Wednesday, February 3, 2010

Taiwan-based CDMA operator Asia Pacific Broadband Telecom (APBT) has signed a strategic alliance with China-based handset maker Yulong Computer Telecommunication Scientific (Shenzhen), aiming to expand sales of CDMA handsets in the Taiwan market.

Yulong plans to launch 30 smartphones in 2010, eight of which will be available for sale in Taiwan through APBT, according to Guo Deying, chairman of Yulong, which sells handsets under its Coolpad brand.

As part of the cooperation plans, APBT and Yulong jointly launched a dual-mode smartphone, the Coolpad N900, in the Taiwan market on February 2.

Yulong expects its total shipments of handsets to double from the 2009 levels to six million units in 2010, Guo stated.

In other news, APBT expects its revenues to grow to NT$20.8 billion (US$648.78 million) in 2010 from NT$18.6 billion in 2009 and the number of its subscribers to expand to 2.719 million from 2.358 million, according to the company. The company also plans to set aside a total budget of NT$20.4 billion to roll out CDMA ED-DO infrastructure over the next six years.
