MyDailyApp highlights – Ovi Maps Racing, Nimbuzz and Clipiti

Tuesday, February 16, 2010

GLOBAL - So Valentine’s Day has been and gone. But while Cupid’s arrows find their target just one day a year, MyDailyApp never fails to hit the mark with a new Nokia-flavoured app for you to fall in love with every day.

And while the last week certainly saw one or two Valentine’s-themed apps getting some exposure, we’ve instead chosen to focus on three apps this week with more enduring appeal – and thankfully, it’s not a difficult task.

We highlighted Ovi Maps Racing last week as it’s had hundreds of thousands of downloads since it was released at the start of the month. The basic proposition – top-down 2D racing, online or offline, on any number of tracks and with a choice of cars – is the kind of quick ‘n’ dirty gaming fun mobiles are made for.

But the best part of all is the ability to create tracks based on real maps – hence the title. So not only can you take on friend and foe in fast-paced driving fun on your favourite Nokia, you can do it on your very own street!

To top it all off, Ovi Maps Racing is yours to download absolutely free (limited time offer, so hurry), and works on all Symbian S60 5th Edition Nokias.

Our second choice this week is Nimbuzz, a twinkle-toed social networking add-on that has already found favour with over 1 million Ovi users. So what’s the big appeal? It’s all about instant messaging. And VoIP. And Twitter. Oh, and Facebook too.

In fact, let’s just say that if you’ve been looking for a single interface to handle pretty much all your social contacts while you’re out and about, you’ve found it in Nimbuzz. Have a look at this video for more:

Nimbuzz is hard not to like, especially when it’s a free download. All you need is an internet-capable S60 3rd or 5th Edition Nokia, and you’re away.

Our final choice this week is Clipiti – one for the video enthusiasts out there. This handy app lets you set up subscriptions and favourites from YouTube and the like in a single interface, and then quietly gets on with downloading the clips in the background ready for you to watch.

The result is your own on-demand video channel containing only the clips you’re interested in that you can watch anytime you like. Once you’ve set up your preferences it will even scout around for additional clips you might be interested in.

Clipiti costs $2.99 / £3 to download from Ovi Store – just make sure your data plan can handle all those video downloads first.
