Sony Ericsson launches 'ambassador' programme

Manufacturer starts new training scheme.
Sony Ericsson has launched a new retail incentive scheme, called the ambassador programme.

To kick off the programme, the manufacturer has been touring the country, visiting key locations to raise retail staffers awareness of its products.

The Insider on Tour initiative started at the beginning of April and has seen a Sony Ericsson branded bus visiting retailers in Southampton, Cardiff, Manchester, Edinburgh and London.

The tour coincides with the launch of an online retail portal called the Insider.

The aim of the initiative is to educate retailers about software as well as hardware.

Sony Ericsson marketing manager, Simon Gilbert said: We want store staff to understand our products a little bit more and wanted to bring them to an exclusive band of store staff with the aim of making them Sony Ericsson ambassadors.

Retailers who have been visited by the Insider Tour over the last few weeks have learnt about the X10, and were given free Sony Ericsson merchandising and taken to a local bowling alley.

One retailer said: Last time Sony Ericsson did something massive was when they did the W series, this time round they have started to do something similar.

Gilbert added: This is the start of the Sony Ericsson ambassador programme and we wanted it to be a bit of fun as well. Four people will be taken to Las Vegas to the CES show, but they will have had to have demonstrated that they are Sony Ericsson ambassadors by training up colleagues and taking part on to the Insider website.

The Insider website launched on 3 March and 4,000 people have registered since then to learn about Sony Ericsson products.
