AT&T (NYSE: T) Government Solutions, Inc., a business unit of AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T), has announced that it has achieved the International Organization for Standards (ISO) 9001:2008 certification.

ISO is the world’s leading developer of International Standards and the source of the ISO 9000, a family of standards for quality management systems. The ISO 9001:2008 certification recognizes organizations that can link business objectives with operating effectiveness.

In order to achieve the ISO 9001:2008 certification, AT&T Government Solutions, Inc. underwent an extensive review of its Quality Management System by independent auditor, Orion Registrar, Inc. This Quality Management System supports the four practice areas of AT&T Government Solutions, Inc.:

* Network Solutions
* Application Solutions
* Information Assurance
* Mission Support

In addition to ISO 9001:2008 certification, AT&T Government Solutions, Inc. has also achieved the Software Engineering Institute’s Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) Level 3 rating in all 21 process areas with respect to systems and software development, integrated process and product development, and supplier sourcing.

“The accreditation of ISO 9001:2008 is reflective of the commitment AT&T has made to our dynamic IT professional services capabilities and a recognition of our strong focus on customer satisfaction,” said John Klebonis, Vice President, AT&T Government Solutions, Inc. “ISO 9001:2008 certification, along with our proven track record of developing life-cycle IT solutions that help customers meet mission objectives, strategically positions AT&T to help the federal government enhance its capabilities to better serve its citizens.”

Companies that achieve ISO 9001:2008 certification have effectively implemented the following: documentation and records management, top management’s commitment to customers, establishment of clear policy, good planning and implementation, good resource management, efficient process control, and measurement and analysis.

CMMI is the de facto international standard for measuring an organization's capability to provide a process-based approach to the development of software, including software engineering and project management. CMMI is being used as a prerequisite and evaluation factor for many military and civilian government programs that have significant systems and software engineering projects.
