Unitech expects handset PCB orders to recover in March

Wednesday, February 24, 2010

Unitech Printed Circuit Board has seen order momentum of handset PCBs slow down for the first quarter but expects demand to recover in March. Additionally, the company said orders for solar cells will remain strong until August and has estimated revenues of at least NT$1 billion (US$31.18 million) will be contributed from the segment in 2010, compared to NT$400 million in 2009.

With clients transitioning to new handset models, Unitech now only sees an order visibility of 4-5 weeks for handset PCBs, and its Taiwan production lines are running at about 70% of their capacities, the company said. The company expects revenues in the second quarter to grow from the first with the recovery of handset PCB demand.

In the solar cell business, Unitech is running its 30MWp line at full capacity, generating monthly revenues of over NT$100 million. It plans to add a 50MWp line in first-half 2010 and begin production in the second half.
