IMS is a complex solution that will replace all existing communication networks in the future. The IMS solution has a packet-switched network as its core and implements transmission of different types of traffic (voice, multimedia, and video). At the start, all types of traffic are converted into IP, no matter the type of "last mile" used (fixed or mobile), after which the system implements routing of all traffic flow.
A number of tests will be implemented on the IMS network. The final decision regarding construction of a commercial All-IP network will be determined based on test results. The tests will include interconnection tests (CSCF) with subscriber access equipment of the mobile network, fixed network, and broadband data transmission network. Another test will focus on the functionality of the joint operation between Huawei' s IMS network and equipment from other manufacturers.
"For our company, it is important that IMS can manage traffic notwithstanding of the types of subscriber devices and the 'last mile' adopted. Thanks to this IMS solution, Uralsvyazinform may achieve effective convergence of the existing fixed, mobile and data transmission networks. Thus, on the one hand, the company may substantially reduce its operating expenses by replacing its outdated multi-type equipment for a unified solution. On the other hand, IMS brings additional revenue by offering convergent new generation services to the subscribers,"said Mikhail Krimskiy, chief deputy of the CEO of OJSC, Uralsvyazinform.
"This IMS project, implemented in cooperation with Uralsvyazinform, is the largest project of this kind ever to be implemented in Russia and CIS. We are proud of the confidence put in our company by OJSC , Uralsvyazinvest. Successful implementation of this project will mark a new stage in the transition of operators to convergent services,"said Wang Kexiang, president of Huawei Russia.
In order to implement this project Huawei plans to start production of IMS equipment in its own production facility in Ufa, Russia.
