HTC April revenues hit record high

Friday, May 7, 2010

Smartphone maker HTC saw revenues increase 57.93% on year to a record high of NT$18.01 billion (US$571.9 million) for April 2010. Through the first four months of 2010, revenues reached NT$55.71 billion, up 29.57% from a year earlier.

With new smartphones launched in recent months and sales of previous models still strong, the Taiwan-based company should top its second-quarter revenue forecast of NT$50 billion with ease, market watchers said.

HTC has been very aggressive with new device introductions thus far this year, mainly to take advantage of launch schedule adjustments by competitors, industry sources said. However, with a slew of Android-based smartphones as well as offerings from Apple and RIM slated to flood the market in the second half, HTC should see more challenges in the coming months, the sources added.

HTC was the fourth largest smartphone maker worldwide in the first quarter with a 5.1% share of the market, up 1 percentage point from a year ago, according to research firm Canalys.
