MediaTek has delivered samples of its Android-based 3G chipset solutions for design-in to its clients with plans to begin volume production of the chipsets in the fourth quarter of 2010, the Chinese-language Commercial Times has quoted the chipset maker as indicating.

The availability of MediaTek's 3G chipsets is likely to drive retail prices of smartphones to below US$100 in the first half of 2011, the paper said.
