Yoshimasa Miyake joins Symbian Foundation as Head of Japan

Tokyo and London - The Symbian Foundation announced that Yoshimasa Miyake has joined the Symbian Foundation as part of the Global Alliances team and will operate as Head of Japan from 1st February, 2010. He will manage the Japan office, based in Tokyo, and will be responsible for strategic relations and operations in Japan.

The Symbian Foundation Japan has been working with 23 Japanese member companies (as of 31 January, 2010) to release Symbian-based devices and to continue fostering Symbian’s market and its ecosystem in Japan. The Symbian Foundation is committed to success in Japan through promoting the availability and encouraging the adoption of the Symbian platform. Led by Yoshimasa Miyake, the Japan office will bolster the organization’s efforts to support the foundation members and build and engage with a strong mobile developer community.

Profile of Yoshimasa Miyake
Mr. Miyake joins the Symbian Foundation most recently from Lenovo Japan Ltd. He has a diverse background in the telecom industry as Head of Go-to-Market, North-East Asia, Nokia Inc., Vice President & Managing Director of DOCOMO i-mode Europe B.V. (The Netherlands), NTT DOCOMO, INC., Level 3 Communications, Japan and Mitsubishi Corporation.

The Symbian Foundation is an independent, non-profit organization whose mission is to enable an open ecosystem that collaborates to create the most complete and richest user experiences for mobile devices. Symbian maintains the code for an open source software platform based on Symbian OS and software assets contributed by Nokia, NTT DOCOMO, and Sony Ericsson, including the S60 and MOAP(S) user interfaces. Portions of the platform's source code have already been moved to open source, under the Eclipse Public License. By mid-2010 this process will be complete, making the platform code available to all for free.
