrackID is a set of services built in to Sony Ericsson phones which allow the user, for example, to identify music and access the charts.

Sony Ericsson’s new TrackID Charts API makes it possible for your app to access the music charts from around the world.

Present the charts how you like, link to local music services, mix in artist and tour dates – it’s up to you! WebSDK Beta 1.2 includes a sample TrackID application – it lists the charts and lets you play the music in Spotify; get WebSDK 1.2 Beta here. The application is also documented at the SEMC OpenAPI developer portal.
