Ichia to double flexible PCB capacity by year-end 2010

Friday, May 14, 2010

Handset keypad and flexible PCB (FPCB) maker Ichia Technologies plans to double its FPCB capacity to 100,000 square feet a month by the end of 2010 as compared to a year earlier, according to the company.

FPCB sales totaled NT$391 million (US$12.33 million) in April, accounting for 61.5% of total sales. Sales of keypads, casings and connector parts totaled NT$245 million for the remaining 38.5%.

Industry sources indicated that Ichia have started shipping FPCBs in small volume to RIM (Research in Motion) and Sony Ericsson, in addition to Nokia indirectly through panel makers such as Chimei Innolux (CMI), AU Optronics (AUO) and Wintek.

Ichia has also begun to ship high-margin handset keypad modules, which also include casing and connectors, to white-box handset makers in China, the sources added.
