DOCOMO Launches 1GOAL Mobile Campaign

Tuesday, April 20, 2010

TOKYO, JAPAN --- NTT DOCOMO, INC. announced the start of its 1GOAL Mobile Campaign to let mobile users express their support for 1GOAL: Education for All, a global initiative to promote universal primary school education for children. The campaign lasts until June 11.

Mobile users can demonstrate their support for 1GOAL by simply visiting the campaign site on DOCOMO's i-mode™ service at http://1goal.nttdocomo.co.jp/i (Japanese only).

1GOAL, a global initiative organized by the non-governmental organization Global Campaign for Education, aims to ensure that by 2015 every child worldwide will be able to fully complete primary schooling, one of the Millennium Development Goals adopted by the U.N. Millennium Summit in 2000. It is supported by the United Nations, the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), football stars and other celebrities, world leaders and countless other people around the world.

The GSM Association (GSMA), the world's biggest association of mobile operators and other companies in the broader mobile ecosystem, announced its support for 1GOAL in February 2010. DOCOMO and 18 other GSMA members will conduct 1GOAL promotional campaigns in their respective markets from April to June, after which GSMA will tabulate the support that users communicate through various mobile response mechanisms. The data will be submitted to the U.N. in September to demonstrate to global leaders and the U.N. that universal education is a universal demand.
