HTC expects no inventory issues in 3Q10, says company CEO

Wednesday, May 5, 2010

In response to concerns about HTC's inventory in the third quarter, company CEO Peter Chou said that inventory level is healthy and will remain so into the third quarter. On the contrary, HTC is actually experiencing a modest short supply due to strong demand, but it should be a short-term issue, he added.

In the past month, the smartphone maker introduced two new devices, the Smart and Desire, in the Taiwan market via carrier Chunghwa Telecom.

The Smart is an entry-level smartphone that will also target emerging markets such as India, China and Southeast Asia, said Chou, adding that sales are projected to reach one million units in the next three to four months.

The Desire Android 2.1-based smartphone is HTC's top-of-the-line offering with sales expected to exceed those of the Hero, the company's hot seller from 2009, Chou claimed.
