Ovi Maps Ultimate Routes

Thursday, April 15, 2010

GLOBAL – There’s a lot you can do with free walk and drive navigation. But what about creating 12 of the most scenic routes, in 12 of the most scenic countries in the world. That’s what some folks at Nokia have been busy doing recently, interviewing 12,750 people to find out what routes they should be plotting on their Nokia N97 mini. They focussed on finding out from locals what the most important, or worth seeing features and attractions of each country. The result? Some monumental routes to check out (using Ovi Maps, of course) should you fancy a road trip. Read on after the jump to find out what came out tops.

The French recommend that folk visit Les ales de Glénan with 53 per cent of the 1,000 French people interviewed recommending it as a top site. Anyone who’s been to Mont Saint-Michel in Normandy will agree with the 63 per cent of locals who believe it to be the most impressive natural landscape France has to offer.

The Amalfi Coast and Cinque Terre national park came out tops for the Italians whilst down under the Australians assembled a route from Cairns to Perth (that’s one seriously long road trip) picking up all the top sites along the way.

The Ovi Maps team have taken the data gathered by research firm ICM and plotted routes for each of the 12 countries, taking in all the major attractions recommended by locals. Check out the full list, including routes for Spain, Brazil, China, Russia, Singapore, India, Mexico, Saudi Arabia and the United States.

Of course, this is all hugely relevant now with the progress Ovi Maps has made over the past few months. With millions of users globally now using the service, and additional apps and services constantly being added, the future of location awareness is here right now. Using your device to navigate the best your chosen holiday destination is easier (and, at free, much cheaper) than ever before. Pre-load maps for your chosen destination before you leave and you’ll swerve any foreign data charges. You can also benefit from the additional location aware services and information and of course Michelin and Lonely Planet guides right on your device.

Pedestrian navigation is now available for 74 countries and there are 6,000 3D landmarks covering 200 cities around the world. Ovi Maps itself covers and astonishing 180 countries around the world.
