Motorola solution designed for pedestal and street cabinet installations; enhances network capabilities and enables improved higher speed internet experiences.

COLOGNE, Germany – ANGA Cable – The Mobile Devices and Home business of Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) announced availability of the new MCN100 compact optical node, designed specifically for European cable operators looking to meet consumer demand for higher broadband speeds and additional high definition (HD) and streaming video services.

As consumers increasingly demand richer broadband and video experiences, cable operators are continually looking at ways to increase network capacity. The Motorola MCN100 provides an economical solution, extending fiber optics deeper into the cable operator networks to pedestal and street cabinet locations where form factor and speed of installation are key deployment considerations. Together with Motorola’s OmniStar GX2 optical broadband transmission platform, the MCN100 creates a strong portfolio of proven optical headend and node solutions that drive scalability and affordability into cable operator’s fiber deep network deployments.

The MCN100 was specifically designed to meet the needs of the existing European cable network and is equipped with a number of tailored features. The MCN100 includes network or mains powering for outside or in-building deployment; two high-level RF outputs and a splitter-enabled third output – saving crucial space in cabinets and pedestals – as well as full monitoring and management options.

Joe Cozzolino, senior vice president and general manager, Motorola Mobile Devices and Home, commented “The MCN100 strengthens Motorola's presence in Europe and demonstrates our continued commitment to the European hybrid fiber coax market. Our leadership in delivering the right fiber deep solutions is based on our systems expertise and understanding of cable operator and consumer needs. Today’s announcement highlights Motorola’s continued innovation and our commitment to providing the most advanced solutions for Europe’s evolving cable ecosystem.”

The MCN100 is part of Motorola’s comprehensive fiber deep solution set, working alongside Motorola’s Omnistar GX2 optical broadband transmission platform. The high-density GX2’s return path receiver provides a high-density and low-cost path solution – with up to 64 independent optical return paths in a four rack unit– helping operators achieve significant space and operational savings. GX2 transmitters, meanwhile, include a full range of 1550nm and 1310nm solutions, providing the right performance at the lowest cost for fiber deep links with minimal RF amplifier cascades.
