Samsung ships 64 million handsets in 1Q10

Friday, April 30, 2010

Samsung electronics shipped 64 million handsets in the first quarter of 2010, up 40% on year but down 7% from the previous quarter mainly due to seasonal factors. First-quarter revenues of Samsung's mobile division rose 8% on year to 8.57 trillion won (US$7.68 billion) compared with 9.33 trillion won in the fourth quarter of 2009.

ASPs saw a slight increase on higher operating profit margin and lower marketing expenses.

The company credited the strong quarterly results to new mass market devices, global expansion of the smartphone industry and an enhanced 3G lineup among China-based carriers.
