Mobile phone components manufacturer Foxconn eliminating 200-300 jobs

Mobile phone plastic components manufacturer Foxconn announced on Monday that it would eliminate nearly half of its work force this year.
The company’s goal is to merge its factories in Lahti and Hollola. Talks with personnel on the implementation of the job cuts are to begin next week.
Foxconn regularly employs about 600 people in Finland. The company also has production facilities in Hungary.

The company says that the move was prompted by a need to improve efficiency and competitiveness.
Deputy CEO Timo Harju says that Foxconn is changing its business activities to meet the needs of the times. According to Harju, Finland does not have enough of a market for cheap and medium-priced mobile telephones, and that therefore, it is not cost-effective to manufacture parts for such handsets in this country.
"We will focus on more expensive telephones here", Harju says. "We must live on conditions set by the market."
He also says that he does not know if production will be focused on Lahti or Hollola.
Harju adds that the company’s expanded production in Hungary "is not directly related" to the upcoming job cuts in Finland.

The head shop stewards of the two factories were not especially surprised at the move, as there had already been rumours of an impending merger of the factories.
Furthermore, the plan to shut down another components factory, the Perlos plant in Ylöjöärvi, already showed the direction in which things were going in the field.
Jari Pyykkö, head shop steward of the Hollola plant, suspects that the main culprit in the matter is Nokia, which is a major buyer of Foxconn components.
He predicted that the Nokia mobile phone plant in Salo could soon face a similar situation.

Shop stewards and employees at the factories were very disappointed in the way the company announced the cuts.
"A notice came by e-mail - no other contacts", said Sari Toivonen, head shop steward at the Lahti plant.
The shop stewards say that those whose jobs are cut are in a somewhat precarious position, now that the unemployment rate in the Lahti area is already high.

Apple's iPhone 4.0 to support multitasking via Expose-like interface

The upcoming 4.0 reference release of Apple's iPhone OS will deliver new support for running multiple concurrent third party apps, and allow users to switch between them using a windows management mechanism similar to one made popular on the company's Mac OS X operating system.

The technology, detailed by people familiar with Apple's plans for the new firmware, will finally allow users to launch multiple apps in the background and quickly switch between them, as AppleInsider exclusively reported earlier this month. Currently, a running app must be quit when the user returns to the Home screen.

Apple initially avoided an app model supporting multiple apps running at once to help preserve battery life and simplify the user experience. Other platforms that do support the launching of multiple apps, including Android and Windows Mobile, require users to manually manage system resources and kill off performance robbing background tasks.

Today's iPhone 3.x firmware is a fully preemptive multitasking operating system, but it artificially restricts apps (other than specific ones bundled with the system by Apple) from running in the background.

Iconic Expose

Those familiar with the design of iPhone 4.0 said that the user interface will resemble Apple's desktop Expose feature, in that a key combination -- reportedly hitting the Home button twice -- will trigger an expose-like interface that brings up a series of icons representing the currently running apps, allowing users to quickly select the one they want to switch to directly. When a selection is made, the iPhone OS zooms out of the Expose task manager and transitions to that app.

Apple patented the Mac OS X Expose concept in 2005, but the desktop implementation relies upon scaling each application's widows so that they all fit into the screen in a single layer without any overlap.

On the iPhone, scaling down several screen views to fit into the relatively small display would be problematic, and apps never have multiple windows, so the new mechanism currently presents just each app's icon. This renders the feature more similar to the basic Command+Tab app switcher than Expose itself as a desktop feature, but people who've been privy to pre-release builds of the iPhone 4.0 OS say it exhibits several characteristics of the Expose brand.

Two other features seen in pre-release builds of iPhone 4.0 are a global mailbox view and the ability to add individual contacts to the iPhone's home screen, such as a button that will call "Mom" or "Dad" directly. Since the software remains under active development, there's always the possibility that either or both of these enhancements could be chopped in the coming months.

Multiple apps without broken security

Controversy over "multitasking" within the iPhone OS has been brewing ever since Apple launched iPhone 2.0 with the ability to run third party software titles. While often reported as being a technical flaw, the iPhone OS really has no problem with multitasking. The system's phone, SMS, email, iPod, voice recorder, Nike+, and certain other bundled apps can continue in the background while the user launches another app.

However, third party titles obtained from the App Store (including apps from Apple, such as Remote or iDisk) can not be launched at the same time. This is currently only possible after jailbreaking the system, where the iPhone OS security model is compromised via an exploit, allowing the user to launch and run multiple apps.

This also opens the door to both malware and widespread piracy, both of which have been contained by the default security system put in place by Apple. At the same time, Apple's signed app model in iTunes with its mandatory certificate security mechanism means that iPhone users will be able to run multiple apps from the App Store without fear that their software will spy on them, pop up ads, or send out spam.

Other platform vendors do not mandate rigid security for their software libraries, with Android permissively allowing users to install apps from any source, something that will likely serve as a welcome mat for malicious hackers once that platform gains enough visibility.

Notifications pay off on the way to multitasking

Rather than immediately jumping to a multitasking environment for the iPhone, Apple introduced a system-wide push notifications service to enable third party apps to appear to respond to outside updates (such as incoming messages or news alerts) even when they were not actually running.

The company has worked to refine this mechanism before moving to a fully multitasking model, which means that existing apps with notification support won't necessarily need to be launched in the background just to continually poll for updates. Additionally, third party apps that are running in the background will be less likely to drain performance and battery compared to other platforms because the notification mechanism is more efficient than having multiple apps each polling a remote server for their own updates.

For example, RIM's BlackBerry OS has long offered multitasking support for apps but the company only recently opened up its push delivery infrastructure to third party developers. As a result, most of the relatively small library of BlackBerry apps are designed to inefficiently poll a server for information rather than avail themselves of the BlackBerry's famous push messaging features.

Google provides no standard mechanism for system-wide push on Android, forcing developers to all roll their own support. Meanwhile, Microsoft is planning to roll the clock back with Windows Phone 7 later this year, erasing its existing multitasking support for third party apps in Windows Mobile to deliver a model patterned after iPhone 2.0.

Toura, Emerging Leader in Multi-Media Tour Applications, Closes $1.5 Million Seed Round

Creator of the Toura Mobile App Producer - Content Management System Poised to Transform the Industry

The Art Institute of Chicago to Launch a Mobile Application with Toura Later this Spring

NEW YORK -- Toura, a pioneer in multi-media mobile tour applications and creator of the Mobile App Producer, announced that it has secured $1.5 million in seed funding from a group of angel investors. Toura will use the proceeds to continue advancing its technology platform and to fuel business development, operations and marketing efforts in the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

Introduced in 2009, the Toura Mobile App Producer is a Web-based mobile content management system that allows travel and cultural attractions such as museums, galleries, zoos, parks and historic sites to easily create interactive, multimedia "tours" that consumers will be able to download to their smartphones through the various app stores such as iTunes, Android, BlackBerry and Nokia. Toura's rich user experience makes this multimedia tour the first of its kind and the company is continuing to partner with the world's most renowned museums and attractions to expand the platform.

"We founded Toura to help people experience art and culture in a whole new way that is more interactive and personal," said Toura co-founder and CEO, Aaron Radin. "Smartphones and social technologies have enormous potential to enrich our lives. We have developed the most cost-effective and efficient way for museums and tourist attractions to leverage these new technologies to connect and engage with audiences around the world."

Toura lets museums and attractions bring their experiences to a much broader audience by making them accessible from anywhere. By either using their own or a rented smartphone, users can download partner-branded "tours" and get access to multi-media content, more information and connect with others to share their experiences using social applications like Facebook and Twitter. To see an example of how Toura works, visit http://www.toura.com/overview.

Toura's business, which requires no upfront fees, encourages its partners to broadly distribute their content to mobile devices. Museums and tourist attractions create an app once, and then publish it across the most popular mobile app stores. With the flexibility of real-time publishing, Toura's customers can easily develop and adapt their tours with the most up-to-date content. Museums and tourist attractions no longer need to rely on costly software development cycles every time they want to create and update mobile applications.

Toura's technology is already being embraced by leading institutions, including the Art Institute of Chicago, the second largest art museum in the United States. "The Art Institute of Chicago is always looking for innovative ways to inspire and educate the public about our collection and exhibitions," said James Cuno, the museum's President and Director. "Toura's attractive package of technology and services makes it easy for us to bring the museum's collection to life through a series of applications on smartphones, with the first coming later this spring."

The Toura Mobile App Producer is currently being used by a growing number of leading museums in the United States and Europe and Toura expects its first series of "tour" applications to launch shortly. For more information, please visit http://www.toura.com, or follow us on Twitter @touramobile.

About Toura:

Toura is creating the leading technology platform for the efficient and cost-effective creation and launch of smartphone-based mobile guides for the travel and tourism industry and its customers around the world. Toura mobile guides entertain and educate onsite and offsite "visitors" to a broad range of travel and tour attractions, including museums, galleries, zoos, parks, historic sites, trails, stadiums, universities, and others. Toura is headquartered in New York and has operations across the U.S. and Europe.

Toura is led by two media industry veterans, CEO and co-founder, Aaron Radin and Chief Marking Officer and co-founder, Sayoko Knight Teitelbaum. Aaron and Sayoko both held leadership roles at the CBS Television Stations Digital Media Group, where they helped grow revenues tenfold during their tenure. Aaron has a proven track record in digital content, having held various roles at the Walt Disney Company, Goldpocket Interactive, Showtime and the National Basketball Association. Prior to CBS, Sayoko was responsible for partner marketing development at Travelport's consumer travel websites, including Orbitz.com, Cheap Tickets and the Away Network.

"When Dan Hesse came to Sprint, he committed to changing Sprint and the wireless industry for the better. This guarantee is a strong statement about our confidence in the improvements we have made in our network, customer experience, rate plans and handset line-up," said Bob H. Johnson, president, Consumer, Sprint. "But we also know that consumers always have fears about switching their services to another provider, so we've made it easy for them to try us. Not satisfied? Cancel within 30 days and we'll give you your money back."

As part of the guarantee campaign, Hesse is featured in a stand-alone TV ad touting the Sprint Free Guarantee that begins running tomorrow on network and cable outlets. In the ad Hesse invites customers to join Sprint, "and if you're not completely happy with Sprint within 30 days, we'll give you your money back."

"This is a big win for cost conscious consumers," said noted Consumer Lifestyle Advisor Jennifer Jolly. "We want this kind of honesty and transparency. We want to know there's no more sticker-shock or bait and switch, that when a company promises us something, their word is good. Can you imagine if we could test drive a bank, health insurance, a credit-card, or any of the other things we spend our hard earned money on every month - free for 30-days? This is a big step in the right direction for Corporate America and we savvy shoppers are the ones who will benefit the most."

The Sprint Free Guarantee is one of several game-changing policies, services and products Sprint has announced over the last couple of years that has revolutionized the industry. Its award-winning device line-up, great voice and data networks, and its unmatched value in pricing plans are the reasons why Sprint is confident customers will want to give the company a try.

* Pricing plans - Plans such as Sprint's Everything Data, featuring Any Mobile, Anytime, offers an unlimited wireless experience starting at just $69.99 per month. This means Sprint customers can get unlimited calling to and from any mobile phone in America, unlimited messaging and unlimited Web, including GPS navigation, for the same price AT&T and Verizon charge for unlimited talk only. In addition, with the Sprint Right Plan Promise, customers can move to any rate plan at any time without requiring a contract extension or any fees.
* Network Advantages: 3G & 4G services - Sprint is the first national wireless carrier to launch 4G. The service is available in 28 cities today, providing a new and improved Internet experience through the next generation of services. Sprint is extending its 4G leadership by launching the HTC EVO 4G this summer - the world's first 3G/4G Android phone. Sprint also has the largest voice calling and the second largest 3G data network (inclusive of roaming).
* Device Line-up - Whether customers want the latest Blackberry smartphone, an Android phone like HTC Hero with Google or Samsung Moment with Google, or Palm Pre or Pixi, Sprint has an award-winning line-up of Smartphones and devices to fit any budget. The upcoming launch of its HTC EVO 4G, will offer one of the most robust multimedia experiences on a wireless phone today. It won "best of CTIA" earlier this month.
* Sprint Premier - Sprint celebrated the one-year anniversary of Sprint Premier, its exclusive rewards program in 2010. Sprint Premier provides annual upgrades, anniversary rewards, accessory discounts, "Just Because" perks like trips and tickets to events, and many other benefits to members. Customers with Sprint Everything Data plans are automatically enrolled in Sprint Premier.
* Ready Now - Sprint offers a personal trainer-like service free of charge called Ready Now. This exclusive Sprint experience offers hands-on device training and set up for customers at Sprint stores nationwide. A Laptop magazine study last Fall gave Sprint first place in a tie for in-store customer service.

The changes are all helping to build customer loyalty and ensure customers have a great experience with Sprint. During the past eight quarters, Sprint's retention of existing customers has improved at a rate more than five times that of its nearest competitor 1 and overall customer satisfaction has improved as well. The guarantee is another important step in Sprint's pursuit of customer experience excellence.

Sprint looking to fill nearly 125 jobs in Sacramento market

Hiring to support company's commitment to the market, its business priorities, and help deliver an exceptional experience to its wireless customers.

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. --In 2009, Sprint announced it was hiring at its Contact Center in Rancho Cordova. Now, Sprint (NYSE: S) is once again hiring in the Sacramento market. With nearly 125 positions to fill in that Center, the jobs are an economic boom during a time when other companies have been downsizing.

Sprint will hold an exclusive on-site hiring event on Thursday, April 1st, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Call Center at 3068 Kilgore Road, Rancho Cordova. This special event is designed for Sprint representatives to meet with interested job-seekers and for candidates to learn more about the position. Interviews will be available the day of the event. The new hires will be offered competitive salaries and benefits, including medical, dental, 401(k), monthly performance bonuses, and participation in Sprint's employee wireless phone program.

"This is an amazing time for the wireless industry and our employees are essential to Sprint's success. We are looking for bright, customer focused, and technically astute people who thrive on change, innovation and technology," said Dianne Drever, Site Lead and General Manager of the Sprint Sacramento Call Center. "We are especially pleased that we're also able to positively impact the local economy with our hiring initiative," Drever adds.

This decision is in anticipation of increased customer expectations with the accelerated national roll out of Sprint's 4G network coupled with an overwhelming response to new device launches, including the HTC EVO introduced at last week's CTIA wireless trade show in Las Vegas. Sprint is on the verge of revolutionizing the U.S. smartphone marketplace and needs a team of passionate and committed professionals to make it happen.

Verizon Wireless Ready For The Masters In Georgia

Company’s Wireless Network Ready for Large Crowds and Media Presence at The Masters PGA Tournament.

ALPHARETTA, GA — As The Masters quickly approaches, Verizon Wireless is making sure golf fans can share in the excitement in Augusta. With the increased media attention surrounding this year’s event, crowds in Augusta are expected to be bigger than ever. Verizon Wireless today announced their readiness to handle the increased crowds and network capacity during The Masters PGA Tournament April 5-11.

Verizon Wireless Network Enhancements Steady
In 2009, Verizon Wireless invested more than $184 million on installing 41 new cell sites, additional network capacity in over 75 cities including Augusta to enhance services and coverage for wireless customers. In addition to expanded capacity to handle the increased network traffic from the tournament crowds next month, the company recently completed the integration of the Verizon Wireless and legacy Alltel networks in the Augusta area. With this work complete, Verizon Wireless and former Alltel customers now have an expanded area of coverage and greater capacity to stay connected. The integrated network, which increased by more than 30 cell sites for both Verizon Wireless and Alltel legacy networks, delivers 100% 3G wireless broadband coverage to 99% of the greater Augusta area's population. So golf fans will have the coverage and capacity needed wherever they go in the city of Augusta, around the Augusta National Golf Club or across the state of Georgia.

“With a significant increase in media, fans, public safety officers, and personnel converging on the city of Augusta, there is a major increase in wireless activity over a short period of time,” says Jeff Mango, president - Georgia/Alabama Region for Verizon Wireless. “Our customers expect their wireless network to work no matter where they are or what is happening and we are committed to delivering it. We have to be ready to service everyone in and around the Augusta area for this prestigious event.”

Verizon Wireless Increases Call-Handling And 3G Data Capacity In Frederick, Maryland

• Data Capacity Increased to Enable Faster Uploads and Downloads
• 2009 Regional Network Investment Tops $274 M to Further Enhance 3G Network Advantage
• More Than $2.3 B Invested Regionally Since 2000
• Meet Local Real Life Network Test Man

LAUREL, MD — In a continuing effort to provide the best wireless service for local residents in Frederick, Md., and surrounding communities, Verizon Wireless has completed work that increases the capacity of both its wireless voice and data network in downtown Frederick along Jefferson St. and in Frederick Junction along Buckeystown Pike.

The increased coverage is part of the company’s aggressive multi-billion dollar network investment each year to stay ahead of the growing demand for Verizon Wireless’ voice and data services. Lat year alone, the company spent $274 million on regional network improvements, bringing total network investment in the region since 2000 to more than $2.3 billion.

“Even the most sophisticated wireless device is only as good as the network it runs on,” said Mike Maiorana. “Verizon Wireless continues to invest in our network and add capacity to stay ahead of growing demand and ensure our customers have an even better wireless experience tomorrow than they had today.”

Verizon Wireless has the nation’s largest and most reliable 3G broadband network with five times the coverage of other networks which makes advanced services like turn-by-turn navigation, over-the-air downloads of the latest applications, text/picture messaging, video and music downloads, Web browsing and 3D gaming possible. Customer demand for these advanced services continues to grow.

The company’s “nation’s most reliable wireless network” reputation is based on network studies performed by real-life test men and test women throughout the country. These engineers drive 100 specially equipped vehicles more than 1 million miles annually on Interstate, U.S. and state highways, as well as major roads and surface streets. Test vehicles are equipped with computers that automatically make more than 3.5 million voice call attempts and more than 19 million data tests annually on Verizon Wireless’ network and the networks of other carriers.*

Results from this internal network quality assurance test program confirm that Verizon Wireless is the 3G network quality leader in the Virginia, Maryland and DC region, and correlate with other third-party network quality findings, including J.D. Power and Associates. Verizon Wireless ranked “Highest for Call Quality Performance among Wireless Cell Phone Users in the Mid-Atlantic” in the J.D. Power and Associates 2010 Wireless Call Quality Performance Study(SM) Volume 1. The J.D. Power and Associates study measures call quality among the major U.S. wireless service providers based on factors that impact overall carrier performance.*

In addition to enhancing its 3G network, Verizon Wireless has also begun testing its 4G network which it plans to deploy in 2010 in 25 to 30 U.S. markets, covering 100 million people. Verizon Wireless’ 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) wireless network will offer dramatically higher wireless speeds and reliability than even today’s most advanced 3G network.

Elan seeks ITC ban on Apple multi-touch products, including iPad

Touchscreen IC design house Elan Microelectronics, which has accused Apple of infringing its multi-touch technology, has filed another lawsuit with the US International Trade Commission (ITC) alleging that Apple is violating section 337 of the Tariff Act of 1930 by importing and selling its iPhone and other multi-touch devices products made using its patents.

Elan is also seeking to block the import and sale of Apple's iPad. The Taiwan-based chip designer claims the forthcoming product is among the infringing items in its complaint with the ITC. Elan said it is requesting the agency to issue a permanent exclusion order that operates to bar Apple's multi-touch products from entry into the US.

In April 2009, Elan filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Apple with the US District Court for the Northern District of California, asserting two patents (US patent No 5825352 and 7274353) that cover innovations in touch-sensitive input devices incorporated into smartphones and computer touchpads.

Taiwan market: 3.5G data card subscribers to top one million in 2010

The number of 3.5G data card subscribers in the Taiwan market more than doubled to 660,000 in 2009 and is expected to further expand to one million by the end of 2010, according to industry sources, who cited data from the National Communications Commission (NCC).

Although the proliferation of smartphones and WiMAX services may lure away some users from the 3.5G data card segment, the 3.5G data card service will also be able to continue attracting users from the fixed-line ADSL sector, the sources noted. There are two million ADSL subscribers currently.

Each of Taiwan's top-three mobile service operators - Chunghwa Telecom (CHT), Taiwan Mobile (TWM) and Far EasTone Telecommunications (FET) - has about 230,000 3.5G data card subscribers currently.

Motorola handset component supply chain in Taiwan likely to undergo rearrangement

The supply chain of handset keypads, cases, panels, PCBs and camera modules for Motorola in Taiwan may come to a rearrangement as Arima Communications is likely to replace Compal Communications as the largest production partner for the US handset vendor, according to industry sources.

Motorola aims to ship 30 million Android-based smartphones as well as 30 million entry-level feature phones in 2010, with plans to outsource the production of all feature phones to ODM makers in Taiwan and China, said the sources, who are familiar with Motorola roadmap.

Motorola has selected 4-5 makers in Taiwan and China as potential partners and may release orders for 10-20 new handsets to those partners, indicated the sources, noting that most new feature phones will be built using MediaTek chipset solutions.

Arima reportedly will receive a windfall of orders from Motorola due to its expertise in the manufacture of MediaTek-based handsets, according to earlier reporters.

Having begun releasing orders to new partners, Motorola has also allowed the new partners to choose their own suppliers for related parts and components, and this policy will affect the supply chain for keypads, PCBs, cases, electronics and audio components, panels and camera modules, the sources noted.

Motorola Wins Largest TETRA Terminal Award from German Federal Ministry of Interior

Contract includes the delivery of approximately 53,000 TETRA digital radio terminals – Motorola´s largest single public safety TETRA terminal contract in Europe

IDSTEIN, Germany – The Enterprise Mobility Solutions business of Motorola, Inc (NYSE: MOT), a world leading provider of mission critical communications solutions, announced that it will supply the Central Procurement Office of the German Federal Ministry of the Interior (Beschaffungsamt des Bundesministeriums des Innern - BMI) with an estimated 53,000 TETRA digital two-way radios. This is the largest award from the federal government and regional states for a TETRA terminal rollout in Germany. It also represents the largest single public safety contract ever received by Motorola in Europe for TETRA radio devices and one of the largest TETRA contracts in the world.

Over the next three years Motorola will supply the federal public safety users, which includes the federal police (Bundespolizei), the federal criminal police (Bundeskriminalamt), the German federal agency for technical relief (Technisches Hilfswerk), German customs and other public safety bodies with portable and mobile TETRA terminals as well as accessories and services.

The contract includes portable and mobile TETRA radios including a tailored vehicle solution to aid the migration of users from existing analogue radio services to the new TETRA network. In addition, Motorola will provide its “integrated Terminal Management” (iTM) solution to centrally manage the configuration of each radio. This significant win for Motorola continues to build the company’s reputation as the leading supplier of TETRA terminals for mission critical communications. The German Federal Ministry of Interior contract follows other recent terminal wins in the country for Motorola. German regional authorities that have adopted Motorola’s TETRA radio standards include Berlin, Thuringia and Schleswig-Holstein.

The contract includes the new MTP850FuG handheld, an easy-to-use and robust device that includes core features such as secure, reliable voice and data communications. It also incorporates additional features to comply with German public safety authority standards and requirements.

The key safety features incorporated into the MTP850FuG are:

* End-to-end encryption compliant with Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) standards
* Compliant with BOS (Behörden und Organisationen mit Sicherheitsaufgaben - German public safety authorities) functional requirements Transmission power of up to 1.8 watts for extended coverage, especially in Direct Mode Operation (DMO)
* FMS (Funk-Melde-System) status application and acoustic receipt function, for fast and efficient communications
* A “Man Down” feature that sends an alert to the dispatcher if the radio does not move in a given period of time or tilts past a defined angle

These and other features help end-users to migrate easily from their existing analogue devices to the new TETRA digital radio. The rugged terminals offer public safety users an easy-to-use interface, which has been developed specifically to ensure the devices are intuitive to operate and therefore meet the needs of the mission critical end-user.

Another key element of the contract is the supply of customised vehicle solutions, where the new TETRA mobile radio can be installed alongside existing analogue radios, allowing communications between the existing analogue and TETRA systems – while providing a simple user interface. This supports the migration of users’ radio services from the old analogue to TETRA digital radio technology.

Motorola will also supply its Integrated Terminal Management (iTM) solution that will allow the users groups of the federal government to remotely manage the software and configurations of every radio terminal from a central location. Based on an enterprise-grade client-server architecture, iTM operates over a standard IP network, which allows the customer to integrate iTM seamlessly into their existing IT networks for enhanced security. The iTM solution improves the speed and reliability with which software updates and radio-configuration changes can be carried out across the whole system. This contributes to officer safety as well as efficient management and security of the terminals.

“We are delighted to supply the Central Procurement Office of the German Federal Ministry of Interior with perhaps the largest number of TETRA terminals ever covered within a single award. This is an exciting step for Motorola as we will deliver our TETRA terminals to federal organisations across the entire country and pays testimony to our competitiveness and leadership position as we continue to strive for excellence in the deployment of mission critical solutions,” said Manuel Torres, corporate vice president and general manager, Motorola Enterprise Mobility Solutions Business, EMEA. “The end-user is always at the forefront of our terminal development and the MTP850FuG is the perfect example of this approach: It is a rugged and intuitive device designed for the needs and specifications of public safety users in the German market.”

The Motorola TETRA portfolio includes infrastructure solutions, terminals, applications and services that are used in more than 90 countries worldwide. To date, the company has been able to maintain its leading position in the sector of TETRA digital radio solutions. The rugged, intuitively operated products from Motorola already undergo extensive tests during the development phase to ensure high quality and reliable handling even under extreme conditions.
