ATLANTA --Sprint (NYSE: S) announced that it will recognize two Atlanta non-profit organizations that are making differences in the community through the 2010 Sprint Local Grant Program. Now in its second year, the program provides $25,000 Sprint Foundation grants to two Atlanta 501(c)3 organizations to support programs that provide a meaningful impact in Sprint's philanthropic focus areas of youth development (including mentoring, leadership and academic achievement), arts and culture, and environmental stewardship.
Nominations for the Sprint Local Grant Program will be accepted between 10 a.m. EDT on Tuesday, June 15, and 6 p.m. EDT on Friday, July 30, at www.sprint.com/localgiving. The two selected organizations will be notified by mid September, and the grants will be awarded by the end of the year. Eligible organizations must be located in the Atlanta area (Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, Coweta, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Forsyth, Fulton, Gwinnett, Henry, Paulding and Rockdale Counties). "Non-profit organizations play a vital role in any thriving community, and the Sprint Local Grant Program allows us to help these non-profits do what they do best - serve the people of Atlanta," said Debby Ballard, Sprint's director of Community Affairs. "By partnering together in this way, Sprint and community organizations can truly make an impact where it is needed most."
In 2009, Sprint awarded $25,000 Sprint Foundation grants to Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta and Imagine It! Children's Museum of Atlanta through the Sprint Local Grant Program.
