Pegatron reportedly to undertake OEM production of next-generation iPhone

Wednesday, February 3, 2010

Pegatron Technology has reportedly landed a contract to undertake OEM production of the next-generation iPhone scheduled for launch later in the year, joining Foxconn Electronics which manufactures current iPhones for Apple, according to industry sources.

In addition, Pegatron has also landed handset orders from various telecom carriers, the sources added.

Pegatron declined to comment, although it stated in previous reports that it expects its shipments of handsets to grow substantially in 2010.

Pegatron began to venture into the OEM LCD TV and handset businesses more than a year ago aiming to reduce its reliance on OEM PC manufacturing. The company has estimated its shipments of LCD TVs to top one million units in 2010.

Additionally, Pegatron has also settled a deal with Microsoft to produce its Natal Xbox 360 controller later in 2010.
