Saturday, March 27, 2010

Tender includes delivery of TETRA digital radio terminals including the MTP850FuG, accessories and services .

IDSTEIN, Germany – The Enterprise Mobility Solutions business of Motorola, Inc (NYSE: MOT), world leader in the development and deployment of mission critical communications solutions, announced that it has won the tender issued by the Gebäudemanagement Schleswig-Holstein (GMSH), the procurement office of the German federal state of Schleswig-Holstein to supply TETRA digital radio solutions for its public safety services.

Within this frame agreement Motorola will supply approximately over 4,500 TETRA digital two-way radios, including accessories and services over the next four years. The contract includes 3,000 MTP850FuG TETRA portables as well as 1,500 MTM800E TETRA mobile terminals to public safety personnel across the region. Based on the successful Motorola MTP850 terminal, the new MTP850FuG includes all the core features of a regular MTP850, such as secure, reliable voice and data communications – but adds features to meet the demanding standards and requirements of the German public safety authorities.

The key safety features incorporated into the MTP850FuG are:
· End-to-end encryption compliant with Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) standards
· BOS (Behörden und Organisationen mit Sicherheitsaufgaben - German public safety authorities) compliant side connector
· Transmission Power of up to 1.8 Watts for extended coverage, especially in Direct Mode (DMO) operation
· FMS (Funk-Melde-System) status application and acoustic receipt function, for fast and efficient communications
· A ‘Man Down’ feature that sends an alert to the dispatcher if the radio does not move in a given period of time or tilts past a defined angle

These and other features help end-users to migrate easily from their existing analogue to the new TETRA digital radio. The rugged terminals offer public safety users an easy-to-use interface, which has been developed specifically to ensure the devices are intuitive to operate and therefore meet the needs of the mission critical end-user.

"Motorola has won the tender because they were the best in fulfilling the extensive tender requirements. Especially the usability of their TETRA handhelds have convinced us," Lars Ohse, division director, GMSH, Schleswig-Holstein.

As part of the agreement, Motorola will also supply its Integrated Terminal Management (iTM) Solution which will allow Schleswig-Holstein to remotely manage the software and configurations of every radio terminal from a central location. The iTM remote programming system, improves the speed and reliability with which software updates can be carried out contributing to end-user safety as well as efficient management and security of the terminals.

"We are delighted that the German state of Schleswig-Holstein has opted for Motorola's TETRA digital radio solutions," says Manuel Torres, corporate vice president and general manager, Motorola Enterprise Mobility Solutions Business, EMEA. "Schleswig-Holstein follows other German federal states including Berlin and Thuringia in adopting our TETRA radio standards that will ensure that their emergency services are able to respond to mission critical situations quickly and effectively."

The Motorola TETRA portfolio includes infrastructure solutions, terminals, applications and services which are now used in more than 90 countries worldwide. To date, the company has been able to maintain its leading position in the sector of TETRA digital radio solutions. The rugged, intuitively operated products from Motorola already undergo extensive tests during the development phase in order to ensure high quality and reliable handling even under extreme conditions.
