HTC announces optimistic 2Q10 guidance

Thursday, April 29, 2010

Smartphone maker HTC projects second-quarter shipments to reach 4.5 million units, up 36% sequentially, and first-half shipments should rise by 40% on year to 7.8 million units. The Taiwan-based company expects record revenues of NT$50 billion (US$1.59 billion) in the second quarter.

Second-quarter gross margin should come in at 29.5-30.5%, down slightly from the first quarter's 30.3%.

First-quarter revenues of NT$37.7 billion exceeded expectations, and shipments in the period jumped 37% on year to 3.3 million units. The company credited its strong results from continual strong sales in the US and demand recovery in Europe and Asia.

ASP (average selling price) in the first quarter was US$339, compared with US$348 in the previous quarter.
