AT&T Wins Frost & Sullivan 2009 Market Leadership Award in Wavelength Services

Tuesday, February 2, 2010

AT&T Wins with Impressive Product Portfolio, Spanning Both Wholesale and Retail, Metro and Long Haul Segments, and Broad Ethernet Products.

AT&T* announced that it has been awarded the Frost & Sullivan 2009 Market Leadership Award in Wavelength Services, North America. The award recognizes AT&T for its unmatched network footprint, broad portfolio of offerings and strong service level agreements (SLAs) in the wavelength services market.

According to Frost & Sullivan, wavelength services revenues for the year 2008 totaled approximately $1.3 Billion and are expected to grow to approximately $2 Billion. Ethernet over Wave products are seeing a surge in demand both in the wholesale and retail space. Demand for high speed bandwidth across verticals is driving spending on high-speed wavelength services, the report said.

“AT&T, with its comprehensive suite of wavelength services offering, is well geared to tap the full potential of this market” said Linda Stadtmueller, Senior Research Analyst, Frost & Sullivan. “AT&T currently has an impressive product portfolio spanning both wholesale and retail, metro and long haul segments, and several product choices for Ethernet.”

AT&T Wave services are available in bandwidths up to 10Gbps and can support nearly any type of application or protocol. Customers choose Wave or Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) for its versatility and the ability to move all traffic onto one easy-to-manage connection both locally and over long distances.

AT&T’s broad range of Wave services include rings such as Ultravailable® Network Service (UVN and UV2), a fully managed, custom solution for interconnecting data centers, carrier hotels, ILEC/CLEC facilities, or business sites in a highly reliable and secure metropolitan area network (MAN) environment. UVN offers fully managed customized solutions, maximum flexibility in bandwidth design and affords customers a highly available, private, highly-secure and flexible infrastructure (DWDM, SONET, Ethernet) that can accommodate multiple applications and protocols. AT&T also expanded its wavelength services offering with local and long distance point-to-point services that have options for protection and diversity, which is important for mission critical applications and gives customers more control and convenience.

The Frost & Sullivan award for Market Share Leadership is presented to the company that has demonstrated excellence within its industry. The award recognizes the company's leadership position within the industry in terms of revenues or units.
