Taiwan market: Motorola bidding on Global Mobile WiMAX project, sources say

Tuesday, February 23, 2010

Motorola is bidding on a contract for the supply of WiMAX equipment to Taiwan-based WiMAX operator Global Mobile, and the bid results will be announced at the end of February, according to industry sources.

Meanwhile, Motorola has announced that First International Telecom (Fitel) has awarded Motorola's network business a contract to deploy a WiMAX network in northern Taiwan. It is Motorola's second contract from Fitel, following a WiMAX network deployment announced in 2008.

Fitel plans to launch commercial high-speed mobile data services based on the 4G technology this year after the WiMAX network is certified by the National Communications Commission (NCC) in March.

Motorola has deployed WiMAX networks for Far EasTone Telecommunications (FET), another Taiwan-based WiMAX operator.
