Vibo Telecom expects break-even operations in 4Q10, says chairman

Friday, June 18, 2010

Vibo Telecom, one of the five 3G mobile telecom carriers in Taiwan, expects to attain monthly break-even operations in the fourth quarter of 2010, according to company chairman Rock Hsu at the company's 2010 shareholders meeting on June 17.

Vibo aims to increase the number of its subscribers to two million at the end of 2010, an increment of 500,000 from the end of 2009, company president Chang Feng-hsiung indicated.

While Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan Mobile and Far EasTone Telecommunications, the three largest 3G operators, have cooperated with Apple to sell iPhones which are expected to help them increase sales of value-added services, Vibo will not follow suit for the time being, Chang pointed out. This is because Apple requires a minimum procurement volume of 300,000 iPhones, equivalent to NT$7.5 billion (US$232 million), too much for Vibo. iPhone 4 will come into the Taiwan market in the third quarter of 2010, Chang analyzed.
