Nokia Siemens Networks Commends FCC for National Broadband Plan Effort

Saturday, March 20, 2010

In response to the U.S. Federal Communications Commission’s announcement of a National Broadband Plan today that offers policy recommendations and long term goals, Nokia Siemens Networks issued the following statement on behalf of Sue Spradley, North America region head.

“Nokia Siemens Networks applauds the Commission for its vision and leadership in proposing a National Broadband Plan that aims to help ensure that the best possible broadband experiences are available in every corner of the United States. For three years now, we have commissioned the Connectivity Scorecard, which focuses on a country’s ability to leverage information and communications technology (ICT) in government, schools and enterprises to stimulate economic growth and productivity. So we share the FCC’s aspiration and value the social and economic benefits that broadband is enabling today, and the multiplier effects that next-generation mobile and fixed broadband technologies will deliver in the near future.

“This plan is an encouraging step toward fulfilling Congress’s vision of broadband blanketing the entire country. A lot of hard work and cooperation will be required to achieve that objective, and policy choices will need to support investment in the intelligent broadband infrastructure that makes the delivery of high quality services and applications possible. Collaborative innovation across networks, services, applications, content and devices will define long-term success. We also applaud the recognition that private sector investment must continue to lead the charge, and that competition drives innovation and consumer choice.

“Nokia Siemens Networks looks forward to contributing its ideas and recommendations as the Commission and its partners across the government move the Broadband Plan forward.”
