Frost & Of sullivan: Mobile Internet in Russia

The [konsaltingovaya] company Of frost & Of sullivan prepared its report “the market for mobile wide-band Internet access in central and East Europe”, where it is noted that the economic decrease and the restrictive policy of market regulators, especially in the plan of reduction in the rates for “the landing” of the bells of the subscribers of mobile connection, most negatively influenced the market for mobile connection in central and East Europe. Because of reduction in the gain from the traditional mobile services the operators of mobile connection, also in Russia, began to pay greater attention to the development of the mobile wide-band access ([SHPD]) into the Internet. Although the markets for the countries of east central Europe are considerably characterized by the level of the penetration of mobile [SHPD], the utilized technologies and net coating, the one unites them. According to the forecasts, into the next five years of all them waits the dynamic development of the services of mobile wide-band Internet- access.

According to the data of this report the gain of market was in 2009 1,1 billion Euro, and in 2014, according to the forecasts, it will increase to 5,2 billion Euros. More than 50% it is necessary from them in the portion of Russian market. The penetration of this service will grow from 2% to 10% in the forecasted period.

Russian operators see large potential in the development of mobile wide-band Internet- access. Megaphone, MTS and [Vympelkom] systematically increase net coating with 3G in the country. Having moreover, obtained access to the frequencies in Moscow, they now can move services on the most attractive market of Russia. The services of the mobile Internet are allowed with the support not only TO HSDPA/HSPA+, and also of other technologies. For example, the company Of sky Of link continues to develop this segment of services on the base CDMA. Yota, from the other side, rapidly expanding client base, proved to be the largest provider of the mobile Of wiMAX in entire east central Europe.

Studies of the company Of frost & Of sullivan conduct the estimation of situation in the sector of mobile [SHPD] on five basic markets for central and East Europe: in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Russia and Slovakia. Analysis is based on the main measures of effectiveness and the views on that, as different technologies of mobile wide-band access they are developed on these markets. The following technologies are examined: CDMA, Flash OFDM, HSDPA, HSPA+, Mobile Of wiMAX and LTE.
