Handset component makers post strong revenue gains in March

Most Taiwan-based handset component makers have posted strong revenue gains in March. Silitech Technology, Merry Electronics and Ichia Technologies recorded consolidated revenues of NT$1.09 billion (US$34.41 million), NT$715 million and NT$657 million, respectively, in March, increasing 36%, 46.65% and 48.64% from a year earlier.

Silitech also posted revenues of NT$2.87 billion for first-quarter, up 43% on year. The company expects revenues to grow 10-15% sequentially in the second quarter due to orders from RIM (Research in Motion) and Nokia.

Ichia posted revenues of NT$1.631 billion for the first quarter, declining 17.5% from the previous quarter. Ichia had originally predicted a sequential decline of 10-15%.

Merry saw its revenues grow 50% on year to NT$1.772 billion in the first quarter, according to company data. Thanks to orders from Nokia, the company is expected to generate revenues of NT$2.1-2.3 billion in the second quarter, according to an estimate of industry sources.
