Gresso concept of personalization. A new step forward in mobile industry.

Thursday, May 6, 2010

Personalization is the ultimate expression of luxury. It is also the elemental link in the relationship between a customer and brand, between expectations and service. It is to strengthen this link and to offer a unique experience to its clientele that Gresso has developed a concept of personalization that is totally new in mobile industry, a world first in fact.

Gresso is giving customers the opportunity to create their own mobile phone. This is a phone that will forge an instant and privileged relationship between designer and brand and one that, at the end of the creative process, will assert its unique character. Participating in the creation of such a personal object and playing an active role in determining its final aspect will be an unforgettable experience. In this sense, Gresso is placing the customer right at the centre of the process and thereby determining the shape of tomorrow’s mobile industry.

Almost 40 combinations

It is only due to a special design of a phone case that the concept of personalization has been brought to life. In its concern to preserve the aesthetic harmony of the whole and not wanting to make an impact with tens of combinations, though this would be technically possible, Gresso opted for a carefully planned personalization system. For this reason, personalization is based on three elements: case of special titanium alloy with high-tech ceramic covering, various types of leather decoration, keyboard design - absolutely flat or made of polished steel. Engraving the owner’s initials or an inscription on the inside of the device makes the ultimate stage of Gresso personalization service. In total, there are almost 40 combinations available from which to create an exceptional mobile phone that mirrors the owner’s personality.

The personalized phone can be envisaged and designed by the future buyer in the interactive “Online Boutique”on Gresso official website – www.gresso.com – or in the authorized dealers’ stores. It then enters its production cycle in Switzerland and will be delivered within 14 days, as agreed on beforehand with the client.

The price of the collection starts from US$2200.

Gresso in the USA

Residents of the US Southeastern coast will soon be able to enjoy the new service of Gresso. In one of the most respectable cities in the world, Miami, the first office of the company (www.gresso.miamiresidence.com) in the United States will be opened on the 18th March.

Limited Collection of Gresso Grand Monaco Cell Phones for Ladies

A Swiss manufacturer of luxury mobile phones, Gresso, introduces a limited collection of Grand Monaco cell phones. The collection is specially created for Ladies.

The collection is an embodiment of elegance, luxury and harmony.

With the efforts of Gresso designers and engineers, each detail of the device is full of passion and power, beauty and sophistication. Apparently, the new Grand Monaco collection is designed for strong, self-confident women of good taste.

A special feature of the new collection is the fashion of red alligator skin. It is no secret that crocodile skin is well known to be incredibly beautiful and low-wearing. It was used for making armor suits, today it is widely used for making luxuries. Once you just touch a thing made of crocodile skin, you’ll never want to “leave hold” of it. Gresso designers chose only the best types of alligator skin being carefully processed within a full cycle.

As to all the rest, the design remains unchanged. The device casing is manufactured of a ultrastrong and ultralight titanium alloy covered with several layers of high-tech ceramics with special micro particles that burnished the phone with a splendid shine. The display is framed with a 42K hand polished sapphire crystal, while the battery cover is fixed with a magnetic Smart Lock.

The true pride of Grand Monaco collection is the keyboard with the keys made of steel using ultra-precision turning technology. This technology ensures a superlative degree of precision of each detail. The keyboard surface is scratch-proof and highly resistant to other mechanical damages.

The technical features of the device also include the availability of a camera, the support for WAP/GPRS/Bluetooth/SMS/MMS/e-mail/EDGE/Java, a personal organizer.

Ladies’ collection of Gresso Grand Monaco phones is an ideal gift for your beloved.

You can place your order on the company’s official website – www.gresso.com or in official dealers’ offices.

Price of the model – 2800$.

Grand Wind Skeleton Collection. Gresso Makes its Watches Debut

Gresso Grand Wind Skeleton Collection – Door-Opener to Innovative Design in Horology.

Gresso, primarily known as a manufacturer of high-tech luxury mobile phones, introduced at BASELWORLD 2010 its first watch collection - Grand Wind Skeleton.

Provocative and Charismatic Design

Superaccurate movement and advanced technologies make the essential peculiarities of Grand Wind Skeleton.

It's been for 3 years that the design and movement have been developed. In the pursuit of an ideal realization, over 100 prototypes have been used.

Gresso designers and engineers have introduced an absolutely original concept of watches as such through an artful combination of expressive appearance and innovative interior decoration. At the same time, they did not fail to take the company’s stylistic traditions into account, so they endowed the reverse side of the watches with brilliance and originality.

The Grand Wind Skeleton watch has an elegant 45-mm large and 12-mm high case made of 18K gold and accentuate the charismatic design of the watch. In designing the watchcase, Gresso engineers used carbon, a light and incredibly strong material. Carbon is 5 times lighter than steel and 2 times lighter than aluminum, but it equals these metals in strength. Until recently, this material has been used in space industry only.

Grand Wind Skeleton – Innovations in Haute Horology

The name Grand Wind Skeleton is in close connection with the term 'self-winding'. This is what completes the creative idea of the collection - massive rotor of 18K gold is situated on the front of the watch face. A polished silicon plate 0,5 mm height partitions the rotor off the movement. To bring this module to life Gresso had to develop its own movement Gresso G1 based on ETA 2671. Its frequency is 28 800 semi-vibrations per hour, and the power reserve of the watch makes 38 hours.

The skeletonized movement is visible from both the external and the internal side of the watch case. The main time marking of the watch dial represents two intersecting circles. Combined with the carbon inlays, they form a molded case, which accentuates the technocratic style of the watch even more.

The bezel of the model is set off with the engraved Roman numerals of XII and VI in the positions of 12 and 6 o’clock, respectively.

Two windows on the face side of the watch are opposed to two windows on the back side thereof, with watch wheels engraved in it. Through one of the windows, you can have a view of the movement operating, while in the other window you can see the second hand made in form of a three-blade propeller. This innovative solution is a part of the uncommon movement used in the Grand Wind Skeleton watches to indicate seconds.

The aesthetic perfection is completed by the movement details polished manually and coated with DLC (diamond-like carbon). The movement details are visible through the sapphire crystals represented here in the all-time highest amount of 5 and with the total karatage of 35. The movement is protected by a specially designed shockproof system.

The back cover is made of 18K gold and tightly fastened with 6 titanium screws. The strap is made of crocodile leather and furnished with deployment buckle coated with black DLC.

The company’s logo and the individual number of each watch are engraved on the back cover of the watch case. The model is produced in a limited edition: 100 watches cased in rose gold and 100 watches cased in white gold.

The Grand Wind Skeleton collection is an aesthetic realization of the avant-garde philosophy. Its vivid style and design reflect the quintessence of permanent quest for perfection, which is so typical for Gresso.

Translate the real world with Google Goggles

Traveling to another country can be an amazing experience. The opportunity to immerse yourself in a different culture can give you a new perspective. However, it can be hard to fully enjoy the experience if you do not understand the local language. For example, ordering food from a menu you can not read can be an adventure. Today we are introducing a new feature of Google Goggles that will prove useful to travelers and monoglots everywhere: Goggles translation.

Here’s how it works:

* Point your phone at a word or phrase. Use the region of interest button to draw a box around specific words
* Press the shutter button
* If Goggles recognizes the text, it will give you the option to translate
* Press the translate button to select the source and destination languages.

Google Goggles in action (click images to see large version)

The first Goggles translation prototype was unveiled earlier this year at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona and could only recognize German text. Today Goggles can read English, French, Italian, German and Spanish and can translate to many more languages. We are hard at work extending our recognition capabilities to other Latin-based languages. Our goal is to eventually read non-Latin languages (such as Chinese, Hindi and Arabic) as well.

Every new release of Google Goggles contains at least one new feature and a large number of improvements to our existing functionality. In addition to translation, Goggles v1.1 features improved barcode recognition, a larger corpus of artwork, recognition of many more products and logos, an improved user interface, and the ability to initiate visual searches using images in your phone’s photo gallery.

Computer vision is a hard problem. While we are excited about Goggles v1.1, we know that there are many images that we cannot yet recognize. The Google Goggles team is working on solving the technical challenges required to make computers see. We hope you are as excited as we are about the possibilities of visual search.

Google Goggles v1.1 is available on devices running Android 1.6 and higher. To download, please scan the QR code below or go to the Android Market app on your phone and search for “Google Goggles”. See our help center for more information.

RIM Chokes on Its iPad Killer

NEW YORK -- Add Research In Motion(RIMM) to the list of tech shops rethinking its tablet strategy.

The BlackBerry maker had hoped to offer a Google(GOOG) Android-powered tablet later this year, but has now backed off the plan, says Rodman Renshaw analyst Ashok Kumar, who has been monitoring the supplier and manufacturing partners.

The so-called BlackPad RIM tablet -- first reported by BlackBerry Leaks -- is being pushed out to early next year, says Kumar.

The move marks the third time in two weeks that a would-be tablet maker has shelved product preparations aimed at challenging the Apple(AAPL) iPad. Last week, Hewlett-Packard(HPQ) pulled the plug on its Slate tablet and Microsoft(MSFT) reportedly withdrew plans for the Courier device. Both tablets had been due to arrive this year, dealing Microsoft a major setback in its flailing mobile effort.

"Everyone is taking a second look at that product roadmap," says Kumar, referring to tablets. "It has to compare favorably to the iPad."

RIM is expected to be designing its tablet for the consumer market -- not specifically to its core business users. As it stands now, says Kumar, RIM has enlisted Quanta, Taiwan's huge contract manufacturer, to build the device. And instead of using Google's Android software, RIM has decided to go with its own BlackBerry operating system, presumably the one featured at the company's developers' conference last week.

The "BlackPad" is also slated to use Marvell's(MRVL) Armada processor, a significant supplier choice that once again has Intel(INTC) sitting outside the tablet market.

Apple Hits the Magic Million iPad Tally

The Apple iPad has struck a chord with gadget fans who have now scooped up more than one million iPads in the first month of sales. The initial enthusiasm for the device challenges assumptions about whether people would buy an in-between mobile device.

The iPad sets an emerging industry standard of sorts in areas like long battery life, a range of prices from $500 to $830 and a diminutive operating system geared toward media consumption and not computing.

Would-be rivals need to stack up favorably with those features or find an edge that would help set the device apart from the iPad. RIM's decision to go with its own operating system suggests that it will tap some of its email-specialist strength in the upcoming tablet wars.

Clearwire Reports Strong First Quarter 2010 Results

* Total Ending Subscribers of 971,000, Up 94% Year Over Year
* Total Net Subscriber Additions of 283,000 - Greater than Full Year 2009
* Wholesale Subscriber Base Triples During the First Quarter 2010
* First Quarter Revenue of $107 Million - Up 72% Year Over Year
* Company Surpasses 50 million People Covered By Its Networks
* 4G WiMAX Smartphones By Samsung and HTC Expected to be Available Before End of 2010

KIRKLAND, Wash. --Clearwire Corporation (NASDAQ: CLWR), a leading provider of wireless broadband services, reported its unaudited condensed consolidated financial and operating results for the first quarter of 2010.

"Customer demand for 4G services is truly making 2010 the year of mobile broadband, as always-on true mobile broadband keeps people connected to the information, services and applications that matter most," said Bill Morrow, CEO of Clearwire. "With record breaking subscriber growth, a robust wholesale 'network of networks' approach to 4G, and customer usage that far surpasses anything seen on 3G networks today, Clearwire is standing at the forefront of the next evolution in telecommunications and technology."

Clearwire ended the first quarter with 971,000 total subscribers consisting of 814,000 retail subscribers and 157,000 wholesale subscribers. During the first quarter 2010 Clearwire added 283,000 net new subscriber additions including 172,000 retail additions and 111,000 wholesale additions. Greater than one-third of our wholesale subscribers consist of subscribers on dual mode devices that reside outside of our currently launched markets, but for whom we receive monthly recurring revenue.

Revenue for the first quarter 2010 was $106.7 million, a 72% increase over first quarter 2009 revenue of $62.1 million and a 33% increase over fourth quarter 2009 revenue of $79.9 million. Retail average revenue per subscriber (ARPU) was $42.77 in the first quarter 2010. Retail ARPU in the first quarter includes the positive impact of $1.22 related to a prior period adjustment to account for incentive discounts over the lives of customer contracts. Without this adjustment first quarter ARPU was $41.55.

Retail cost per gross subscriber addition (CPGA) improved to $439 in the first quarter 2010, down from $624 in the fourth quarter 2009. The decline in CPGA is largely a function of greater gross additions, better overall marketing efficiencies and fewer market launches.

Retail monthly churn also improved to 3.0% in the first quarter 2010 compared to 3.6% in fourth quarter 2009. During the first quarter, the Company completed the conversion of the Hawaii, Seattle and Carolina markets to its 4G network, and the subscriber churn rate in the non-conversion markets was 2.7%.

The first quarter 2010 net loss attributable to Clearwire was ($94.1) million, or ($0.47) per basic share, as compared with the fourth quarter 2009 net loss attributable to Clearwire of ($98.7) million, or ($0.55) per basic share. The first quarter 2009 net loss attributable to Clearwire was ($71.1) million or ($0.37) per basic share.

The first quarter 2010 adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization and non-cash expenses related to capital assets (adjusted EBITDA) loss was ($251.6) million, an improvement from fourth quarter 2009 adjusted EBITDA loss of ($295.7) million. The adjusted EBITDA loss for the first quarter 2009 was ($144.0) million.

2010 Business Outlook

Clearwire continues to expect to cover up to 120 million people with its 4G network by the end of 2010. Within this footprint, services will be offered under both the CLEAR(R) brand name, and those of the Company's strategic wholesale providers which will vary across individual markets.

The Company also continues to expect that total subscriber levels will triple in 2010 from the end of 2009 levels and that it will end 2010 with more than 2 million total subscribers. The Company expects average 2010 retail CPGA to be in the mid $500's and consistent with the average CPGA for 2009, while average retail ARPU is now expected to remain above $41.00 for 2010.

The timing and extent of our future plans are subject to a number of conditions, including the performance in our launched markets and access to additional funding. The Company currently expects to have full year 2010 net cash utilization between $2.8 billion and $3.2 billion.

In recent weeks, the Company has expanded its 4G mobile broadband network service area with five new markets covering nearly five million people, including Houston, TX in March, and earlier this week in Harrisburg, Reading, Lancaster and York, PA.

Clearwire also today announced plans to launch 4G mobile broadband service in 19 additional cities this summer, including previously announced markets Kansas City, KS; St. Louis, MO; Salt Lake City, UT, and the core area of Washington, D.C. and newly announced markets Nashville, TN; Daytona, Orlando and Tampa, FL; Rochester and Syracuse, NY; Merced, Modesto, Stockton, and Visalia, CA; Wilmington, DE; Grand Rapids, MI; Eugene, OR; and Yakima and Tri-Cities, WA.

In addition, the Company reiterated its plans to launch Clearwire's 4G network in other major markets across the country by the end of 2010, including New York City, Los Angeles, Boston, Denver, Minneapolis, the San Francisco Bay Area, Miami, Cincinnati, Cleveland and Pittsburgh.

The Company also expects to launch two WiMAX smartphones by the end of 2010. From Samsung, an Android-based 3G/4G/WiFi device optimized for heavy video and video communications use, and a 3G/4G/WiFi enabled phone from HTC.

Other Results of Operations

Cost of goods and services and network costs for the first quarter, 2010 increased 96% to $144.6 million compared to $73.6 million for the first quarter 2009. This increase is due to increased tower lease and backhaul expenses resulting from the launch of 4G markets.

Selling, General and Administrative (SG&A) expense for the first quarter 2010 increased 106% to $223.8 million compared to $108.5 million for the first quarter 2009. The increase is primarily due to higher sales and marketing and customer care expenses in support of the launch of new markets, as well as additional resources, headcount and shared services that we have utilized as we continue to build and launch our 4G markets. Employee headcount at March 31, 2010 increased to approximately 3,595 compared to 2,015 employees at March 31, 2009.

Higher network expansion activities led to an increase in Capital Expenditures (CapEx) to $690 million in the first quarter 2010 from CapEx of $112 million for the first quarter 2009. Net cash spending, including operating activities, capital expenditures and spectrum purchases; net of proceeds from financing activities, was $842 million. We ended the first quarter of 2010 with cash and investments of approximately $3.1 billion invested primarily in U.S. Treasury securities.

The BlackBerry Tablet Is Real

When the Apple iPad released, many wondered who would be next. We knew of HP and a handful of others, but after initial reviews they didn't pair up to the iPad. Then there were rumors of Research In Motion ordering 8.9" display screens from Hon Hai. Many started wondering if RIM could possibly be working on a tablet.

We've received word from a connect that RIM is in fact working on a tablet. We do not have many details at the time, but we have been told that it will be smaller and thinner than the iPad. The BlackBerry tablet also goes by the codename: 'BlackPad' or possibly could be what Bla1ze from CrackBerry tells us, 'Cobalt'. The tablet will have full BlackBerry OS compatibility and functionality (note, we didn't say what kind of OS, lol). It is not set to release this year, and going by how long RIM takes to announce anything, it wouldn't surprise us if we don't see the 'BlackPad' until WES 2011 (unless it gets leaked first).

Of course you have to take our word on all of this. Remember though, we were the first to tell you about Evolved EDGE, the Pearl coming with a T9 keyboard, the power point presenter 'black-box', that we'd soon see a clamshell full-qwerty flip phone, and the list could continue on. The point is, we've presented details on things months before any other details arrive. We are confident that we'll see more info on a BlackBerry tablet in the near future, but until then the rumors and speculations will continue.

Are you interested in a BlackBerry tablet? Will you be buying one? We think if done correctly, a BlackBerry tablet could make for a very new and unique experience, one entirely new just like the slider-phone.

*NOTE* The image used in this article is a rendition of what a BlackBerry tablet could look like. Please do not say "Hey, that's just an iPad with BlackBerry written on it", because you're right, and it's obvious.

Google Nexus One at Phones 4U on May 7

The Google Nexus One will be available at Phones 4U from Friday (May 7) via its retail stores and website. It follows Vodafone in stocking the device in the UK.

The device will be available from the retailer for free from £35 per month on a 24-month contract, offering 600 minutes, unlimited texts, 1GB of data and unlimited Wi-Fi.

Phones 4U spokesperson Russell Braterman said: "We're really proud to be one of the first mobile retailers to stock Google's Nexus One and we anticipate a rush of customers to be the first to get their hands on the phone."

The big decision to make here is do you get the Nexus One or go for the HTC Desire which is £5 per month cheaper?

The Desire has the added benefits of HTC Sense and the optical track pad but the Google Nexus One will get Google updates straight away.

Now there's a dilemma!

Future looks brighter for British high-techs

Sage Group announced an 11 per cent rise in underlying first-half pre-tax profits today as several of Britain’s leading technology companies reported improved results.

Chipmakers CSR and Wolfson Microelectronics reported stronger first-quarter sales and predicted further growth as demand for mobile phones and other consumer electronics continues to recover.

Software developer Sage said that prudent cost control had helped it to lift pre-tax profits to £177.5 million for the six months to September 30.

Turnover fell by 2 per cent compared with the same period last year to £721.1 million, but the company said that the decline in revenue had slowed compared with the half year to September 2009 amid a growth in subscription revenues and orders for software-related services. It added 127,000 new customers during the period.

Paul Walker, the chief executive, said: “We are pleased to report a good performance for the half, with our organic revenue stabilising and a strong increase in profitability following cost reductions made in 2009.”

Sage expects stronger performance during the rest of the year as customers that delayed expenditure on technology and software projects begin to invest again. “Our customers remain cautious, but the relevance of our products and the compelling nature of our customer support has driven our business in the period,” Mr Walker said.

Sage increased its interim dividend from 2.50p per share to 2.58p per share.

Wolfson Microelectronics defied the seasonal slowdown to increase first-quarter revenue by 13 per cent to $28.5 million compared with $25.2 million last year.

However, the Scottish designer of microchips for mobile phones and digital devices said that pre-tax losses for the period grew to $6.9 million, following a $4.7 million loss in the first quarter of 2009.

Mike Hickey, chief executive, said that Wolfson expects to return to profitability as more of its designs begin to go into production.

Wolfson suffered a blow in 2008 after it lost a contract to supply components for the Apple iPod. However, some of the pain was lessened last year after it was selected by a leading mobile phone manufacturer — believed to be Nokia — to provide some of the technology for its new Windows Mobile handset.

Wolfson said it had launched nine new products in the first quarter, including audio amplifier components for mobile phones and a digital audio hub. It expects revenue to rise in the second quarter to between $30 million and $35 million.

Separately, CSR reported a 115 per cent year-on-year increase in first quarter revenue to $173 million.

The wireless microprocessors maker was boosted by orders for components used in smart phones as consumers increasingly favour touch-screen devices. A rise in the use of GPS and Bluetooth technology in phones, cars and digital cameras has also helped its business.

Joep van Beurden, chief executive, said: “We’ve had a good start to the year with strong first-quarter revenues and robust margins, which positions us well for the year. All our divisions have performed well, reflecting the strength of our new generation products and our increasing diversification.”

Analysts at UBS said of CSR’s and Wolfson’s performance: “These are a solid set of results with strong guidance. Given the recent share performance, we believe expectations were low going into results compared to other semis and following strong execution and customer wins the share should react well.”

Also today, Logica, the Anglo-Dutch computer services company, reported better than expected first quarter revenue of £939 million, down 2 per cent on the same period last year.

The company said it had received £1.1 billion in new orders during the period, down 7 per cent year-on-year.

In February the company said that it did not expect revenue to grow in 2010 after clients cut spending on IT projects, particularly in the Netherlands and the Nordic region. It reiterated its outlook, predicting that revenue would remain flat for the year.

Review of Bluetooth Headset Samsung HM1600

Mobile-review have posted their review of the Bluetooth Headset Samsung HM1600. Here is their final impression.

The headset has no downfalls, I would call it a representative of so called “Main” class, when the functionality goes hand in hand with low price. First, let’s look at the advantages:

* pleasant appearance
* good ergonomics
* comfortable controls and way of wearing
* works with two handsets
* effective noise reduction and automatic volume adjustment

Everything is way too harmonious and too good, which is a negative. I would recommend the company to pay more attention to design as the functionality is already nothing to complain about.

I can absolutely recommend the Samsung HM1600 for purchase. Official pricing is yet unknown, but I believe it’ll be rather attractive (for such a functional gadget).

Nokia and Microsoft debut alliance app

Nokia and Microsoft today unveiled the first application from their alliance announced last August. Microsoft’s messaging client – Microsoft Office Communicator Mobile – will initially be available on Nokia’s ESeries devices running the Symbian platform. Owners of Nokia’s E72 and E52 devices can download the English version today from Nokia’s Ovi store, whilst the companies plan to deliver Communicator Mobile for Nokia pre-installed on select Nokia smartphones in the future and plan to support additional devices, including the recently announced Nokia E5. "Our alliance with Nokia aims to bring the Office productivity experience to the millions of people using Nokia smartphones around the world," said Kirt Debique, general manager at Microsoft, in a statement. "With the arrival of Communicator Mobile for Nokia today, we have a great start to fulfilling our joint vision."

Communicator Mobile enables people to see their colleagues' availability, and click to communicate with them using the best method, from IM to email, text to phone call. The names and status of colleagues are embedded directly into the devices' contacts application, enabling people to update their own presence, start and join instant messaging sessions, and begin calls directly from the contact card. "It meets all of the requirements for enterprise: cost effective to implement, secure, familiar and reliable,” claimed Ukko Lappalainen, VP at Nokia. “We have hundreds of engineers across both companies working on the alliance and this is just the tip of the iceberg,” Kai Oistamo, the head of Nokia’s device division, said in an interview with Bloomberg. He declined to comment specifically on the next products from the companies. A Bloomberg report added that an earlier, Java-based version of the Communicator for Nokia handsets is “really not comparable” in usability and functions to the new version, which is more integrated with the Symbian platform, according to a Nokia spokesperson.

Customers can create a number of virtual video meeting rooms according to their license terms, make online room reservations with real-time status display in the public calendar and initiate either an instant peer-to-peer video call or a click-away video conference for up to six participants. This feature is available both for internal and external communications and requires a simple browser plug-in.

Thanks to the integrated Send&Save(TM) technology, organizations can solve a major headache associated with the fact that email remains the main business communication tool. Correspondence is usually dispersed among user mailboxes without proper archiving and sharing, thus leaving no significant footprint after employee dismissal. The new feature duplicates email in the intranet, stores messages in dedicated discussions with shared user access rights and indexes it for the D.I.G. enterprise search engine.

Security above all

Bitrix Intranet Portal 9.0 makes a huge step forward in security with the improvement of the integrated PRO+PRO(TM) security framework, which goes far beyond traditional intranet protection. Thanks to the new anti-virus module, the product prevents malicious code distribution to end users and provides both detection and disinfection capabilities for automatic purging of infected code. In combination with embedded backup and integrity control, the web anti-virus dramatically amplifies the overall product security, minimizes downtime, and ensures industry-leading business continuity and reputation protection.

Business process management

Confirming its status as a technological pioneer in Enterprise 2.0 business process management, Bitrix has added a number of important enhancements to this module.

Now, a process can be initiated with regards to a document or a routine activity, owners can modify the process at any stage of its implementation, users can receive assignments directly to their calendars and tasks as well as receive notifications via instant messenger or e-mail. The business processes visual constructor received new functions like issue escalation and decision-making timeout, while the product is now equipped with additional templates for typical activity like business trips and vacation request handling.

Last but not least

Bitrix Intranet Portal 9.0 experienced several other enhancements spearheading the evolving Enterprise 2.0 market and driven by user demand. The product enables automatic visual representation of organization's structure. The user interface was endowed with extended tooltips when browsing employee profiles. The workgroups appearance has changed, offering intuitive navigation and customization with support of tags and tag-based search.

Davenport, Washington, Receives Boost In 3G Wireless Coverage With New Cell Site From Largest U.S. Carrier; Verizon Wireless

Residents, Businesses, Travelers in Davenport benefit from new connectivity.

BELLEVUE, WA — Residents, businesses, and visitors to Davenport in Eastern Washington, are enjoying improved wireless service thanks to a new Verizon Wireless cell site. The extension of wireless coverage also impacts travelers on outlying roads beyond Davenport including state route 28 and U.S. Highway 2. The upgrade improves voice call quality and access to the Web, e-mail, text and picture messaging, plus music and video.

This network enhancement is part of Verizon Wireless’ consistent, aggressive multi-billion dollar network investment each year to stay ahead of the growing demand for the company’s voice and data services. Verizon Wireless spent $71 million to enhance services and coverage in Washington during 2009. The company has invested $907 million in Washington and more than $59 billion nationally, since it was formed in 2000. The result is the nation’s largest, most reliable 3G network that powers services such as Mobile Broadband and Mobile Email. Businesses of any size can tap into the power of Mobile Broadband, enabling users to connect to the Internet wirelessly while on the go to download music over-the-air and access e-mail or corporate data. For example, customers can download a 1 megabyte e-mail attachment – the equivalent of a small PowerPoint® presentation or a large PDF file – in about eight seconds and upload the same-sized file in less than 13 seconds.

Small business owners interested in Mobile Broadband, and other wireless solutions, can visit http://smallbusiness.vzw.com where they will find:

* An online forum to share experiences and connect with other business owners
* Access to Small Business Specialists in each Verizon Wireless store
* Discounts and promotions to help businesses stretch their budgets
* Summaries of mobile solutions like e-mail, wireless Internet and Push to Talk service
* 24/7 tech support

Verizon Wireless tests its network and those of its competitors to ensure the Verizon Wireless network remains the nation's most reliable. Nationally, Verizon Wireless' real-life test men and women drive 100 specially equipped vehicles almost 1,000,000 miles annually on Interstate, U.S. and state highways, as well as major roads and surface streets in high-population areas, based upon U.S. Census counts, to determine if voice calls and data connections are successful on the first attempt and stay connected. Vehicles are equipped with computers that automatically make more than 3.5 million voice call attempts and more than 19 million data tests annually on Verizon Wireless' network and the networks of other carriers.
