WiMAX to remain feasible for at least 10 more years, says Acer chairman

Wednesday, June 2, 2010

In response to worries about the outlook of WiMAX, chairman JT Wang for both Acer and the Taipei Computer Association (TCA) has stressed that there is still large room for development in terms of diversity of technology and spatial coverage and therefore WiMAX is worth continued efforts for at least 10 years.

As WiMAX and LTE have many infrastructure technology standards in common, WiMAX operators in Taiwan will have competitive advantages in the future global 4G market, Wang said.

According to the Chinese-language newspaper Commercial Times, TCA has upward adjusted its projection of Taiwan's WiMAX hardware production value for 2010 from NT$15.0 billion (US$469 million) to NT$17.4 billion.
