LONDON, England – There’s a certain football tournament kicking off in less than a week, but Nokia’s got its own contest up its sleeve in the shape of the Foreign Accent Cup. Reckon you can do a good French, Italian, British or Australian accent? Put your talents to the test by using Nokia’s Own Voice app to get involved. If you fancy yourself as a bit of an accent guru, join us after the jump to find out more.

We’re on the hunt for an accent aficionado. Using Nokia’s Own Voice app, we want you to submit your best accents in a bid to become Nokia’s Foreign Accent Cup Champion. First- up, a bit about the tool you’ll be using. Own Voice lets you record and share your own navigation instructions for Ovi Maps directly to you Nokia. Simply download the app to your device and as quickly as you can say “You have reached your destination”, you’ll have your own Voice Pack for navigation.

Doing this in your own accent is all well and good, but we’d like to stretch your vocal chords. Over the next week we’ll be calling on you to submit a voice pack in the style of any accent of your choosing. Whether it’s Australian-cum-New Zealand or Austrian-cum-German, we want to hear it.

Help is at hand: we’ve managed to nab the expertise of accent enthusiast Amy Walker. Each day we’ll be releasing a video of Amy giving you hints and tips on how to mimic the voices of the world.

Once you’ve looked at the videos, or if you’re feeling confident enough, head straight over to Own Voice to get cracking on creating your Voice Pack. On Friday we’ll be picking the top ten, and find out who is the Foreign Accent Cup Champion. The prize? Oodles of Nokia goodies and the knowledge that you’ve mastered the art of accents.

A bit of housekeeping, when you submit a voicepack make sure you include ‘Accentcup’ in the description and, then leave a note in the Conversations comments with your Twitter username, or alternatively send an email to foreignaccentcup@ovi.com, stating the name of the voicepack in the subject line. Bonza.

All done with the voice exercises? Scoot over to Own Voice. Also don’t forget, you can preview all the accents submitted and let us know what you think in the comments below. To get you going, here’s Amy with an introduction to the competition. Let the games begin.
