New TETRA radio communications system provides improved security and user capabilities for Oslo Police.

OSLO, Norway – The Enterprise Mobility Solutions business of Motorola, Inc (NYSE: MOT), a world leader in the development and deployment of mission critical communications solutions, announced that over 1800 police users in Oslo are now live on the Norwegian national public safety TETRA network, Nødnett, using TETRA digital radio solutions delivered by Motorola in partnership with Nokia Siemens Networks.

Motorola has supplied the core TETRA digital radio communications infrastructure as well as the Motorola MTP850 TETRA terminals and MTM800E mobiles to be used in the new digital mission critical network, in association with main contract partner Nokia Siemens Networks. The network is based on Motorola’s Dimetra IP solution, delivering TETRA over an IP based network which offers a resilient, robust and reliable platform for seamless communication. Motorola’s technology and services also support the future development of the nationwide system, including the provision of higher data speeds to support the deployment of advanced mobile data solutions.

“We are delighted that the system in Oslo has gone live for the Police users”, says Manuel Torres, corporate vice president and general manager, Enterprise Mobility Solutions, EMEA. “The transition from analogue to digital communications in the new TETRA network will ensure a greatly improved user experience and significantly more secure communications for police users.”

Motorola’s field-proven MTP850 model has been designed with the end user in mind, with an intuitive mobile phone style interface. It provides state-of-the-art technology solutions such as a built-in GPS-receiver to accurately locate personnel. Motorola’s rugged, intuitive products undergo a series of rigorous tests to ensure superior quality and reliability under the most extreme conditions.

During the last few months, over 1,800 Oslo police users have undergone training in the new equipment connecting them to the TETRA mission critical network.

Motorola is a TETRA technology supplier to the turn key provider Nokia Siemens Networks, who is rolling out and implementing the Nødnett network. Nødnett is the multi agency digital radio communication system, owned by a separate administration body, Direktoratet for Nødkommunikasjon, under the Ministry of Justice and the Police.

The Motorola TETRA portfolio includes infrastructure solutions, terminals, applications and services which are now used in more than 90 countries worldwide. The rugged, intuitively operated products from Motorola undergo extensive tests during the development phase in order to ensure high quality and reliable handling even under extreme conditions.
