Tuesday, February 2, 2010

Manufacturer's online store confirms launch date of flagship handset.

Sony Ericsson will launch its flagship Xperia X10 smartphone on March 1, according to the manufacturer's online store staff.

Online sales staff told Mobile the smartphone will be available from Sony Ericsson's online shop on March 1.

A Sony Ericsson online salesman said the online store will stock the X10 exclusively for the first week of March before it is goes on sale through other channels.

Mobile understands Vodafone has cut a deal with Sony Ericsson to stock the handset.

However a Sony Ericsson spokesman insisted: 'No date has been confirmed yet. All we have said is it will be launched in Quarter One.'

Sony Ericsson is pinning its hopes on the X10, after a series of disastrous handset launches last year which saw the Satio, Aino and the X2 blighted with software problems.

Vodafone’s vote of confidence in the X10 is significant, since the operator aborted its launch of Sony Ericsson’s Xperia X2 in December after it suffered software problems.

The X10 is powered by the new Android operating system with 1 gigabyte of internal memory and a superfast 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. The touch screen provides quick access to social media services and contacts via a graphical user interface.

It is the first Android phone to feature an 8 megapixel camera, fitted with smile detection, touch focus and Send to Web.

The X10 also features a variety of social media applications such as Mediascape and Timescale, allowing users to manage all of your communications in one place, browse conversations, check out tweets on Twitter or photos, emails and texts.
