Lg Of p950: Android-[smartfon] of a new series

In the names of the models of the telephones of company lg the alphanumeric codings of the sufficiently intricate structure adapt. On the site of company appeared .xml the file of the profile of the cell phone Of [r]950. Earlier than the warrant “R” it was not encountered, and there is the probability that this speaks about the creation some of a new series of [smartfonov] for the European or American market.

According to the data of profile, the apparatus possesses sensory WVGA by screen (480 x of 800 points), is supported to the network of the third generation with the transmission of data on the protocol HSDPA/HSUPA and it works for control of the operating system Of android. Sony announces "division two" VAIO laptops

Sony is to launch a "division two" of VAIO laptops that are made and designed by other manufacturers.

In an exclusive interview with PC Pro, the deputy president of Sony VAIO’s Business Group announced a two-tier strategy for the company’s laptop division, with “division one” for the VAIO laptops designed and built by Sony, and a “division two” for VAIO models built by its partners.

We need a certain market share. And if we don’t have a certain market share, it’s tough to survive

Even though these “division two” laptops won’t be built by Sony, Ryosuke Akahane claimed that they would have a “taste of VAIO, the style of VAIO”. The laptops will still bear Sony's name, and the company will approve all third-party designs.

They will also include many of the features to be included in new models of Sony-made VAIOs, such as the Assist button – press this and a recovery centre will launch to help customers save and rescue data.

Akahane insists the new products will be of the same quality as existing VAIOs. “The quality criteria itself is no different between division number one and division number two.”

Instead the difference will be in the technology. “We will include new technology [such as the latest processors] in division number one first, and then we can learn and we can get the know-how, then we can transfer [the technology] to the products coming from division two.”

Two brands?

We asked Akahane if Sony had considered setting up a different brand in a similar way to Dell with its Studio and Inspiron lines, but he was definitive in his answer. “No. We had a discussion for that, but the conclusion is no. Making a new brand is an investment, it’s not efficient, and also for the customer we wanted to enhance the identity of VAIO more and more and for that having a different brand is not good.”

Akahane has set an informal target of ten million sales of VAIO laptops in 2010, rising from around 6.8 million in 2009. Explaining the need for this dramatic rise now, he explained: “We need a certain market share. And if we don’t have a certain market share, it’s tough to survive.” However, he ruled out buying a rival to boost Sony's sales in the immediate future.

So who is Sony targeting with its new strategy? “It’s more HP and Apple [than Acer]. We have been launching new technology and new products, and we believe we’ve made lots of innovation. We’ll continue with those challenges, and at the same time the network service is very important.”

The network service Akahane refers to is based on the PlayStation Network, Sony’s rival to Xbox Live. “In our case, we have more devices [than Apple] – such as TVs and PlayStation, and also we have to realise the synergy among those products.”

The example cited by Akahane was watching a movie: you download it on a TV but need to leave your home for work, and with a synched network service you could watch the rest of the movie from the exact point you stopped watching on your Sony Ericsson phone or VAIO laptop.

Akahane wouldn’t confirm when this service would become available, but we expect it to arrive late in 2010.

Toshiba U.S. PC sales surge, slates coming

Toshiba Corp's personal computer sales in the United States jumped 50 percent in the first quarter, and the company said it was preparing to roll out tablet-style computing devices later this year to compete with Apple Inc's iPad.

Jeff Barney, general manager of digital products for Toshiba America, said Toshiba plans to launch so-called "slate" PCs this year, running on both Microsoft's Windows 7 and Google's mobile Android operating systems.

Toshiba is looking at a variety of form factors for its slate PCs, including a dual-screen model running Windows, and one with a roughly 10-inch screen, he said.

"We definitely see a place for the slate, we see there's a market there. It'll be expansive like netbooks, it won't be cannibalistic," he said.

An Android device would likely have a lower price tag, while a Windows-based model would be more expensive, he said.

"Media consumption on these slates will be the main user activity," Barney said, adding that the company was lining up partners to provide content.

The Android device would be able to tap the thousands of programs on offer in the Android Market, which is currently accessed primarily by smartphone users.

The market for tablet computers is expected to grow to as many as 50 million units in 2014, according to research group In-Stat. Companies such as Hewlett-Packard and Dell Inc will also release devices this year.

Barney said Toshiba shipped 1.5 million PC units in the January-March period in the United States, benefiting from strong consumer demand.

Average selling prices, which have been falling for some time, leveled off in the quarter, he said, as component costs stabilized.

Barney said he expected 35 percent growth in the U.S. consumer PC market over the next six months, and single-digit growth from enterprise customers. Consumers make up roughly three-fourths of Toshiba's U.S. PC sales.

Toshiba is the world's No. 5 PC maker, according to industry tracker IDC, and the No. 4 vendor in the United States.

"The consumer market is doing very well for us, particularly at retail," Barney said.

Will a banal text message be your last words?

Jalise Hinton worried about people who send text messages on cell phones while driving.

"I know a lot of people who text while driving," said Hinton, a senior at Utah Valley University. "I've done it a couple times."

She wanted to alert people to the dangers that it poses. So the graphic-design major devoted her senior project to creating a public-service announcement on the subject.

Her message shows, from the driver's perspective, one hand on the wheel and the other clutching a cell phone with the message "c u l8r" (see you later) on the screen. To the side is the thought-provoking message, "Will these be your final words?" It also spotlights a Web site Hinton created on the dangers of texting while driving.

Hinton's message is displayed on 18 bus stands in Provo and Orem, as well as on a donated billboard on Interstate 15 near the UVU campus. She also received an $1,800 grant from UVU's Community of Engaged Learners' program to print the messages.

Jim Godfrey, assistant professor of art and visual communication and Hinton's adviser, said the project reflected a trend in students wanting to use design skills to increase social awareness. But he said most student projects consist of a series of posters or a book.

"They don't usually do it on such a grand scale," Godfrey said of Hinton's outdoor advertising campaign.

Godfrey was enthusiastic when Hinton first pitched the idea, one which he felt was timely.

University of Utah researchers David Strayer and Frank Drews have found that people who text while driving are six times more likely to get into accidents, twice the number who talk on phones while on the road. The research found that texting drivers are as impaired as drunken drivers.

Tom and Ray Magliozzi, hosts of NPR's "Car Talk," are on a personal crusade against cell phone use in cars, urging people to just turn off the electronic devices when behind the wheel. Even talk show queen Oprah Winfrey has jumped on the bandwagon, urging people not to text and drive.

During the 2009 Legislature, lawmakers voted to outlaw texting while driving, but this year rejected a bill that would have barred teen drivers from using cell phones.

Godfrey also has a personal reason for supporting Hinton's project.

"I have a teenage daughter who is going to get a driver license," Godfrey said. "I tried to text while driving, but I'm not a good multi-tasker."

Hinton said the challenging part of her project was getting the graphics and text to work together, as well as create a message that can be grasped by someone in a speeding car.

Godfrey said Hinton had to show that the person with the phone was behind the wheel of the car, as well as convey a powerful message. Suggesting that someone's last words could be a banal text message did the trick, he said.

Hinton had help from photography student Tempestt Turman to create the image on the billboard. Outdoor Promotions donated the space on the bus stops, while Young Electric Sign Co. donated the billboard.

So far, Hinton said the message seems to be getting through, based on the feedback she's getting.

Godfrey said Hinton's project is an example of what UVU is trying to do with its engaged learning program. While most interpret the concept as performing community service, he said it can also mean increasing public awareness, as Hinton has done.

NI Technology Updates Outlooks for Apple, Broadcom, Intersil, Advanced Micro Devices and Cirrus Logic

PRINCETON, N.J., -- Next Inning Technology Research (http://www.nextinning.com), an online investment newsletter focused on semiconductor and technology stocks, announced it has updated outlooks for Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL), Broadcom (Nasdaq: BRCM), Intersil (Nasdaq: ISIL), Advanced Micro Devices (NYSE: AMD) and Cirrus Logic ( CRUS).

Editor Paul McWilliams has displayed uncanny accuracy in identifying winners and losers during this challenging and historic period for the markets. After logging a very successful 2009, McWilliams is now intently focused on the catalysts generating profits in 2010. So far this year, his Next Inning model portfolio is up 19% versus 10% for the Nasdaq.

Trial subscribers will receive McWilliams' highly acclaimed State of Tech reports that offer in-depth sector by sector coverage of over 65 leading tech companies and McWilliams' specific guidance on which stocks he thinks investors should own and which should be avoided during the upcoming earnings season. These reports, as well as McWilliams' regular commentary, are available for free to trial subscribers.

In addition, a Next Inning trial subscription also offers access to a new special report on stocks that are likely to benefit most from the boom in demand for mobile bandwidth worldwide driven by Apple's iPhone and other smartphones. Finally, subscribers will have access to McWilliams' daily commentary and actionable alerts that have been providing frequent profit opportunities for Next Inning subscribers for years. To take advantage of this offer and receive these reports for free, please visit the following link:

https://www.nextinning.com/subscribe/index.php?refer=prn1001

McWilliams covers these topics and more in his recent reports:

-- In combing through the various tear-down reports, McWilliams has now confirmed that Atmel, Linear Tech, Samsung, NXP, Texas Instruments, Intersil, Broadcom, STMicro, and Cirrus Logic all have design wins in the new Apple iPad. What supplier won the coveted touch screen control?

-- See a complete itemized listing of the iPad winners including descriptions of the functions their parts support in our special tear-down report.

-- After his emphatic call to sell Advanced Micro Devices in early January 2007, McWilliams remained bearish on the stock until early in 2009 when he flipped to a bullish stance. Since then, the stock has gone up nearly 335%. What information has McWilliams received from his Asian field contact network that leads him to believe investors should continue holding the stock for more gains?

-- McWilliams advised Next Inning readers to expect Intel to again report substantially above Wall Street expectations. This makes the fourth straight quarter he was right and Wall Street was wrong. What information did Intel share during its conference call that suggests we should expect a similar upside for Advanced Micro when it reports quarterly results today after the close?

-- Ahead of its earnings call, McWilliams advised Next Inning readers to consider buying Linear Tech and a select few other leading analog semiconductor suppliers. According to his vast network of field contacts, he predicted that Linear Tech would report substantially above analyst expectations and guide similarly for the June quarter. As we know now, this is exactly what happened. The fun and profits don't stop there though. Earnings season has just started and, as is usually the case, Linear Tech shared enough information during its conference call to help McWilliams decipher which companies that have yet to report earnings will likely provide investors with upside surprises.

Founded in September 2002, Next Inning's model portfolio has returned 292% since its inception versus 34% for the S&P 500.

About Next Inning:

Next Inning is a subscription-based investment newsletter that provides regular coverage on more than 150 technology and semiconductor stocks. Subscribers receive intra-day analysis, commentary and recommendations, as well as access to monthly semiconductor sales analysis, regular Special Reports, and the Next Inning model portfolio. "I'm someone who is interested in how people use technology and how technology can change our lives, hopefully for the better," Cole explains. Ubiquity Chairman and CEO, Chris Carmichael says Dr. Cole's "vision, knowledge and insight complement the vision of Ubiquity." Carmichael defines Ubiquity as "the first 3-screen broadcasting company with the desire to involve and activate our customers and clients. Jeff sees our vision - because he is living it." Carmichael describes the addition of Dr. Cole to the company's board of directors as "intuition and analytics melded together."

Andrew Kaplan, Chairman of the Center for the Digital Future at USC and President, Networks for Sony Pictures Television commented on the appointment saying, "Jeff Cole's insight into consumer behavior and how people consume media will make him an invaluable asset to Ubiquity."

Dr. Cole believes that internet and mobile usage over the past 10 years has been truly transformational. In Ubiquity, he sees "the connection between technology and people. What Ubiquity has done and is doing is creating that power on the web to really, completely create and maintain control over our environment. MyBrandz Top200 Loved Brands: Facebook Overtakes Google and Toyota is Falling

NEW YORK and TEL AVIV, Israel -- MyBrandz, the independent Web service for brand fans, released its latest rankings of the world's 200 top brands. This latest ranking demonstrates a significant shift in the public's perception of top consumer brands, illustrating the impact of consumer loyalty on a company's popularity.

MyBrandz uses its dynamic "MyBrandz Brands Map" mapping companies and sorting them by popularity and affinity. With the MyBrandz Brands Map, members find out which companies are considered the hottest now -- and which are gaining global esteem. By using this tool, the company found that Facebook has overtaken Google and is on its way to narrowing the gap with Apple to become the most loveable brand on Earth.

Facebook's jump in brand rank has been impacted by numerous factors, including increased site traffic and positive sentiment in online conversations, especially when compared to negative sentiment about Google stemming from a mixed reaction to Google Buzz and the firm's crisis in China. Also Toyota couldn't stop its falling to the sixth place in the "Cars and Automotive" category

"MyBrandz Brands Map offers insight into what consumers value -- right now," said Eran Gefen, MyBrandz CEO. "Facebook is solidifying its place in the brand universe, and every organization can learn from their efforts to engender consumer affinity. It's not just about traffic or eyeballs; a lasting brand understands that consumer loyalty is impacted by a multitude of factors."

The Brand Rank was built using MyBrandz's proprietary algorithm, which takes into consideration more than 28 distinct qualitative and quantitative parameters, including buzz, brand sentiment, number of Twitter followers, Facebook fans, site traffic and passion for the brand on MyBrandz.com.

Apple's place atop the latest Brand Rank comes as no surprise. As the top placed news brand, CNN ranks 7 spots ahead of its nearest rival, FOX. Proving the value of classic tech brands, Sony squeaked into the top 10 at number 9, with Disney (3), NBA (4), MTV (6), Starbucks (8) and Twitter (10) rounding out the upper echelon.

Proving that luxury brands can maintain their status even in the midst of a global recession, Ferrari landed at number 24, and National Geographic's spot at number 32 is testament to the power of a "life-long" brand.

The top 50 brands are as follows:

1 Apple 2 Facebook 3 Disney 4 NBA 5 Google 6 MTV 7 CNN 8 Starbucks 9 Sony 10 Twitter 11 Nintendo 12 Nike 13 Microsoft 14 Adidas 15 FOX 16 NHL 17 the New York Times 18 eBAY 19 Dell 20 NFL 21 Ford 22 Nokia 23 Playboy 24 Ferrari 25 Linux 26 Marvel 27 Yahoo! 28 ABC 29 CBS 30 RedBull 31 BlackBerry 32 National Geographic 33 BestBuy 34 Pepsi 35 Vogue 36 GAP 37 Virgin 38 CocaCola 39 Wired 40 NBC 41 Gibson 42 Honda 43 McDonald's 44 HTC 45 Amazon 46 Oreo 47 Converse 48 BMW 49 Barbie 50 Verizon

Verizon Breaks Ground On Technology Innovation Center In Waltham, Mass.

Multimillion-Dollar Investment in Verizon Technology Innovation Center Includes New Building, R&D Labs, Executive Briefing Center at Existing Verizon Technology Campus.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ, and WALTHAM, MA — Verizon broke ground on its new Technology Innovation Center in Waltham, Mass. The center will be a catalyst for delivering new and innovative devices and services that connect people, places and things, using next-generation wireline and wireless technology.

The Verizon Technology Innovation Center will be the first-of-its-kind collaboration hub for expanding the telecommunications ecosystem by taking advantage of the convergence of new technologies to offer customers powerful new products and services.

The brainchild of Dick Lynch, Verizon executive vice president and chief technology officer, the Verizon Technology Innovation Center is designed to provide a central base for Verizon’s advanced technology initiatives. It will house office and lab space for some of the country’s leading technologists and scientists as well as a state-of-the-art Executive Briefing Center where partners, consumer electronics companies, innovation collaborators, business executives and public officials can meet to discuss and collaborate on forward-looking technologies such as FiOS and next-generation 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) wireless technology. Application and advancement of these new technologies will be a key focus.

Together with the Verizon Technology Campus at Waltham – which houses Verizon technical staff focused on end-to-end architecture, design and testing of the Verizon network as well as IT applications development – the Technology Innovation Center will employ a total of more than 300 leading technologists. The additional space will provide the facilities, partner meeting spaces and collaboration areas that are necessary to keep the Waltham campus a world-class center.

Work at the Verizon Technology Innovation Center will include:

* Planning for the continued integration of Verizon wireline and wireless networks
* Providing a home base for the development of the first nationwide 4G LTE network in the U.S., now undergoing user trials in the Boston area
* Expanding support for third parties that are working on new devices and applications for use on Verizon’s networks
* Ongoing testing to ensure continued global network interoperability with other worldwide network companies, including British Telecom, Deutche Telekom, France Telecom, NTT and China Telecom
* Optimizing and advancing the portion of the Internet provided and maintained by Verizon
* Maximizing connectivity and performance of Verizon’s customers to the Internet
* Conducting user experience testing and focus groups for products such as FiOS TV and FiOS broadband
* Developing ideas and applications for the National Science Foundation’s Global Environment for Network Innovations (GENI) project for Web 2.0

Verizon’s Lynch said, “Verizon is recognized as a global leader in innovation and technology, and the Verizon Technology Innovation Center will allow our world-class scientists and IT professionals to continue to have the leading-edge resources they need to develop the technologies, products and services that can dramatically change the way we live. As a Massachusetts native, I’m extremely pleased to be here shaping Verizon’s technology investments and creating Verizon’s future technology vision in the Bay State.”

The Verizon Technology Innovation Center is scheduled to be completed in early 2011 and will include a 60,000-square-foot, three-story facility located in the Reservoir Woods East Campus off of Winter Street in Waltham. The property is owned by Davis Marcus Partners, a venture between Marcus Partners and The Davis Companies, in partnership with Prudential Real Estate Investors (PREI). The new building, designed by noted Boston architect Howard Elkus of Elkus-Manfredi, will be developed to LEED Silver standards of the United States Green Building Council.

When the Verizon Technology Innovation Center is complete, the current 136,000-square-foot Verizon Technology Campus in Waltham will be expanded to a total of 196,000 square feet.

Waltham was selected as the site for the new center because of the company’s partnership with local high-tech innovators, including Airvana, Starent (now part of Cisco), Camiant, Acme Packet, NetNumber and Sonus Networks, and because of the site’s proximity to other local entrepreneurial tech firms and the wealth of Massachusetts’ academic and research institutions.

The Waltham location also supports Verizon’s leadership in the Massachusetts IT Collaborative, an organization formed by Gov. Deval Patrick and composed of business, academic and government leaders who are working to create more investment opportunities and jobs in the IT sector in the Bay State.

Greg Bialecki, Massachusetts secretary of housing and economic development, noted, “The Verizon Technology Innovation Center brings a new generation of wireless technology innovation and opportunity here to Massachusetts. This investment is key to supporting the state’s constantly growing technology sector, and is a prime example of what is possible here in the Commonwealth.”

The site in Waltham also serves as the hub of wireless technology and user trials in the Boston area. Verizon Wireless has been testing its forthcoming 4G LTE network in Boston since August 2009 and is on track to deliver an outstanding wireless data experience to customers in the area, as well as in 25 to 30 other markets, covering roughly 100 million people by the end of this year. Verizon Wireless is currently installing LTE equipment at existing cell sites and switching centers around the U.S. as part of its extensive, ongoing investment in its voice and data network infrastructure.

Institutional Investor Magazine Selects Sprint's Robert Brust as One of America's Best CFOs

OVERLAND PARK, Kan.. --Robert Brust, chief financial officer for Sprint (NYSE: S), has been selected as one of "America's Best Chief Financial Officers" by Institutional Investor magazine. Brust will be honored on the New York Stock Exchange Trading Floor on June 9, 2010 at the Corporate Financial Executive Summit. The honorees were selected by portfolio managers and buy-side equity analysts that chose the top-performing CFOs in more than 90 industries and across 15 sectors.

"I am truly honored by and grateful for this recognition," Brust said. "I would like to thank Institutional Investor for this award, in addition to everyone on my team and at Sprint, as this demonstrates the strides Sprint is making."

Since becoming Sprint's chief financial officer two years ago, Brust has created a culture that is extremely cost conscious and aligns all company finances with corporate priorities. As a result of his focus on cutting costs, conserving cash and meeting financial expectations, Sprint has implemented financial policies which resulted in $2.8 billion in free cash flow in 2009, the highest in Sprint Nextel history, despite the challenging economic climate.

Prior to joining Sprint, Brust previously served as chief financial officer and executive vice president of Eastman Kodak Company from January 2000 until February 2007, when he retired from the company. Prior experience includes nearly three years as CFO of Unisys and 31 years in various positions at General Electric.

Sprint Makes Mobile TV Easy and Affordable with More Phones, More Coverage and More Channels than Competitors

Sprint TV included with Everything Data plans, available anywhere on the Sprint 3G network; Sprint 4G will take mobile video to next level.

OVERLAND PARK, Kan., --Ever wanted to tune into your favorite TV shows while on the go, but found you weren't in your wireless carrier's mobile TV coverage area or would have to pay extra for even basic channels? Unlike some other carriers' mobile TV offerings, Sprint (NYSE: S) makes it easy and affordable for customers to watch live or on-demand TV right on their Sprint phone with Sprint TV, available on more phones, in more coverage areas, with more included channels.

Sprint TV is available on 24 currently offered Sprint phones and more than 40 older models, for service virtually anywhere on the Sprint 3G Mobile Broadband Network and currently includes 21 popular channels, such as ABC, CBS and NBC, with an Everything Data or Simply Everything plan from Sprint. Sprint TV also will be offered on the upcoming HTC EVO 4G, taking mobile video to the next level with Sprint 4G speeds that are up to 10 times faster than 3G.1

"Sprint makes it easier and less expensive for customers to watch mobile TV than other wireless carriers," said Len Barlik, vice president of wireless and wireline services for Sprint. "With Sprint TV included in Everything Data plans and available anywhere on our 3G network, a customer can watch the game live on their phone while they wait for a flight or a let their kids watch cartoons on a family road trip. Sprint is giving great programming to our customers to deliver the best mobile video experience, which will continue to be enhanced with our Sprint 4G speeds and HTC EVO 4G."

More Compatible Phones

Sprint TV is available on the majority of Sprint's current device lineup, including the popular HTC Hero with Google and Samsung Moment with Google Android devices; Blackberry Curve and Blackberry Tour smartphones; and feature phones like the eco-friendly Samsung Reclaim. By contrast, other carriers offer mobile TV on only a limited number of their phones.

In addition, Sprint TV will be available on HTC EVO 4G at launch this summer, delivering a multimedia experience at 4G speeds that is second to none, making it possible to watch high-quality streaming video on the go and download videos in seconds - not minutes.

More Included Channels

With Sprint TV, customers get access to everything from news, weather and sports to children's programs and comedy, including full-length live and on-demand episodes of such hit shows as 30 Rock, FlashForward and Survivor included at no extra charge in Everything Data and Simply Everything plans. That's compared to other carriers who charge an extra $9.99 to $15 per month for fewer channels, on top of data pack charges.2

To make watching mobile TV even easier, Sprint has launched a new online channel guide at http://sprintchannels.mobitv.com, giving customers an easy-to-browse view of all the channels currently included in Everything Data and Simply Everything plans. Recently, ESPN was added to the channels included with Sprint TV.

With the online channel guide, customers also can easily view the more than 40 additional premium channels and packages that are available for purchase. The Sprint TV Xtra pack, for instance, gives customers more than 25 additional channels, such as ABC Family, COMEDY CENTRAL, Discovery Channel, Disney XD and MTV, for $9.99 per month.

More Network Coverage

Sprint customers can access Sprint TV anywhere on the Sprint 3G Mobile Broadband Network - unlike some other carriers, whose mobile TV service is confined to a limited number of large cities. The Sprint 3G Network (inclusive of data roaming) reaches more than 273 million people in 18,900 cities and 1,855 airports. Coverage maps are available at www.sprint.com/coverage.

With the launch of HTC EVO 4G this summer, customers also will be able to access Sprint TV at 4G speeds anywhere on the Sprint 4G Network, currently available in 28 cities. Sprint 4G offers a faster wireless experience than any other U.S. national wireless carrier, and Sprint is the only national carrier offering wireless 4G service today.
