Wednesday, June 23, 2010

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Huntington Bancshares has hired Todd Beekman, formerly of Fidelity Management & Research Company, as assistant director of investor relations.

He will report to Jay Gould, Huntington's senior vice president and director of investor relations, who was recently named as one of the best investor relations directors in the country by Institutional Investor magazine's "U.S. Investor Relations" rankings for mid-cap banks.

"We are very excited about Todd joining Huntington's investor relations team," said Don Kimble, senior executive vice president and chief financial officer. "His five years as an equity analyst at Fidelity Management and Research, including two as its regional bank analyst, adds a wealth of hands-on experience regarding how investors view and make stock selection decisions. Huntington's turnaround story is an exciting one. Todd's insights will help us make certain this message will resonate well with existing and potential investors."

"Todd's background is also especially valuable given the rapidly evolving capital markets, stock exchanges, and equity trading strategies," Kimble added. "Hiring someone of his caliber is consistent with our desire to provide investors the highest level of access and transparency with regard to Huntington's performance and prospects."

At Fidelity, Beekman served as an international small cap equity analyst charged with targeting investment opportunities within the financial sector in Europe, Australasia, and the Far East. As a Fidelity domestic analyst, he concentrated on bank stocks.

Prior to joining Fidelity, he was a technical marketing manager for Freescale Semiconductors Inc., formerly Motorola. He also worked there as a strategic marketing consultant and engineer.

"I am delighted to join a company whose management team, turnaround, and growth story I have admired from afar," said Beekman. "The bank's leadership team is emerging as one that has developed the strategies that I believe can drive long-term returns for shareholders. I am excited about being part of the team."

Beekman earned a master's in business administration from Georgetown University with a concentration in finance and strategy. His bachelor's is from Ohio University in electrical engineering.
