RotoView Tilt and Scroll Smartphone Patent Cited Over 100 Times

Wednesday, May 26, 2010

HOUSTON -- INNOVENTIONS, Inc. has announced that its RotoView® "tilt and scroll" display navigation for smartphones has now been cited as prior art by over 100 different US patents. Measuring the number of citations of a published patent is a vital indicator for establishing the importance of a strategic patent and indicates key innovative technologies.

"Only five percent of US patents receive more than 20 citations. With 101 citations, including citations from patents owned by major smartphone manufacturers, the RotoView patents have reached a major milestone," said Dr. David Feinstein, president of INNOVENTIONS. "It clearly shows that the 'tilt and scroll' view navigation we invented in the late 1990s is now materializing in the smartphone arena."

The citation analysis was based upon data from the US Patent Office web site as of May 21, 2010. (Results are available online at http://www.rotoview.com/rotoview_patent_citation_analysis.htm .) Major companies that cite RotoView as prior art in their patents include Apple Computer, Casio Computer, Fujitsu, Hewlett-Packard, Intel Corporation, LM Ericsson, Matsushita, Microsoft, Motorola, NEC, Nintendo, Nokia, Palm, Samsung, Seiko Epson, Sharp, Siemens Corp and Sony.

RotoView provides intuitive single-hand navigation for mobile devices like smartphones, allowing the user to simply tilt the device left-right or up-down to see beyond the virtual boundaries of the display. Under active development since the late 1990s, RotoView is available as a free iPhone app. RotoView demonstration apps will soon be available on other smartphone platforms, including Google Android.

"Our goal is the integration of RotoView into the core of all mobile operating systems, bringing fundamental single-hand view navigation capabilities to mobile devices such as smart phones and tablet PCs," said Dr. Feinstein. "As we continue our R&D efforts, we seek a major smartphone manufacturer that will either purchase our portfolio and technology or partner with us to achieve this goal."
