A source who received a myTouch Slide handset ahead of its official schedule has confirmed its specs recently. The HTC-made phone will be offered exclusively at T-Mobile and is now reported to officially carry the myTouch 3G Slide name. While a launch date hasn't been confirmed, it is expected the device will launch in May.
Software was still in beta mode, but the hardware of the devices is final, the source noted. While no spec sheets were distributed with the devices, the source says the touchscreen is comparable to that of an iPhone 3GS in size, at about 3.5 inches but couldn't tell whether it was AMOLED. The camera is a 5-megapixel unit and has LED flash and autofocus.
The processor, meanwhile, is a 600MHz ARM11 unit, while RAM is set at 512MB. There is the same amount of storage space onboard, and the device is expected to be bundled with an 8GB microSDHC memory card. Android 2.1 is preloaded overlaid with HTC's new Sense UI, which includes the Leap feature that lets users view all of their home screens at once. Between five and seven home screens can be selected individually. The browser, gallery and maps apps all support multi-touch inputs. Live wallpapers are not supported due to the relatively slow ARM CPU.
Preloaded apps include AppPack, My Account, myTouch Music which is being compared to Pandora, Quick Office and Abduction, among other names. Swype is the default virtual keyboard but can be switched to the HTC keyboard or a new Dragon Dictionary. The battery is confirmed to be a 1,300mAh unit.
No word has been given on pricing as of yet.
