AT&T Government Solutions, a business unit of AT&T (NYSE: T), is the first Networx contract holder to receive Authority to Operate (ATO) from the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) for implementation of Managed Trusted IP Services (MTIPS).
Networx is a contract vehicle that allows AT&T to provide a full range of communications services to federal government agencies. MTIPS is an offering under the Networx Universal and Enterprise contracts that allows federal agencies to connect to the Internet via secure IP portals in full compliance with the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Trusted Internet Connections (TIC) initiative. Beyond compliance, AT&T’s MTIPS offering leverages a portfolio of standard security services to provide greater network security for mission-sensitive information while reducing the number of agency vulnerabilities by using fewer external Internet connections.
“The scope and scale of Networx allows AT&T to offer enhanced, innovative technology and services to the Federal Government with the power to transform the way government operates and interacts with citizens,” said Don Herring, Senior Vice President, AT&T Government Solutions, AT&T Global Services. “AT&T’s MTIPS solution is a means to achieve this transformation by enhancing the security of the network infrastructure.”
The ATO approval from GSA enables AT&T Government Solutions to implement and activate MTIPS for federal government agencies. AT&T Government Solutions has disclosed MTIPS task orders with the Federal Trade Commission and the Environmental Protection Agency.
“AT&T’s cloud based approach to cybersecurity is the foundation for MTIPS,” said Ed Amoroso, Chief Security Officer, AT&T, Inc. “We use the cloud to proactively detect and diffuse security threats at the ‘street corner’ as opposed to the ‘front door’ of a federal agency – thereby minimizing the risk of a cyber attack. With AT&T’s MTIPS solution, we can help agencies protect their network with the advance notice necessary to counter the threats.”
The standard MTIPS implementation encompasses Intrusion Detection and Protection Services, Managed Firewall Services, Anti-Virus Management and E-Mail Scanning, all provided by AT&T and hosted at diverse, secure AT&T facilities. Agencies can create a more comprehensive cybsersecurity solution by incorporating other existing Networx security services with MTIPS, such as Incident Response, Vulnerability Scanning, and Managed E-Authentication.
“MTIPS can enable federal agencies to augment their network defenses against cyber attacks,” said Jeff Mohan, Executive Director, Networx Program Office, AT&T Government Solutions. “We have already seen extremely strong interest in our MTIPS service from federal agencies. MTIPS is an opportunity for federal agencies to transform their business operations via Networx with enhanced cybersecurity.”
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) previously provided AT&T with formal notification indicating AT&T’s MTIPS solution meets all DHS requirements for operation of a Trusted Internet Connections Access Provider, certifying the company’s TIC/MTIPS solution is fully compliant with OMB’s TIC requirements. AT&T’s MTIPS also passed GSA’s Certification & Accreditation (C&A).
